King’s Antiques and Collectibles

love this place. they mostly specialize in english antique furniture, but they also have some american antique furniture, as well. their prices are really reasonable and they are super nice! they are actually no longer in montrose. they’ve moved to:

they have a space toward the back left of the west mall.

Out of all the places I’ve been antiquing in Montrose, this is hands-​down my favorite.
I don’t know why it is that I keep coming back to this big warehouse full of furniture, which used to be the plant for the Holyfield dry cleaning company (Empire Café used to be the site of its storefront). I’m pretty sure it doesn’t even go by this name anymore, which significantly slowed down my Unilocaling of this place. If you’re looking for a shop that’s bright and clean and has classical music playing in the background, you’re not going to find it here. It’s stark, with concrete floors and a distinct lack of windows, but there are rows upon rows of tables, chairs, armoires, chests and desks, with most of them imported from the UK so you can be sure you’re getting something really special when you buy something here. It’s dusty and kinda gross but getting a little dirt on my hands makes me feel like I’m having to work for my awesome find.
I bought a beautiful, art-​deco styled china cabinet right after Ike from this place (yes, my priorities were in order, thanks for asking) and I couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant transaction. When the dealer saw me prowling around and how hungrily I was eyeing it, he was willing to cut me a deal since he had a new shipment coming in soon, and nowhere to put it. The dealers I was working with – a Scottish man and an African-​American couple – were the nicest folks. They wrapped my cabinet up so it wouldn’t fly open on the ride home, and then allowed me a few days to get my truck situation together so I could pick it up (and transport it all the way down the block).
There’s always something I’m coveting in this shop… and right now it’s a wingbacked chair upholstered in powder blue velvet. Don’t expect it to be there for very long, though… it’ll probably be in my living room before I’m even aware my wallet is open!
