Really rude, workers here, my daughter went there today to buy banh chung, she went there early to put her name and number down to reserve for the banh Chung. But the lady rudely said«don’t have time to call» she said she’s not sell the banh Chung until 11, so my daughter went back around 11 to pick up order but she said sold out even though she put her name down and told here so clearly that I want to order that to pick up at 11. You guy really need to look at again how you serve customers. I work in the service industry too and I understand how stressful one can be with bad customers but my daughter asked really politely she even said you don’t have to call her back, she will get back on time to pickup the order even after you rude reply her, so I see no point of you being rude.

I still love their gio(Vietnamese ham). They are freshly made and pretty good. I give this place a 5 star for their gio, but only give 4 star on the service. The service is not bad, but they need more smiles on their faces. Need to be more friendly. Tip: I think they usually have their cha que after 12 noon. If you love their Cha Que like I do, don’t come before that.

Craving some homemade, Vietnamese ham(cha lua)? Then look no further than Duc Huong! If you come at the right time, the ham might even be warm and ready for the eating! This small store is located in Chinatown’s Universal Shopping Plaza off Bellaire between Boone and Kirkwood. I recommend coming here with a Vietnamese friend to ease the shopping experience and to also bring cash(remember that cash is king in Chinatown). I enjoy the convenience of small specialty stores like this because they only focus on a few items, which ensures a great quality product! Everything here is made fresh daily(and a friendly reminder that they are closed on Wednesdays). Here are the options: 1. Cha lua: steamed pork, beef or chicken ham 2. Gio thu: Vietnamese«head cheese»: cold cut ham made from various parts of a pig’s head, held together by congealed natural gelatin 3. Cha Que: Hue style fried ham with cinnamon 4. Nem chua: fermented/cured pork 5. Banh gio: steamed minced pork and rice dumpling 6. Banh tet: sticky rice cake with pork and mung bean My favorite items are the cha lua(pork), cha que, and nem chua. I have always been 100% satisfied with everything here through the years. It’s convenient to have fresh cha lua ready to pick up for banh mi(Vietnamese sandwiches) or banh cuon(steamed rice rolls). Also, come early on weekends to ensure the best selections before they sell out or you might have to wait for the next batch to come out of the kitchen. During the weekday, cha lua/cha que availability usually is not a major issue.

They used to be nice but since they have gained more popularity, I would not say it is bad but the service is not the same. Cha Chien = Average Gio Bi = Good(I rather go to another one) Gio Bo = Good Gio Lua = Good

Their products are good, but they should have learned HOW to talk to customers. I came to BUY their food, I didn’t beg for anything, but a staff talked to me as if I was a beggar! When I just stepped in to the store, a staff looked me and asked«mua gì?”(«buy what?» literally translated). I said politely what I want in a FULL sentence. She replied«nua tieng nua moi có»(will be ready in 30 minutes). I was a little bit confused because I thought when they hang the sign«open», they should be well prepared, but I didn’t say anything. She was starring at me and yelled«đã nói là nua tieng na moi có, không nghe ha?»(I already said 30 more minutes? Didn’t you hear that?) I cannot translate exactly this one, because she didn’t use a subject and an object in any of her sentences! Jesus, is she a civilized human being??? She has NO manners at all!

I would probably go here on non Lunar New Year days. So that week of preparations for the Lunar New Year, be warned that you will deal with a very long line and that they will run out before you even get to your turn. Which means that they have some delicious cha lua or Vietnamese pork roll/ham. I like going to food specialty shops like this one because that means the product will be really good since they are only focusing on a particular item so they must have it perfected! I like the regular cha lua and yes, it does taste good several days later. I prefer to eat it cold and in french bread. Mmmm. There are other places I like to get cha lua from, but will venture here for a more special purchasing experience. :)

The best Vietnamese ham in town. I love both of steam pork ham and fried pork ham here. Their«nem chua» was stunning, so yummy. I miss it a lot bc I’m pregnant right now so I cannot eat raw meat. Cannot wait to eat that after my delivery. CASHONLY!!!

You want cha lua? What you want is what you get. The place is small, simple, unassuming, but they sell really delicious products. I brought cha lua to school one day, and didn’t realize how much these things stink. LOL. Being Vietnamese, I think it falls under the same umbrella as fish sauce, durian, and stinky tofu. Ok, well, stinky tofu really actually stinks. Some people like it tho? Anyway, lets say it has a distinctive smell, but is extremely DELICIOUS. Put some in french bread with soy sauce/peppers, woooooooooot, party in my mouth! Anyway, back to my point. This cha lua is gooooood. Our family likes to get chicken(for those scared of the pork), pork(because this is the norm and my favorite), and the hue style(has bits of cinnamon in it, so good!). They also sell nem, shredded pork(aka ruoc/cha bong), and drinks. Standing room only friends, but take it home to your family and share the wealth. During Chinese New Year’s, these fly off the shelves like hotcakes. People actually stand in line before they open to get their hands on these babies. They sell until they run out, which happens almost EVERYDAY for a week before new years. They’re made fresh daily, so they go perfectly with banh tet and other new years goodies. They also make really good gifts! So yum. I am seriously drooling right now. Some ideas for the gio: with banh cuon, in sandwiches, on rice, fried(replace the bacon) to be had with some eggs, and as a snack by itself. You’re welcome. ***Edited to ADD*** Tet(Chinese/Vietnamese New Year — Unilocal doesn’t let me write it properly) is coming up! We always get bánh tét(sticky rice with sweet or meat filling, wrapped in banana leaves) from here! It’s delicious and made fresh during the week or two before the new year. I’m droooooling thinking about it… Be sure to get there early in the morning because they tend to run out the closer it gets to the new year!

This is the place to get authentic Vietnamese sausage and other snacks too! I have tried the beef, the chicken, the pork, and the hue style. Their banh gio is of good size and doesn’t overdry when you heat it in the microwave. Great portion, they make it fresh daily, and I always am greeted by nice ladies. The store is really simple. I was raised on this Vietnamese sausage, and now I’m hooked on this store because no one cooks it better than them!

Vietnamese ham rolls. That’s what this place is known for. The best in town. They make it fresh, so this would explain why there’s sometimes long lines out the door. No, you can’t eat here. But if you need the best slices of boiled ham(gio) in Houston to go with whatever you’re eating it with(banh mi, banh cuon, bun thang, or banh chung), this place is it! We bought the best banh chung yesterday at Tan Binh nearby and painfully waited in a long line here to get a roll of ham even though you could easily buy it at that market. They also make banh chung here too if you’re interested.
