I love this place — I was not a fish eater until I tasted the snapper here. All of the snapper plates I have eaten are excellent. I really enjoy the Triple Crawfish Combo. The jumbo gumbo is one of my favorite meals as well — a good variety of seafood and very tasty compared to any other gumbo I have eaten. You cannot go wrong here — really good food, really good price, and Rod Fuentes, the owner, is a most accommodating host! Along with a cold beer or wine or lemonade, it’s hard to beat! Wednesday nights are my favorite with the Over The Hill Gang playing Dixieland music. There are no more places in town where you can hear this kind of happy music on a regular basis. Out of all the places in town to choose to eat at — this one is a gem!

We were leary because of the location and would have never stopped if it weren’t for the Unilocal reviews! We were really pleased with our choices, as a fish snob I took a chance on the snapper and couldn’t stop eating it! The fondue was super greasy buy good flavor. Portions were great! Wish the atmosphere was a bit better.

Pricey bland gumbo, barely four spoonful for $ 4.95? Catfish poboy was just ok, un toast bread, wilted lettuce, with old greasy fries $ 9.99? Fried pickles are made from pickles straight the gallon cans, serve w/room temperature ranch. awful! Unfriendly waitstaffs, poor ambience. Fake Cajun, awful awful awful! Avoid this place, and spend a bit more for much better fresh made to order dishes at Pappas, Captain Benny or Captain Toms.

Great cajun food at a great price. We have never had a bad meal here. Sevice can get slow when it starts getting busy. Area is a little sketchy at night so we come for lunch.

Always wanted to visit this hole in the wall seafood establishment. The food was pretty decent for the price. They do serve daiquiris(wine based) all and all its was decent.

First time coming here, was working at a car mechanic down the street and I looked at Unilocal to see what was in the area. Been craving seafood/cajun for some time now, so I walked down the street and and went in. I arrived right as they were opening, the open sign wasn’t even on, hah! I got waited on immediately and order was taken. The menu is vast and everything sounds delicious! As for the environment, the staff is super nice, restaurant itself is clean, spacious, but not too spacious, but definitely accommodating. I will definitely will be coming back here to try what’s next on the menu.

Tried the combo shrimp platter, simply amazing and for 12 $ shrimp 3 ways I was impressed. Also there wasn’t a crowd and the service was fast.

The food was very good, had the catfish and gator. Everything was seasoned well and the service was excellent. The manager came around checking on things. Only down fall the bathrooms! Please fix and remodel!

They used to be really good, I would have given them a 4 in the past but not anymore. It’s become very bland, not cajun at all. I don’t know what happened, but I’m disappointed about the change and don’t plan to order from here again. My meal has been disappointing for the last three orders. I hope they find their way back

Love this gem of a restaurant off of Bellfort. It’s rather unassuming, and you would not be blamed if you completely glance past this restaurant without ever giving it a second thought, but you, my dear friend, would be losing out on a great opportunity. Absolutely fantastic cajun seafood here. Always ask about the daily specials — I love the way they do their butterfly filleted fish. The fish is fresh, and you’ve got an abundance of tasty sides here as well. They load up the plate for sure, and you can certainly stretch out a single plate to be two meals if you want. It’s certainly one of my top casual cajun restaurants in Houston — give it a try!

My husband and I came here for lunch. Husband is from Louisiana. After our move to TX from CA, we wanted some good southern food. Great food, great service. Got the Snapper Royale and the Catfish Poboy. Also a seafood fondue appetizer. So yummy and down to earth environment. The owner is really nice and our waitress was attentive and lovely.

Hard to get to. Was hoping the food was worth the trouble. Ordered the seafood gumbo and I only counted 3 – 5 shrimp. I wanted a bowl and was given a cup. Gumbo was bland and required assistance i.e. Hot sauce. I love gumbo and Lafayette was a big letdown.

I am from Louisiana and my uncle was a chef in N.O. So I have high standards for Cajun food. I had the seafood gumbo which was very spicy(yesss with cayenne not jalapeños) and roux was good. Also had the crab cakes(much too salty) with crawfish etouffe which was very good. The boudin balls could have used more Cajun herbs and I the hush puppies needed more spice. Overall not the worst Cajun food and certainly better than I have been able to find in the 10 years I have been in Houston. Reasonably priced for amount of food too! Will go back again.

