So yeah this place exceeded my expectations. From the valet to the staff to the food and the owner. Yeah great experience. Shook hands with the owner. Fish was great i had the salmon my gf had the duck. Timely manner and waiter was extremely kind. Yeah I couldn’t nit pick anything from our visit. As soon as we walked in over 8 people greeted us. Never had that type of hospitality in a restaurant in a long while. Will be returning again for sure. 5 stars? Yeah I think so. The krab cake is great starter.

This is probably my fourth visit to Masraff’s — I’m in Houston for business fairly regularly and I try to make a visit every time I’m in town. However, I feel the need to write an updated review after my experience with my visit this week. As always, the atmosphere at Masraff’s is luxurious and upscale, and the holistic dining experience is great — the wait staff are attentive and I consider it a great experience. In this instance, unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the food. Historically I’ve loved their mushroom ravioli and this time I saw that it was replaced with a new rock shrimp ravioli with a vinaigrette. I figured I’d give it a shot. Unfortunately all of the wonderful things about the ravioli at Masraff’s I used to love weren’t present in this dish — maybe it was a conscious stylistic choice, but instead of a hand-made ravioli wrapper, the wrappers that they chose to use literally tasted, felt, and looked like store-bought wonton wrappers. They were chewy, tough, and bland. Additionally the combinations that were used in this new shrimp ravioli dish I thought didn’t really work as well.(That flavour palette is more of a personal preference though, so I wouldn’t hold it against them). My main course was unfortunately where the trouble really started. I had the special. which was a type of pan fried fish with scallops, saffron potato, and broccolini. The«saffron potato» was nothing more than a slice of boiled potato tinged slightly yellow with no flavour and slightly undercooked. The broccolini, rather than being crisp, green, and fresh, had stalks that were tough, stringy, and I couldn’t even cut it with the knife. The Fish — it was served to me raw. It wasn’t even cooked. While I’m a huge fan of sashimi style raw fish, when a pan fried fish is served to me raw on the inside, there are significant issues somewhere in the kitchen. I hate sending things back at restaurants, but when its raw I have no choice — I ended up feeling pretty turned off to fish and went with the duck instead, which wasn’t terrible. I did have dessert — the warm bread pudding — which was unremarkable. While I did appreciate the attentiveness of the waiter and manager in getting me a different entrée, I felt that they didn’t take the seriousness of serving someone something that was raw as seriously as I’d have liked. My primary concern would be to communicate that this sort of thing should never happen again — I’m not sure they took that message serious enough. I’m amending my updated review with 3 stars — had this been a standalone experience I would have gone with 2 stars, but because of my previous 4⁄5 star experiences here, I’m choosing to give the benefit of the doubt. I will definitely visit again to have the opportunity to once again be blown away by the food at this restaurant, but if I have another poor experience, I doubt I will be as understanding.

This family owned and run place knocks it out of the park every time. I recently held a 30 person dinner event at Masraff’s . Every persons dietary needs were met, with a can do attitude. There were 3 people with special meal request, for items not on the menu. No problem. Every was made fresh and to order. Even the salads were a hit. I had the duck it was awesome.

It was my first time at Masraff’s. Amazing amazing amazing restaurant. Our servers were well informed and had great personalities. I had the daily special salmon with mushroom risotto. It had a little sweet citrus taste to it that made it phenomenal. The owner of the restaurant, Tony Masraff came out and introduced himself and asked is how our evening was. Great guy with a great character. He personally served us all the options on the dessert menu. All of them were delicious, couldn’t choose a favorite. I would definitely recommend to anyone and return again.

Came here for dinner with two friends. Shared 3 appetizers: Foie gras, calamari, and crab cake. Foie gras and calamari were both exceptional. Crab cake was good, but not in the same league as the other two. For my entrée, I had the rack of lamb — excellent. My friends had the filet and the pork chop. All agreed our entrees were first rate. I called the chop a «slab» as it was enormous. Service was excellent. Wines were very good, but not phenomenal. Parking was not difficult. Highly recommend this place for a special occasion. Worth every penny. Hope to come back one day when I visit Houston.

