By far one of the best Chinese buffets in the area. Large selection of food and good service.

The food was so bad it literally seemed like the staff was in the back laughing at us for eating it. I like various Chinese buffets a ton and don’t have super high expectations. I have never left a buffet hungry like I did that day. Avoid this buffet at all costs.

Went here for lunch on a Monday with a group of four. Buffets are not typically my favorite because the food tends to be bland, and sometimes a little cooler than I would like. This place is pretty standard, lots of options, but gets a little crowded due to the layout of the buffet lines. If you get there around 12 or later, expect a wait, but they tend to turn over tables pretty quickly.

We came here to eat with the family after church on sunday, It was good until the lady who«owns» the restaurant came up to our table and started telling my sister and I that I couldn’t be drinking out of her cup, I usually drink water, but I’ll take a soda here and there, and she made a whole scene about it. Of course my mom got startled about the fact. On the other hand there was this nice gentleman who apologized for her rudeness, but to be honest I only had a plate of food cause I completely lost my appetite after that. Thanks hanan

This place used to be great. Unfortunately, the food quality and overall presentation of this restaurant is now terrible. The sushi tastes of sweet rice, no fish or vegetables. To make matters worse, a piece of sushi I got had an extremely long white hair in it that ended up in my mouth. It was actually wrapped in the sushi, and the roll was fresh so its impossible a customer accidentally dropped hair on the roll. The only decent food I had was fried rice, and that’s nearly impossible to mess up. The fish and chicken dishes were too salty and mushy. The worst part of my visit was the icecream machine. I figured: «Okay, they can’t mess this up.» Nope, they did. Either the machine hasn’t been cleaned in months, or the mixture was spoiled. I honestly believe both of these errors were present. The icecream tasted like chemicals and sour cream and smelled like a dirty sock. I nearly gagged at the table. The icecream was so bad we told a cook about it, no compensation or explanation from their end. The floors were extremely dirty. This place honestly just stinks. Please, save your money.

Not real big on Chinese buffets but this one was a bit different. I was given a number when i arrived due to the crowd that had gathered around lunch time. It was maybe a 5 – 8 minute wait then i was seated and asked for my drink selection. Pretty much the same as everywhere else to this point .then the food… I have to say they had a pretty big selection and many of my favorites only difference is that it was fresh and hot. The staff was non stop refilling the entrees on the buffet and my waitress was constantly filling my ice tea. which I loved. Everything tasted great. white breast chicken on the chicken entrees. None of that nonwhite misc. chicken meat. Veggies were fresh, not over cooked. You could eat healthy or come out weighing 3 more pounds. For a chinese buffet they got it pretty right. 4.5 stars. $$ will be back next time im in the mood for a variety of selections of American Chinese foods.

I have eaten here twice and both times I have gotten sick. I love local neighborhood places but after the 2nd try and the same results I’m done. Good Luck.

I have to update my review because this place is getting ridiculous with the prices. They charge your children according to height. I could have gotten my son a much better meal for $ 10.50 elsewhere. They continue to find ways to raise their prices. Go somewhere else!

Best Chinese buffet in Houston. I drive all the way from Tomball to eat here. Steamed dumplings are the best. Everything is good and the staff are all great. Been eating here since they opened. You won’t be disappointed.

Great selection and great food. the food quality at this buffet is far greater than all the Chinese buffets I’ve been to here in Houston which is almost all of them lol. I recommend you try it. the teriyaki chicken was on point.

What happens to this place? I used to love it and the one on 59. The fried shrimp was a tiny sliver of shrimp and tons of breading. Dumplings were dry. Mongolian pork was tough and inedible. Egg foo yung was tasteless. Cold boiled shrimp were old and the shell would not come off of it. Singapore noodles were OK. Sushi was ok. But, definitely not what I remember… and I got there at 11:15 so it wasn’t like the food had sat out for a while…

Food tastes good. Service is quick and attentive. Selection is decent. Overall good place for Chinese buffet. The food area is crowded at lunch time. No other complaints except my fortune cookie was way off.

Chinese buffets are all over this town and I’ve been to nearly everyone at least once. Hunan Chef is my GOTOPLACE. The selection is simple but cooked well. Not too salty and full of taste. I only wish the steamed rice would be the sticky version instead of the dry long grain type. Gen Tsao chicken is on point, wok fried salty shrimp is gulf, not farm. Orange and sesamee chicken dishes not to my liking. Long green beans with garlic beef sauce is excellent. Curry noodles are tasty. I like the wait staff too. $ 2 tip is what I give because they work hard for it.

I don’t usually go to buffets, however I have come here a few times when I have been very pressed for time. As far as buffets go the variety of the food and taste is pretty good. The food is mass produced but then again, it’s a buffet. I recommend this place.

I have been coming to this place for 12 years now. Great food and service at a fair price. Their sautéed shrimp is to die for, great General Tso’s chicken, good hot soups and they feature a very decent variety at the sushi bar, which is included on the buffet price, unlike some other places. Serving staff is great, they’ll refill your drink constantly and on a regular basis. My only recommendation is towards Management, who takes care of the check out and seating process. They could use a friendlier attitude when they greet their customers or take payments.

One word to describe this buffet would be mediocre. I don’t come to Chinese buffets with high expectations as the food is generally the same from restaurant to restaurant. However, when I came to try this location, I was sorely disappointed. The sushi was awful, the fried foods weren’t crispy, and the stir-frys were bland and unappealing. The only redeeming quality of this restaurant was the service as the servers were very friendly and polite. With other good buffets nearby such as Hibachi Grill and Kpop, I will not be making another visit to Hunan Chef.

I know this is a Chinese buffet, what did I expect. My husband and I went yesterday, maybe it was because it was late in the afternoon but the food was terrible there was no variety. I was very dissapointed especially after reading the reviews. Afterwards I told my son about my experience and he said he had gone and had the same experience at Hunan… wish I would have known.

The service was good which is why I can give 2 stars here, but other than that, I found the food disgusting and the floors were filthy. I took a bite or two of all of the options I put on my plate, and I didn’t finish a single thing except an egg roll. The egg roll was the only redeeming quality to this buffet(because usually buffets fail miserably in the egg roll department). Otherwise, I left in the middle of my meal still hungry and feeling sick to my stomach. I will not go back here. Also…the buffets are way too close together. You can’t walk a line without bumping into someone who is behind you going to another buffet line. If you like greasy, burnt, soggy, fried shrimp and spring rolls that smell like bile, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, steer clear of here.

GOOD quality of food, friendly staff and clean restrooms. It might be a little more expensive than others… but I’m happier knowing that I’m eating better! And… unlike the cheap buffet places… I feel fine afterwards too!(if you know what I mean!)

So this place used to have Unilocal sticker on the door, but not sure what happened to it… $ 9 for lunch, and $ 10 for dinner and weekends. It’s a pretty good deal considers they have so many islands of food, ranging from your standard Chinese dishes, fried food, soups, American entrees for the kiddos, and sushi. I haven’t tried their lunch, but I know on the weekends they serve unagi as part of their sushi selection! Yeah, you heard me… eel! I have no idea how long they can keep this up, or if people who usually go here have no idea what it is and never eat it. I always scoop up at least four pieces, along with some of the other sushi pieces and rolls. That alone, in my opinion, is worth the $ 10! The buffet is always fresh and hot on the weekends, and there can be quite a Sunday afternoon crowd after church services let out. If you look at my other Asian Buffet reviews, I really don’t give out high ratings for most places due to their poor QC and general nastiness. This would probably be the only buffet I’d recommend, even more so than the expensive Tokyo One. I haven’t tried KPop though, so stay tuned!
