I’ve been eating here for years. This place is a great Place to take family and friends to get a great taste of BBQ. The Employees are very kind and helpful. They have a good selection of bbq, my personal Favorite is their BBQ taco combo. I always enjoy my experience there!

Came for lunch and it was pointless. I had the 3 meat platter with ribs, brisket ‚& sausage. All 3 were dry and it had no smoked flavor. Tasted like the ribs were boiled, then baked under the broiler. The sauce was generic as they come. As sides I had the flavorless mav & cheese, not even a pinch of salt. I also had the gratin potatoes with the nacho cheese you find at concession stands. This is not a good example of BBQ. There wasn’t many customers so that could have made the food just sit there for a little to long. I probably won’t be going back but I’m curious as to how they food would taste when it’s fresh.

Visited on Memorial Day 2015 for lunch. Great location, Energy Corridor… lots of apts and nice neighborhoods in this area. Lots of good restaurants around. I am a BBQ lover, however, when I sat down to a 2 meat plate was surprised at how tasteless the pork ribs and brisket were. Was it just this one day? Sorry, Gil… i love to sing the praises of tasty food, and don’t like giving bad reviews but I cannot tell a lie, I was stunned by the lack of flavor and the toughness of brisket and rubberiness of the ribs. Someone wrote about the juicy turkey… o.k. if that’s ur definition of BBQ. But most BBQ lovers judge a chef’s skill by the pork & beef & if u like the sides it cinches the deal. Sorry, but won’t be returning there again. Best of Luck!

The sign in the window boasts of an all you can eat buffet for $ 19. There was no buffet, so I assume you could just go to the counter for a refill. But why? I ordered a 2 meat plate for about $ 12. The brisket was surprisingly lean and they cut a generous portion. Unfortunately, even the best brisket will dry out over time and an empty restaurant on a Friday evening at 6:30 isn’t a good sign. My other meat, ¼ chicken was dry as well. Add my wife’s smoked turkey and we’ve got the trifecta. Mild smoke flavor and dry– saved by a decent sauce with more tang than sweet. Sides were fine-cole slaw & cucumber salad. We passed on the Mac & cheese. It looked like it had already set to plaster. The final indignity? No beer to wash it down. They don’t have a liquor license. Honestly, one has to wonder how they keep the doors open.

ABSOLUTELY5-star worthy! BESTBAKEDPOTATO! BESTSMOKEDSAUSAGE! I recently discovered Gil’s BBQ, probably not even a month ago and I practically lunch here daily since it’s so close to my job and home! I had completely written off BBQ as a lunch option in the area given my DISASTER of an experience at Big Daddy’s BBQ. But a coworker recommended Gil’s BBQ and I figured it was worth a baked potato risk. SOOOGLAD I DID! The joint is in the same complex as Lasagna House III so you can’t miss it, and it’s a big roomy diner! You will NEVER have any problems with parking either. Lots to go around! The staff is very personable and knows all the regulars by name and order! Super adorbs! I absolutely LOVE thier baked potatoes! They don’t cheat you on the meat either. Your toppings go at the bottom of the potato and then overstuffed with the meat from the top. Just amazing! I love the brisket potato! My all-time favorite is the 2-meat dinner combo with two sides. YOUMUSTHAVETHESPICYSAUSAGE! For the sides I love the mac n cheese, I adore the scalloped potatoes and love the potato salad! I think it’s a great place to eat at, plenty of tables, lots of sports badgery everywhere, and they have great daily specials!

I just found Gil’s even though I have driven by it a thousand times. It is in a strip mall and you can miss it if you aren’t looking for it. I have only tried the baked potatoe and brisket becuase it is really good and fills me up every time. The guys will recognize you after a visit or two and go out of thier way to make sure you get what you want. You start in a cafeteria line and order your meal and pay at the register. There is a condiment bar and drink dispenser on the end. I asked for extra sauce the first time I came in and haven’t had to ask again. There are tvs on the wall to watch while you eat and plenty of seating. It also doesn’t have the overpowering bbq smell, so when you go back to the office everyone doesn’t smell you down the hall.