Good was fantastic! I had the red snapper with orzo pasta and it was beautifully cooked and all the components made sense and sang well with each other. My wife had the vegetarian option which was veggies in a baked dough with mashed potatoes. Good stuff. I found the servers to be plentiful but not necessarily attentive. We waited a vey long time to get the menu and they forgot my wife’s sauces on the side until almost the end of her meal. They were super nice and friendly but I still have to dock 1 star just for that. I normally don’t and I’m a very laid back diner but this was a bit much.

This is my fourth visit to Masraff’s. Each time has been a delightful experience. The service is absolutely top tier and the food is exquisite! They have a huge wine list in all price ranges. I can highly recommend the risotto for an appetizer and the scallops for the main course. My husband loved the calamari(tender and not fried) appetizer and tuna entrée. The entire waitstaff works really hard to please. This is one of our very favorite restaurants! Linda F.

The food was amazing but the service could have been better. They got one of our orders wrong, and by the time my food came everyone else was almost done. Normally a fine dining restaurant like this would apologize and offer something like a complimentary dessert, but we got nothing, so that was disappointing for such a nice and expensive place. There were also 2 waiters(one training?) taking our orders, but I guess the trainee offered to insight to the mistake. The food was awesome no complaints about that. Man if they were nicer about their mistake and offered my dessert for free I would have totally given them 5 stars.

I probably go a couple of times a year and recently for a friend’s birthday. We had a group of 16 people and had a great time. Food and drinks were excellent and no complaints. I ordered the lamb chops and they are the BEST I’ve had in or out of town. Overall food was on par with many good, upscale restaurants, service was exceptional and atmosphere is top notch. Always a good experience and one of my favorite upscale restaurants in Houston.

Masraffs is like my secret retreat. I am able to walk in with a suit or in everyday clothing, I am constantly greeted with a smile as well as a friendly salutation. The food and service are impeccable. Every dish has a little flare which makes it stick out from other eateries.

Better late than never for a review! Haha yet I cannot forget about this place as I’ve came to Masraff’s for the first time during HRW2015 season. Just like the few other hundreds of reviewers, I cannot disagree with its high ratings as I can probably say it’s one of the best restaurant I’ve been to. Valet parking available. Elegant and a pleasant setting. MUSTGET Garlic-seared Calamari appetizer, amazing. Also the Watermelon Shrimp Ceviche & the Lamb chops are definitely recommended.

We were a group of four and we came here Saturday night the night before valentines day. We made reservations about a month in advance because we knew valentines day was going to be crazy. We looked at their menu and they had a lot of stuff that looks good but the day before we got a call saying that there will be a set charge per person and we were forced to order off the Valentines day menu, which didn’t have everything we wanted to start with and if we ordered those things separately from the regular menu it would have been cheaper but oh well what can we do? Price is not an issue it’s just the principle that counts. Lastly, our table was the only table that didn’t get roses, since they were handing them out to everybody(ladies). The food: The Garlic seared calamari was amazing! Different that what I’ve ever had and I think it just became the best I’ve ever had. Baked jumbo crab cakes, they were good, but about average. Nothing special Australian rack of lamb, was good, didn’t taste like lamb so I’m a little bias on this because what’s the point of ordering lamb if it tastes like beef. Pan seared red snapper, was delightful. I really enjoyed it. The flavor was amazing. House cured pork chops, these were probably the worst thing we ordered that night, they were super dry and chewy. I would not recommend these. The desert: You have to try the apple bread pudding. It is amazing! Best one yet! Overall, I would probably give it another try maybe not on a national holiday.

Expensive, but delicious. I opened the menu and the first thing that jumped out at me was the $ 150/ounce caviar starter. Gulp! I then looked around and I was the only male in the room that dared to not have a tie on. Oops! Where, in Austin, my blazer and slacks sans tie would stand out as being over the top, here it stood out for the opposite reason. Having said that, my server gave me the same great service he provided to the tie-sporting fish egg eaters. Most of the dishes on the menu ranged from $ 20 – 50 and I have no doubt they all tasted as good as they looked going by. My $ 17 wild mushroom hand-made ravioli was also fantastic and filling. I also opted for a post meal cup of coffee and could taste the French pressed origins of it from the first sip. Yum! My lunch partner(who knowingly showed up in a snappy tie) had a shrimp ravioli and followed it up with an amazing looking chocolate dessert swimming in a crème brûlée sauce. He practically licked the plate clean, so I think he liked it. If you want to splurge or impress, stop in and enjoy, you won’t be disappointed.

