For those who spend the better parts of their week in the downtown Houston area, Jason’s Deli is a solid place to come for lunch. They’ve got a salad bar(which you can really load up on), free ice cream(you technically have to «buy» lunch first), soups, sandwiches, and chili. Their sandwiches, which make up a bulk of the menu, are solid. They’re no home-run by any means, but are a hell of a lot better than what most of us can make at home – making them a more than worthy option in my book. However, none are particularly noteworthy, and tend to be strikingly similar in taste and appearance(for better or for worse). I tend to avoid the soups and salads since I’m usually ready to scarf down multiple cows by lunchtime, but I’ve heard positive things about both. Their chili is actually quite delicious, though, and makes for an excellently-filling lunch, as long as you get a large and take full… FULL advantage of unlimited crackers. If you’re looking for a knock-your-sox-off sandwich, hit Zero’s just down the street. For«healthier» and more standard lunch options, you can’t go wrong with Jason’s.

Unfortunately we did not get to experience Jason’s Deli. They close at 3 but upon entering at 2:40, it was very clear they had already started closing. We came in to buy ice cream. The gentleman at the counter told us to go ahead and grab some. What a nice surprise. Until we get to the self serve station and one of the employees is dismantling the station. My girlfriend tells her we were just told to come get ice cream. She laughs and turns the machine on and water pours out. I don’t think she spoke English and the guy at the counter was very polite, hence 2 stars instead of 1. BUT, in the future, I would recommend shutting things down at closing time, which is 3, not 2:30ish.

Had lunch yesterday at Jason’s Deli off of Smith Street downtown. I walked here from my office but there are several parking garages in the area. Most traffic here are from the hundreds of offices and office buildings. Lunch time this place is packed! There was a 5 minute line then was able order. Many choices of soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, wraps, paninis, or a combo. I personally enjoyed the garden fresh salad bar w\Turkey & bowl of vegetable soup. You can help your self at the salad bar, lots of verity of everything! The bowl of soup was actually a plate of soup, generous portions for each. Tasted good, inexpensive, just a tad busy at lunchtime but we are downtown. I’ll definitely be back.

Great place for lunch in the downtown area and you’re trying to stay healthy. It gets super busy, so I’d recommend getting there before 11:20. I got the half sandwich(Wild Salmonwich) with a side salad and cup of fruit. The sandwich was soooo good — the chipotle aioli really made it. The salad bar at Jason’s is just okay, but they give you a huge bowl for the side salad that makes it worth the $ 1 extra cost. The fruit was pretty standard — some strawberries and cantoloupe, but the yogurt on the side is always yummy. And of course — at the end, you gotta get a free soft serve cone.

As far as Jason’s delis go, this location is my favorite. Very well run and excellent staff. Just a warning that this place gets packed during the lunch rush so try to go early. I really like to do the soup and salad bar because it is quick and good. But the sandwiches are pretty solid too.

Good food, needs better management and is better for takeout. We arrived for a later lunch, around 12:20. The first thing we noticed was a long line of about 20 – 30 people waiting for a single cash register. The takeout/online ordering line had about 4 people in line, but had two registers going. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the people behind me made a comment to the staff about the single register and were told that was done on purpose because there weren’t enough tables. Looking around, I could see only about half of the tables were occupied. The staff was definitely busy working on orders, but were not aware of the current seating situation. One of the staff moved to the second register in our line, and in about 10 minutes, both lines were completely gone, and tables were still available. The ice cream machine was broken, but a sign was offering free cookies instead. Standard JD tasty food and well-stocked salad bar. I had a manager special Cuban Press and side salad and would definitely have this again. This JD location has a few tables outside, so would be a great choice on a nice, non-busy day. Before you go to this location, place your order online or be prepared to wait. There are more tables and a quicker line at the other downtown location.

This deli is in the bottom of my building, so its kind of a default location for me. I have ordered food for large groups, picked up food togo, and dined in. My experience is always pretty good. The food is consistent Jasons food, the place is generally really clean and the staff is very friendly. The salad bar is really good for the price!

