After years of disappointing colorists at salons like Visible Changes, I decided to take a chance one day on a new colorist at Tony And Guy in the Galleria. I only picked the salon because I had used one of the company’s hair products for about 10 years. It was here that I met John Moler, who took one look at me and told me what color he saw for my hair based on my eye color and complexion. It was the same color I had before moving to Houston and the same color all the previous stylists here were afraid to give me. That was about 8 years ago and while John has moved around a bit in the Houston area, he now has his own salon. While I’m sure there are other colorists who would do as good a job out there, I like going to someone who is good at being able to «see» what colors would look best on me rather than someone who will do whatever I want no matter how poorly it may come off. While he is more of a colorist, he does cut hair as well. His prices are reasonable compared to other salons and he sometimes does services for free that others might charge for. And if you want a new colorist but not a new stylist? That is fine with him too. Just make sure you bring cash or a checkbook since he doesn’t handle credit cards currently.