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Houston! Every time I’ve dined at Masraffs, the experience has been perfect. This was my first upscale restaurant experience in Houston and it really made an impression on me that keep me coming back. It’s highly recommended to make reservations at this restaurant(you can do this via opentable). It’s located in a strip mall, which is kind of odd, but this doesn’t take away from the experience. They have both self and valet parking. They seat you immediately when you have a reservation, which is nice, I’ve never had to wait for them ‘get the table together’, they’re always prepared. Most of the patrons here are dressed up business casual, so its best to do the same. Masraffs changes their menu often, so it’s always something different. Their bread basket is delicious, they serve a mixed variety of bread, usually a nut and berry along with sourdough, and a savory bread. I have enjoyed their mushroom ravioli, that is made fresh in the kitchen, served with a velvety cream sauce. As for their entrees, I always order some type of scallops. They are always cooked perfectly and have wonderful flavor, I’ve had them with tuna, with a corn chowder, with a polenta, they are always good! If you even like scallops a little bit, order them! My husband usually orders the steak, which he always enjoys. What’s nice about their steaks is you do not have to order separate sides, the dish comes plated with sides. The Chocolate fondant is your classic lava cake, served with ice cream, always a safe choice. During restaurant week they also featured a dessert with mango mousse, which was also delicious. You won’t be disappointed here, no matter what you order.

The gumbo is spicy and flavorful. But the shrimps were there for a while. They taste mushy and borderline grainy. I prefer tender and juicy shrimp. The seabass is too complicated. The dish came with risotto, pea, mushroom, truffle, crab meat, carrott and micro green. The risotto taste good, but I bet it was drenched with butter. The bass itself is not flaky or tender either. Way too complicated. I like one of their free bread. That was pretty good. The waitress is OK and everyone seems friendly. But a few people were carrying big black boxes walking around and one is carrying a broom around, not something I expect.

I must say Masraff’s has exceeded my expectations. Hands down this place has the best food I’ve had. I came here to celebrate my bff’s and my anniversary. It had been 6 years so I thought I will take my girlfriend out to a nice dinner! After all she’s put up with me for 6 long years, she deserves something special. She was shocked when she walked in. She thought it was absolutely stunning. Walking in, it’s nice and dim. Colorful lighting on the ceiling. There are special reserved private seating for two I saw walking in. I’m definitely going to reserve that next time. I just had the norm reservations. When seated, you look up and there is this beautiful fire presentation middle of the restaurant. Amazing views looking outside as well. I must get to the food. They serve only is non-pitted kalamata and green olives with three kinds of breads with butter. I must say, when the bread is nice and warm, it is spectacular. Even though I don’t like non-pitted, I enjoyed the olives here. Especially my bff, she’s 7 months pregnant, so you can imagine the level of expectations she has. For the entrée, I ordered a rack of lamb, medium. It was double cut lamb. Let me tell you it was the most tender, juiciest lamb I’ve ever had. Hands down the best lamb ever. I cannot express anymore. If you want to take someone to a romantics dinner, I recommend this place. I absolutely am loving the atmosphere. In the introductory video, they mention that one of the owners are always here, and one of them were, on a Thursday night. I really wanted to come up to him and thank him for this place. It’s everything I want in a nice dinner. Bravo Masraff’s! Customer for life.

