My first Colombian food adventure and this place did not disappoint. Everything was tasty and fresh. The Mango shake with milk was perfect!

Our friend suggested we meet here for dinner and what a pleasant surprise to find another Colombian restaurant in our neck of the woods. It’s a small, quaint restaurant with outdoor seating; the only issue I had with sitting inside was that they did not have the A/C on cool, and it was humid. I had to ask the waitress to turn on the ceiling fans to get some air circulating in the room. Their menu had a simple selection of the main Colombian plates on one side — empanadas, arrepas, bandeja paisa, carne asada, and lengua en salsa — and a slew of juices and smoothies on the other. For a drink I highly recommend their homemade lemonade — absolutely delicious! Their empanadas are fresh, hot, and crunchy — just the way I like them. If you are a fan of chorizo and order the bandeja paisa, I suggest ordering an extra chorizo because they only give you a a small portion of one. it also has a spicy kick to it too. Their aji picante«hot sauce» is absolutely the best I have ever had. The only negative I could find about my experience is that the waitress who took our order does not speak English. I spoke to her a couple of times, and she referred over to my husband for translation.

This«restaurante Colombiano» is the real deal. It’s a cozy, family-owned restaurant on 249, located inside a small yellow house encircled by Colombian flags. Everything you will eat at La Sazon Colombiana is about as authentic as you will find in Houston, and I’ve been to most of the Colombian restaurants in the city. The rice and beans here are life changing! Only in Colombia can such a humble pairing as rice and beans taste like something you’d pay big bucks for… but La Sazon Colombiana — here in Houston — gets it right! Like another reviewer said, the beans taste like Colombian beans. La Bandeja Paisa is perfect if you want to sample a bit of everything and desire to try the national dish of Colombia. You will get a big platter of rice and beans, chicharron, chorizo, steak, avocado, plantain, a fried egg, and an arepa. It’s a delicious, filling conglomeration of food. If you’re not in the mood for the Bandeja Paisa, everything else at this restaurant is tasty. The fried yucca is perfect… it’s not the mushy, pasty frozen kind you can find at other restaurants around Houston. The cooks at this restaurant use fresh yucca. My favorite thing to order when I’m not in the mood for rice and beans are their stuffed arepas. They offer arepas stuffed with cheese and your choice of chicharron, beef, or chicken. All choices are delicious and SUPER cheesy! As for drinks, do yourself a favor and order either a fresh fruit smoothie or a HOTCHOCOLATE. The hot chocolate here tastes just like the chocolate my abuelita used to make every Saturday morning! If you’ve never tried Colombian hot chocolate, this is the place to do it. If you’re in the mood for something fun and decadent, order your hot chocolate«con queso.» It will come with cheese to put inside of your hot chocolate that will get gooey and chocolatey and delicious. It may sound odd, but it’s worth a shot. Quick warning: The aji is SPICY here. It isn’t watery like at other Colombian restaurants around the city. The aji at La Sazon Colombiana is freshly made and just like you’ll find in Colombia. Use in small quantities unless you want to down a glass of water and cry«moooommmyyyy!!!»

The food is good and some items are really cheap, specially for the size, empanadas are good, I also had a bandeja paisa, and it was alright, nunca como las de medallo hp!, but it was not bad, since I cook I find it hard to understand why so many colombian restaurants fail to give true«sazon» to their item menus, but this restaurant will not disappoint you, nor it will impress you.
