This was my first visit to this salon. To start off this review the name of this salon is pronounced Michelle. What brought me into this salon was this gift certificate that I won in a silent auction. The certificate included cut, style and full head highlights, make-up application and a signed book of 37 sexy make overs(something like that) a great value of $ 270 with a well renowned stylist named Michael DeMarse. FYI he schedules his own appointment not the salon so you have to reach him on his own phone line. I got an appointment relatively fast compared to my other stylist who was and is always booked. Michael was pleasant in phone and throughout appointment. He stated he likes to run on schedule. My reply to that is great because I run early. I got there 10 minutes till my schedule appointment and ha to wait 15 minutes. At first glance the salon’s stylists are all seasoned(not young) and primary males. I’ve only had my hair cut 2 times by a male stylist. First time was terrible and this time so needless to say I was nervous. It seems to be that this salon is all independent stylists doing their own thing as mini salons inside of this establishments. I saw women blow drying their own hair?! Like what F! For the first half of the appointment Michael had me listen to ALL of his music that he made and available for purchase. It wasn’t bad but I did not like that he imposed me listening to ALL of the music without even asking if I would like to hear another. He seem very knowledgeable and full of himself(not in a pompous way). He has his own way of doing hair starting from the color technique of highlights using plastic wrap and cotton. I’ve been getting my hair done for SEVERAL years and this is a first. I liked it! However the time for the color left on seemed rather quick… too quick. I did get to look at a color swatch to pick my color he just mixed it up there. I didn’t like that. The cut was fast and I’m bias to hair products so I don’t like the products used. Not his fault just me being a loyal AVEDA user. Then he asked«did I want the make-up application?» Uh ya why wouldn’t it. Big mistake next he started taking about who he did make up for and name dropping. Blah blah blah. The make-up applying was too quick and I hated it! Not me as soon as I left I went to my car and took it off and applied my own make-up. I doubt I will return. It wasn’t a bad experience but it was just not my cup of tea. The salon is located in a shopping strip that used to be the home of the ROXY night club in the Galleria area.

Writing a review is based on a customer’s personal experience. As a former business owner, it is important to hear what your clients think so you can get better ! It’s not personal, it’s business. My comments were based on my experience at Michel’s the last couple of visits since the changing of the guard so to speak. New management. Hopefully, the new owner will take my comments and turn the lemons into lemonade as a professional should. Calling a customer names for having an opinion is unprofessional. You should respond by thanking me for my opinion and that you will do your best to make things better. That’s what I expected to hear… not ugly words.

I use to love coming to Michelle for color for my hair. Michelle is the best color ever in the whole wide world #! BUT the new owner is now bringing in little old ladies with white hair The shop is empty and depressing. …only a few stylists left who cater to the elderly. the shop is right if you are 70 and older!!!

I have had several appointments with Olivier(the owner) and he does a fabulous job. I love the way my long hair looks every time I walk out the door. This place is so comfortable and friendly. The staff are kind and helpful. Just relaxing. And full service too!

I got my hair cut at Studio 3 and they were unable to give me the look I wanted. I came to Michel based on a suggestion from a friend. I am so happy I did, he was able to give me the exact style I wanted with beautiful layers and was able to keep what was left of my length after the studio 3 butcher. $ 80 is pricey for me for a haircut but the volume he was able to add to my fine hair is worth it!!!

Ask for Michel Sellouk. He is the best! He takes care of me all the time… and I’m pretty fickle with my hair styles. :) Even though his specialty is womens hair he still does an excellant job on men. Been going to him for the past 3 years.