Excellent food, attentive staff, great location! I decided to check out this place when I landed in Houston and made a reservation on OpenTable before heading there. I had a difficult time finding a popular and highly rated place in Houston on Unilocal. This was pretty much my only option. As usual, I was in my comfy sweats for flying, a bit awkward as expected, but they gave me a table anyway after I refused to sit at the bar. I ordered Jumbo Lump Crab Cake appetizer, Alaskan Wild King Salmon entrée, and Warm Granny Smith Apple Bread Pudding, with a pot of green tea and complimentary bread and olives. It was a fulfilling meal. As a foodie from NYC, I absolutely didn’t expect to be amazed, but everything was great there for sure. The crab cake didn’t disappoint. I liked how the waiter put the accompanying red wine reduction sauce on the side after I told him I cannot drink. I did ask for«well done» salmon, so it was on the dry side, but good portion with an excellent array of vegetables, colorful and appetizing. I don’t normally get bread pudding, but decided to try it on a whim. I loved that it isn’t overly sweet and the vanilla ice cream isn’t a huge scoop, so it was perfect portion for myself. The staff definitely work quite well as a team. A waitress not for my table walked by and saw that my tea pot was almost empty and asked whether I would like more hot water in it, and took it away for refilling when I said yes. In addition, a dressed up gentleman who walks around the restaurant and seems to be the manager came over to check on me a couple times and he was super nice. I just realized he is actually the owner of the restaurant when I was about to write this review and saw a video of him on Unilocal. My couple minor complaints are: 1) The crab cake appetizer seems to be priced higher($ 19) for the portion and complexity. I have had crab cake appetizers at places like Chart House, Morton’s Steakhouse, Atlantic Fish, etc. A small crab cake appetizer is at most $ 16 in NYC or Boston. Chart House also has put in a lot of work to create a much bigger sized stack of crab + mongo + guac appetizer that costs only $ 16. Not sure how Masraff justifies the price, maybe for the red wine sauce, but it really wasn’t much. 2) I was hoping for at least an organic green tea bag in my tea pot, if not loose leaves, from such a nice restaurant, but it didn’t seem to be, just a regular tea bag immersed in a pot of hot water.

Just no. I do not understand the hype of this place at all. I made reservations for HRW(I thought the menu was impressive than others, but man was I wrong). There’s valet if you prefer. When I arrived, there was a wait to get a table and the entire place was packed. We finally got sat down and we were offered the menu. Since we’re ordering off the HRW, we got a look(I am seriously tired of this, if your restaurant isn’t good during HRW, why would I bother to come back?). Later on when I went to another restaurant who use to work at Masraff, I found out they recycle bread and rinse off the olives at the end of the night then serve it back to the new customers. Thank the lord I didn’t even touch the bread/olives due to the lack of service. Food: Garlic Seared Calamari — The Oystem mushroom with the sauce is good and I preferred eating just that. The calamari is fried nicely, but the sauce that was drenched made the breading soggy. Herb Roasted Rack of Australian Lamb — Lamb was overcooked over a bed of stuff… black stuff. I wasn’t sure what’s in there, but I didn’t think it was interesting or good. The broccolini was huge and buried with that black stuff. I just ate the lamb and called it a day. Mango Three Times — All those mangos were different types crème brûlée. Guys… I can’t even. Tip of the iceberg. Service. Our waiter wasn’t there half the time. I saw the guy that refills my water more than I saw our waiter. I wouldn’t waste my time going back again and I will not recommend coming to try either. I wouldn’t pay full price for any of the food I «ate».

Went on Saturday night and had a wonderful time! The ambiance is wonderful, mood lighting with colorful blocks on the ceiling and glass walls showing the kitchen line. There’s a patio with a small water cascade if the weather is nice too! We were seated in the main dining area and this was the first time at a fine dining restaurant where the temperature was perfect! Normally it’s too cold and I end up regretting not bringing a sweater. We began with a Zinfandel wine picked by their sommelier who was very attentive and helpful. The bread on the table had 3 varieties and was served with butter and unpitted olives. For the main course I ordered the Alaskan halibut. It was an adventure of flavors in that plate! A large portion of halibut on a bed of sweet potato, red onions, mushrooms and huckleberry sauce. The combination was amazing except I wish there wasn’t as much huckleberry. It filled the bottom of the plate and was quite tart since it had actual berries in it too. Otherwise, it would’ve been perfect! My boyfriend ordered the Berkshire pork chop, it was very tender and a large portion as well! It could have used some more flavor variation, it was mainly sweet potato purée and not Only poor comment: our server was not as friendly as some of the others. He did just enough for our orders but didn’t go above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We were celebrating a birthday but didn’t get the opportunity to mention it. The server at the table next to us was very engaging and I wish we could’ve had the same experience in service.

