The Mecom Fountain gets all the love, but the Colonnade is the hidden gem.

The colonnade is one of those things in Houston that people pass by all the time but don’t really take a moment to appreciate. It is an interesting part of Houston history but we would never know it because there are no signs or labels of even its name. A little research had to be done to find it’s significance. From 1922, the greco-roman columns graced the original Miller Outdoor Theatre. They were salvaged 1968 when the theatre was being redesigned and reformed in the Mecom-Rockwell Colonnade. In the center of the colonnade is a fountain. There is really nothing else to see on it’s little section of grass sectioned off by Hermann, Fannin and San Jacinto. The best place to park for your stop off here is next to the Bloch Cancer Survivors Plaza across the street.