Ribs were tough, I guess from yesterday. Sausage was good but that’s the easiest thing to make. Guess I need to drive a bit farther to find good ribs n brisket

I had the bake potato with chop beef. Chopped with tender juicy brisket. It’s big enough for two under $ 9.00. Everyone was very friendly especially Gil the owner. I plan to come back soon. I also met Fred the owner and CEO of Safe Lock Repair. I had no idea it was him and he treated me to a slab of beef ribs. What a cool guy. :-). Will save it for tomorrow with the rest of my bake potato. Too much food. lol

Good food. Great service. Family friendly with a Houston local sports feel. The beans are some of the best in town

I just got meat to go. ribs. They only have pork and they are nasty. no flavor and fatty as hell. «spicy» sausage… Nasty no flavor and brisket again nasty with no freaking flavor. The biggest insult is the brown water they call BBQ sauce. I had to toss it away and pull out my own sauce from the fridge. I had to dunk it in something to get the crap down. I just got 2lbs of dog food for 30 buck. The best thing I got was the onions and pickles.

The whole menu looked average, but when I asked for turkey and was served lunch meat, I knew this place was sub par. Upon tasting said deli meat, I was filled with a deep regret. Gil’s, your food needs some work. Step one: serve real turkey, not deli meat.

This past weekend Gil’s Bar-B-Q had a stand set up at the local Katy Brewery. I haven’t been to the restaurant yet, but after trying the BBQ will be going there in the near future. I had the baked potato loaded with butter, green onions, bacon bits, shredded cheese, sour cream then topped with chopped beef and sauce. The potato was large, cooked perfectly and soft. The toppings were all fresh as well. I really liked the chopped BBQ beef and the sauce. I am kind of picky when it comes to BBQ sauces, as I grew up on the east coast and am used to the NC style vinegar based sauces. The sauce wasn’t vinegar based, but it was one of the better sauces that I have had in Texas. I don’t know if the people working the stand were employees or the owners, but they were very friendly.

I had the chopped beef sandwich… it reminded me of the middle school BBQ sandwiches I once had… That is not a good quality.

My coworkers turned me onto this place and it is fantastic. Their smoked turkey is so juicy and flavorful– I like to get a baked potato topped with it. And their BBQ sauce is soooo good– not thick and gloppy– I hate that; it’s got a really good tang.

I came here during lunch time with a group of friends– what a mistake! The place is run down and filthy. On first entering, there was a pile of water coolers stacked next to the front door, that needed a bad washing. The floors were filthy and probably hadn’t been mopped for a very long time. The children’s play area didn’t look so hot either. We happened to go on the day that Gil was retiring and it just seemed like the place was ready to be shut down. Although the sausage was redeemable, the rest of the meat just seemed dry and tasteless. None of the sides were good. In fact, the macaroni and the cheesy potatoes were just about the most disgusting thing I’ve had in a very long time. Out of my group, about ½ of us only took a few bites and didn’t finish the meal. I definitely think this place has seem better times.

Gil’s is pretty good! The décor is dated diner-style. The food is a solid 3.5 stars for cheap lunch BBQ. When you add in the value(po-boy sandwich, side and a drink for under $ 7) it rounds up to four stars. Give Gil’s a try — it is far better than Houston BBQ just up the road. Gil’s is now a fixture in my work lunch rotation. In the same strip mall as Lasagna House III — just a door or two down.

Gil is the greatest man ever. The food is OK. There’s a good variety of meats and the bbq sauce is good. But what makes this such a great place to go is Gil. He’s super nice, attentive, and makes you feel welcome. There’s an all you can eat buffet for under $ 15. Not bad for the price. The food is about a 3.5, but Gil himself is a 5. So it averages to about 4 stars. Because of the atmosphere, I’m definitely going to come back!

Gil’s is the original, Big Daddy’s came after. They still use most of Gil’s recipes. I like the spicy sausage, but the macaroni & cheese is excellent; cheeeesy and flecked with black pepper that adds a little bite. Gil is a great guy and active in the community. The sports guys hang here at lunch break and they draw a good takeout crowd. Based on their location, this should have an Eldridge address, but it doesn’t. Seems a little odd to me.