We came here to surprise my mom for her 50th birthday. As it was restaurant month, we were happy to find that this place still had reservations open for such a large group. However, my sister specifically asked that we reserve a table in the main dining area, but when we showed up at the restaurant, they had placed our table on their patio, which we didn’t really like. The patio is not very pretty at all. However, the food did make up for our seating arrangement. I had the watermelon ceviche, the filet, and key lime for dessert. Everything was great, except the filet was somewhat overcooked. The strange thing was that my uncle also ordered the filet, and also ordered his medium-rare, but his was UNDERcooked. The kitchen needs to work on their consistency in cooking meat. My mom ordered the scallop and ahi tuna for her entrée, and I liked that slightly better than my filet. The only negative to her dish was the carrots served on the side were strangely way too sweet, like they had been dipped in sugar water. I really enjoyed the key lime dessert! Tangy, not too sweet, and just the right size. It was topped with a delicious meringue. Overall, the service was nice, and Mr. Masraff even checked in with us to make sure we had a nice experience, so I still give this place 4 stars even though their food could us some improvements in some areas.

Located on Post Oak in a shopping area so there’s ton of parking which is a huge plus. They offer complimentary valet but there’s a ton of spots to park yourself as well! Interior of the restaurant is chic and nicely decorated, super bright and clean. The tables are well set and service is superb! Tony Masraff himself came by to thank us for dining at his restaurant and to welcome us and tell us he’s there if we need anything! Such hospitality!!! We came for HRW but couldn’t leave without also ordering the pan seared foie gras! It was our pre appetizer and it was buttery and melt in your mouth delicious! The flavors were a bit of a tart from the balsamic and pears, sweet from the sauce and buttery from the seared foie gras. Definitely unique and yummy! Comes on a bread on the bottom! For HRW we had the calamari — battered and came out in a large piece with a masala sauce and mushrooms on it. Very tender and flavorful! I also tried the watermelon shrimp ceviche with fried plantains, which was so fresh and delicious! The baby arugula salad with a goat cheese and grilled onions was also fantastic and creamy! Second course I ordered the Australia Lamb on broccolini with a side of potato mushroom cakes! The lamb was cooked to perfection and surprisingly not at all gamey tasting! I absolutely devoured it. Very great flavors. I tried the filet mignon, very buttery and well cooked on a bed of risotto. Great flavors as well. The chicken roulade was also good on a bed of wasabi mash potatoes. Very interesting but my least favorite out of the 3 dishes. Dessert we had the apple bread pudding — very dense but good flavors. The mango three way dessert. Tastes like a flan/pudding. And the mini donuts with cinnamon and sugar. This was also dense and not as soft and fluffy as I would like. Dessert was a little disappointing. Overall experience was wonderful. Great regular portion meals for HRW and the service was spectacular. Extra props for the owner making rounds to all his guests! Would recommend for a nice dinner!

4.5 stars. I want to give it a 5 but it didn’t have that wow factor. The one when you take a bite and your eyes just widen haha. But nonetheless it was extremely good. Went for the Houston restaurant week menu. I had a party of 11 and the best seating was under a well air conditioned patio. Very classy date like place. Now to start with the food, there were three types of bread, forgot what type they were but the bread with toasted parmesan on it has a little spice to it and it was hard to stop grabbing for more. I had the garlic seared calamari for the first course which was my favorite dish of the night. Great combination of light flavors. I had the scallop and seared tuna for my entrée. Tuna was phenomenal, but the scallops were not seared to my liking, it was still very flavorful though. The sweet mango relish at the bottom was a bit tiring. If they had cut it down in Half it would have been perfect. The chocolate fondant was… Well chocolate and ice cream always mix well. Pretty amazing place. Reccommend if you looking for nice seafood