I’ve always been a fan of Jason’s Deli, and this location is no exception. Today I skipped the line and used the self help salad bar kiosk, aside from it trying to up-sell me on everything(no I don’t want soup, or chicken, or tuna salad…) it worked just fine. their salad is every bit as good looking and fresh as Salata for a couple bucks cheaper, and you can go back for more. Whatever you order, be sure to leave some room for the soft serve ice cream cone, which comes complimentary with your meal!

Definitely a quick and simple go-to lunch option. There is a huge variety for salads, soups, and sandwiches. If you can’t decide what you want, you can do the half/half combo with the option of fruits or chips as a side. If you prefer warmer food, there are also paninis and pastas. The sandwiches are a bit on the smaller side, but they make up for it by offering free and unlimited frozen yogurt! Very dangerous indeed. The line for dining in definitely gets long during lunch. If you are in a hurry, there is a separate cashier counter for take outs, and also a separate line for just the salad bar.

I love this place in terms of selection. Lots of lovely things to choose of the menu, and they tasted good! Can’t say I’m ever approving of a place with an «all you can eat» bar — even if it’s salad. Also, the line is huge, and the seating is squished and hard to get. However, the food and the service more than compensate.

Was going crazy walking downtown Houston for a place to eat when I ran into this place. Actually I asked a guy who was walking where i could eat breakfast and he turned out to be the supervisor at the place. All I can say is everyone was very nice and they made me a great sandwich for breakfast. So thanks and I’ll be coming back soon.

Delis are delis so here is why I’ll walk past a couple of them to go here. 1) Salmon-wich — A salmon sandwich served with avocado is worth the trip alone. 2) Self Pay Salad Bar — There is s separate set of registers where you can self pay for the salad bar and skip the line. 3) Free ice cream — Yes, it may sound lame but walking back to the office with a free ice cream cone makes the day a bit more enjoyable. The soups are good, sandwiches tasty(a bit big but that’s prob a Texas thing…), and the salad bar is nice.

MOLASSESGINGERMINIMUFFINS! Intrigued? Read on. If you like your sandwiches piled high with meat, this is your place. The sandwiches aren’t as large as I would like in terms of «surface area» but they pack a tasty punch and should be more than enough to satisfy you. The service is friendly enough even though it seems like hell is happening behind the prep counter. It’s just a little slow. When you see as many people as they have running hectically around to prepare meals, you expect slightly faster service. Not the case as we waited as long as 10+ minutes for our sandwiches. The clincher however that makes this place an absolute MUSTTRY are the complimentary molasses-sweetened ginger mini muffins. They’re super dark, appear chocolaty(though I can’t taste it), and have a taste that makes you want to stuff at least 3 into your mouth… at a time. So. Good. Also, I reviewed the wrong location last time around. :3

It’s your typical Jason’s Deli. There is a major plus in that you can skip the silly-long line if you’re only after soup and salad. It’s a bit expensive coming in at $ 10 for a cup of soup and salad. Get your money’s worth by getting 6 hard boiled eggs.

Let’s be honest. Your lunch options are limitless when it comes to delis. Within 1 block of this particular Jason’s Deli, there are atleast 5 different delis that I can name off the top of my head. Here is why I am a fan of this one: — I work very close, and whenever I want something quick, I call in my order, and by the time I walk over, they have my food ready. — Jason’s Deli has good food. It’s not the best, but it is consistent. — Unlike many other establishments in the area, there is ample seating inside and even a few covered tables outside. — The workers are courteous and quick. Let’s talk food. — Their sandwiches are all pretty good. My favorites are the Chicago Club, the Beefeater, and the Turkey Wrap. — On days when I want something lighter, I get a Kid’s PB&J on Wheat, which comes with an Apple Juice and you can opt for a side of fruit for only $ 2.99. — The potatoes are huge(granted it’s actually two potatoes put together) and will most definitely lead you into a post-lunch food coma. — If you want something warm, the pasta is decent and the soups are pretty good. All in all, I wouldn’t take the time to walk too far to this place, but if you work in the vicinity, this is a staple when you need something quick. TLDR: Not worth the exercise if you must walk more than couple blocks to get here. But then again, some people need it.
