Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston, Inc.

I love what this organization stands for but I have some serious reservations about the way they do business. They are in desperate need of fosters and having just lost our 15 year old schnauzer, we filled out an application to foster. Received a call this morning that they LOVE us, our vet recommended us, and feel we’d be great but because our 3 year old schnauzer is not fixed the foster coordinator feels he «could be aggressive» so we can’t foster. I volunteered to take my 3 year old to a meet up so they could see that’s not the case and mentioned that we have plans to neuter him but given we just lost our 15 year old, I was nervous about any surgery right now. Nope. They didn’t care, but once we get our dog fixed they’d LOVE to have us foster «one or even two» dogs. Nowhere on the site or foster application does it mention this requirement. Our vet, groomer, folks at the dog park and doggie day care providers or even just meeting the dog could all vouch that he’s not an aggressive dog at all.
This has soured our opinion of the organization, it shouldn’t be that hard to want to help animals in need.

I have an interest in adopting a small dog. I had a good experience previously with schnauzers so I contact MSRH and got a response from Linda Love (yes that is really her name) of MSRH. After I completed the paperwork in anticipation of a home visit, Linda Love sends me an email explaining that because I live in an apartment instead of a single family home I would not be able to adopt a dog from them. I was astonished by her comment because my building is full of pet owners and many apartment and condo owners everywhere have pets. I don’t know if the rest of the organization is a crazy as this woman but if so STAY AWAY! It’s unfortunate that this out of touch woman is going to deprive some animals of decent homes.

I began searching for this site when my significant other and I continued to have conversations about our miniature schnauzer Simon, who has such a good life. Simon has been raised with love, endless petting, toys, playtime and run of the house. So I began searching the internet for anything miniature schnauzer. I did not know this act would lead us to making space for a second pet and finding the Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston.
I scanned the site daily for adoption stories and pups looking for homes. This is when we ran across Kiefer’s story. At 6 months Kiefer was abused, underwent treatment, surrendered and living with a foster family. All Kiefer needed was love and we instantly fell in love with him. We filled out the online application and received a call within the hour. She explained the steps to becoming Kiefer’s forever family and called our vet for a reference. The rescue was very helpful, professional and quickly answered any questions we had. We met the foster family and Kiefy later that week and the rest of the story is being written.
About the Rescue:
MSRH is operated by caring and loving volunteers. They have a meet and greet the first Saturday of every month. I have not built up the nerve to go, because I would want to adopt all those precious babies. I continue to keep track of puppies looking for homes and their happy adoption stories.
