I arrived in Houston with a few thousand yen in my wallet. I spotted this place on my way out & thought I might as well get the money exchanged. So I parked my mom with my luggage & walked up to the window & faced a very unhappy employee who oozed the warmth of an iceberg. I told her I needed to exchange some yen to dollars whilst I put my money on the counter. She unceremoniously put her book down, pursed her lips as she glared at the counter & quipped, «We DON’T take coins». So I scooped up the coins while she grabbed the bills & told me how much my total would be then sat back & looked at me with a vacuous stare. «Uh, that’s fine» I said after a couple of awkward seconds of silence. Like a voice activated robot she slapped some bills on the counter, picked up her book & continued to read. If I wasn’t just off the plane after a 2 week trip spent with family ²⁴⁄₇ (for those of you who are Asian you totally get what I mean by that), a 11 hour flight & going through customs, I would have gladly shoved my exchange up her bottom if it wasn’t for that rather large stick that was already there.