Best bang for the buck you can get as far as seafood goes. Tastes as good as Pappadeux if not better. The snapper royal makes me crave it fortnightly! Definitely stop here and try it, especially during lunch.

The place is clean, the food is good, and the portions are large. I had the oyster poboy with a side of red beans and rice, neither were exceptional, but I enjoyed it all the same. The service was also excellent and attentive. In short, I’ve definitely had better Cajun food, but the overall value you here is outstanding.

Place had good reviews so I came in expecting good thing. Service is ok but my dirty rice was not good and the corn wasn’t my favorite either. I liked the snapper blackened and the gumbo was good. Bread butting wasnt that good I should just gone to papaduex they are good.

The first time we tried this place the food was a little above okay. Fried alligator, fried fish and shrimp. Can’t really mess up fried seafood unless under/over cooked. The second time we tried entrée meals, crawfish/crab cake plate for me. Shrimp trio for my boyfriend. Honestly, both of our meals were terrible! On my plate, Crab cake had a sour taste, étouffée was extremely greasy, overall disappointment. Shrimp trio plate, etoufee once again greasy, the fried shrimp were soggy because of the grease from étouffée. It may be hit or miss with this establishment. We, however, won’t be going back.

This place is a gem. The food is always fresh and delish. I order the boudin balls, crawfish étouffée, and seafood gumbo. I highly recommend this place.

Food is always good. Sometimes there is a wait.(That’s the only reason for 4 stars.). Favorites: Crabfingers and crawfish bisque. Beware: Wednesday nights are loud with the band!

Every week for the last two months, I have come here without fail. I always get three pounds of crawfish(one piece of corn and one piece of potato per pound is included), two each extra of corn and potatoes, and two house salads for about $ 26(today’s $ 5.95/lb). Today, the man who’s always working there gave me only one to-go container when there’s usually two. The container had crawfish, three pieces of corn, and three pieces of potatoes. I told him it wasn’t enough, and he insisted that the container contained 3 pounds of crawfish, weighed without the corn and potatoes. I told him it’s not possible to stuff one normal to-go container(smaller than Mikki’s Café) with 3 pounds of crawfish AND3 potatoes AND3 pieces of corn. I told him that there were only about 20 pieces, and he said that they use a scale and go by weight, not number of pieces. I find this interesting considering he told a woman a few weeks ago there’s about 15 – 20 pieces per pound. He made more at my insistence. I told him that I had been coming weekly for the last two months, and he said, «I know, I have customers that come every day.» I find that unbelievable considering he complains business is slow. To him, the customer is not always right, and he will not waiver in his stance. I left with an extra ¼ of a container. I brought the crawfish home and weighed it on a scale. Each piece of crawfish weighs 20 grams, which is 0.04 pounds. Therefore, you need about 25 pieces of crawfish to make one pound. He had given me a total of 28 pieces in the container where he claimed it was three pounds. Instead, it was 1.12 pounds. I was livid. I called. The waitress said to come in ten minutes, and they would give me more crawfish. I came twenty minutes later, and it wasn’t done. When she was done ringing up people, I told her to never treat me like this again. She said, «I’m sorry, it’s not my fault.» How is it that she hands me my to-go order week after week and doesn’t realize my order doesn’t have the usual amount? The man who I spoke with(and see week after week) wasn’t there when I went the second time. It just goes to show he’s a coward. Not only does it show he despises confrontation, but it also shows he knows he’s doing something wrong. Although the crawfish is absolutely delicious, I will not endorse cheaters. Never again!

I’m giving this place 2 stars but only because of the last two paragraphs on here, otherwise I would have totally rated them 1 star. We came here today on our way home from our annual Memorial Day Galveston trip. We didn’t get to eat seafood while we were in Galveston so I was really craving something from the sea! Like usual, I took to Unilocal to find a place and we settled on Lafayette. It had 4 stars and the food photos looked delish! Well shame on me for not reading the reviews thoroughly, I don’t know if they have a new cook or what but this food was NOT good ATALL. I really hate giving bad reviews, I try to refrain from it as much as possible but I don’t want others to be fooled by the 4 star rating on here. The owner needs to step up and get this place right! We started with the calamari, oh my gosh it was SO salty! Even my fiancé said it was salty and he loves salty things, we almost sent it back it was so salty but didn’t feel like being bothered with it. I ordered the snapper ponchetrain because the photos looked awesome and folks were raving about it online, well we must not have been eating the same dish! Unlike the overly salted calamari, my fish had NO flavor, maybe they used all the salt in the calamari breading and had none left to use on the fish. And the sauce? I didn’t even want to eat it because I felt it was a waste of calories, again no seasoning and the tiny little frozen shrimp made me sad :( The fiancé had crawfish and he said they were good, nothing to write home about but he liked them. My son had the kids fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and he liked that as well. Maybe I should have got fettuccine alfredo, who knows but all I do know is that I won’t ever be back to find out!