When there are only compliments left to write, nothing makes me happier than leaving a good review. On some random weekday night, I decided to stumble in here for dinner and there was plenty of seating at the bar even around 7pm. First of all, I love being greeted with folks opening the door. Something exquisite about the whole concept, you just dont see it often nowadays. — SCALLOPSTOPPEDWITHROASTEDCARROTS are absolutely spectacular. Unfortunately I have not tried other dishes yet, but this is seriously good. Light on salt, full of flavor. Some of the best scallops I’ve ever tried. — BARAREAISMEH, BUTSERVICEISGREAT. I expected to find a bit of a nicer bar here, but oh well. The room was just not that nicely designed, but of course, we all know that design can be just a matter of opinion. — SERVICEWASGREAT. Holy moly. I had been to Masraff’s for Houston Restaurant Weeks before I was an active Unilocaler, and I thought it was pretty good. This experience, though — absolutely stellar and far beyond my expectations. I treated my family to dinner here, and Masraff’s graciously accommodated my request to sit away from the kitchen and restrooms(my mom is weird about that kind of thing). We sat in the wine room, which is wall-to-wall full of reds and whites. There is a sommelier on staff, but we decided to forego wine to indulge on the food. First off, the bread basket at Masraff’s is great. Specifically, the focaccia is extremely well-seasoned, and pair it with their butter, which tastes super fresh — my oh my, I can just eat the bread and butter(mostly the butter…) and be full. Nonetheless, I ordered the garlic seared calamari for my appetizer and the bison ribeye as my entrée. Um… give me a second to reminisce on how incredible my meal was that night… The calamari is unlike any other calamari I’ve had before — it’s almost *too* tender(my family couldn’t believe it was calamari), and the sauce is INSANELY addictive. My family told me to stop eating the sauce by itself. Yeah. I just couldn’t help myself. Regarding my entrée, my family couldn’t believe it was bison, either. How can wild game be as tender as a filet? I don’t know, but Masraff’s manages to do so in a sizable portion(~8 ounces), wrapped in bacon, served with asparagus and parmesan/truffle steak fries. Beautiful. Finally, a shared dessert: roasted pear topped with crème brûlée. Sweet, creamy, crunchy, this was the perfect way to finish our already-excellent dinner. Excuse me, I need to wipe the drool off my face after writing this review… I got the chance to taste my family’s dishes as well. Of particular note was my sister’s colossal chilled crab(lump crab galore) and my mom’s pan roasted halibut(quite tender, especially for a firm/dense fish). Service is fantastic. We had Bryan, and he actually helped us make decisions because everything on the menu sounded so good! Service definitely trails off the busier they get, but we had a relatively early dinner(6pm on Friday), so we practically had his undivided attention. Masraff’s cooks with a finesse that was able to please my entire family — a rare feat. Beautiful execution and flavor-packed dishes: without a doubt, Masraff’s has claimed the title of my favorite restaurant in Houston.

Masraff’s is a definite destination that I must go to when I spend time in the Houston area. I have fallen in love with Masraff’s from Houston Restaurant Week 2014. And I will continue to come back as long as the food at Masraff’s is excellent. On this trip, I decided to bring my boyfriend here for his 22nd birthday. Our evening started with two appetizers, the soup of the day and the chilled colossal crab. These two appetizers were very savory and very delicious. The soup of the day had very tender cuts of beef that my boyfriend highly enjoyed. My crab cake appetizer had fair amounts of crab within it. I would like to applaud the chefs for creating a horseradish aioli that did not overpower the taste of the crab. I thought the yellow tomato on the dish bottom added a nice compliment to the crab. I highly recommend the crab appetizer. For our entrees, my boyfriend had the rack of lamb and I had the duck trio. Both dishes were delicious. The lamb on my boyfriend’s dish was cooked perfectly to his liking. In fact, he stated that this restaurant had the best lamb that he’s ever had. I’m a huge fan of duck and I greatly appreciated the duck trio. All parts of the duck were cooked very well. I greatly enjoyed the foie gras portion of the dish. It was very smooth and buttery. The texture of the foie gras was perfect. Out of the two dishes, I would highly recommend the roasted rack of lamb. For dessert, my boyfriend was treated to the mini doughnut dessert by our waiter since we were celebrating his birthday. It was a very nice gesture on his part. In my opinion, the real highlight of the dessert dishes is the chocolate fondant dish. It is the perfect molten dessert. The chocolate is not overwhelmingly sweet. It is totally perfect in my opinion. The ice cream on top adds a nice vanilla cream flavor to balance the rich chocolate. I would suggest you definitely go with the chocolate fondant dessert if you are a fan of chocolate desserts. Also, I would like to thank Tony Masraff for visiting our table and checking in on us. I did come in a group of quite a few 20-something aged students. Not every restaurant gives young guests the attention that we deserve. I would like to thank Tony Masraff and his staff for being kind and serving us without discrimination. I truly appreciate it.