I’ve tried the étouffée several times. Tastes like home cooking. The staff is friendly. I normally order takeout, but the dining room area is nice.

A coworker suggested this place because she knows I live to eat. She mentioned it at 9 this morning and I’m here at noon. I don’t waste any time. Given the history of the owner and whole Pappadeaux connection thingy, I figured why not? Gumbo: I never have to have it again. Have you ever had something that was spicy, but had no flavor at all? This was it. I ordered the catfish and crawfish étouffée. The food is decent flavored. There’s two nice sized filets. But where on earth is the rest of the étouffée??? Please see the pic. Sigh. It taste ok, but I feel insulated by all of this rice and a sad splash of gravy… and about 8 crawfish tails. Let us not forget the«garlic» bread… with absolutely no garlic whatsoever. Do you see even a hint of ANYTHING on that bread? I do want to give the place another chance. I’ll be back to order the(I think it’s called) lemon butter shrimp and the crabcake. I would also like to give the boiled crawfish a try before the season is over. As for the service, the girl doesn’t smile much but she’s doing the bare minimum for her gig. She took my order and brought my food. I guess it doesn’t help that she’s the only one waiting the tables.

I don’t know what everyone else is eating when they go to this place, but it is terrible and completely inauthentic. If you are a true foodie, a creole or cajun person looking for authentic cajun, or your tastebuds simply work DONOTWASTEYOURTIME. I paid almost 20.00 for a catfish dinner that had no flavor, and tasted damn near like sand. The red beans, sucked. The etoufee, SUCKS. It’s not real cajun, period.

I had never heard of this place, but my dad who loves seafood had read about this restaurant in the newspaper wanted to try it out, so we went and I was completely satisfied afterwards. The place could be a little cleaner(silverware, restroom, etc.) but I’m giving it 5 stars based solely on the food! I had the special of the day — I think it was called shrimp étouffée w/avocado? All I remember is that it had shrimp and avocados and a good amount of veggies on the side. It was flavored perfectly and the portions were right. Our waitress was really nice, but her English wasn’t the best & at one point she had to call another worker because she couldn’t understand what we were trying to ask for. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a good cajun/seafood fix and will definitely return and order exactly what I got this time!

The food is ok the service is good– we had a coupon that helped– weird though their gumbo, etoufee and other dishes don’t look like what I get in new orleans. It isn’t ‘bad’ just odd. The place is always packed so I guess it is good.

It’s still a secret. Find out what only the locals know. This place is: Family Friendly, Warm, and Consistently providing inclusive Service. So, Come because it’s a pleasant and wonderful. Start with the fondue. Share a yummy appetizer. And your best bet is to focus your attention to the whiteboard specials. Personal favorites are easy standouts! Why not try the Red Fish Poblano or Flounder Tolouse? Family owned and the buzz the cooks are all former Pappadeaux crew. And the menu and the tastes reflect an interpretation of said cuisine with their own personal flair. For the Sugar Land crowd, you may find the environs too unpolished and too raw. Non hipster! Plastic institution plates. Mish mash decour. Come anyway. The food is good, cheap, flavorful and quite good. But, you may feel like you are slumming. It’s not a pretty place. Just good service by decent people. You decide. Sights and Sounds: On Wednesday you can’t believe what is before you, a Dixie Land Band that goes by the name of The Over The Hill Gang… the youngest member may be 70… and collecively, encourage the patrons to conga, freestyle dance and audience participation on the mic. And yes! People gladly participate! I’ve been here so many times, more than I can count. But Wednesday night is for sure the time to come. Come & support this local eatery! It’s the best kept secret!

Way too many options on the menu. I know it may sound like a good thing but it’s quite frustrating, like a 3 story Forever21. My food was ok, nothing out of the ordinary. You know that film that forms on food once it cools? Yea my plate had that but I tried to look past it. I’ve had better from chain restaraunts.
