Came with my dad while I was back home for the holidays. This is his go-to spot for his manly pedis, so I(reluctantly) tagged along. It was an empty Monday afternoon, and Jenny did my nails with the quickness… I wasn’t expecting much since they only had shellac on their menu, so I just asked for tips with polish even though I wanted to try SNS or color powder. Turns out they do have shellac as well as color powder, but she surprisingly didn’t try to upsell me on those. She wasn’t rough, but the whole thing was rather rushed considering we were the only ones there. The polish looks okay but has already started chipping a little at the ends(nothing severe). It’s not quite as stuck in 2006 as I had expected, but it’s also not on par with any salon I’ve been to in the last 2 years.

I’ve been going to this nail shop for about 5 years and it’s been great. But lately, the service has changed and so has the atmosphere. I find it very offensive when in a nail shop, the technician speak to one another in a language other than English, while making gestures at the customers. Since my time at the nail shop I’ve become very close with the technicians. So I think they felt comfortable talking to me about certain things. I was informed by one of the technicians that they don’t like to service certain customers, Africans. I didn’t immediately get offended because I don’t like to jump to conclusions. But I did ask why, the nail technician informed me that African women are very rude, and their tone of voice is very aggressive, and so she refuses to service them. Now, that’s her perogative, and I respect that. Because they have never treated me in a disrespectful way or even offended me. I refered my sister and we both went to the nail shop together. The same technician that said she does not service Africans, worked on my sister’s nail. Whil doing her nails, she asked me, «is this your sister“‘ I replied yes. She then said, «is this your real sister». I again replied yes. But I immediately thought to what does that mean… My sister recently had an accident that disfigured her face. The same nail technician that ask if we were real sisters while working on my sister’s nails, spoke to the other nail technician in their language, and made a hand gesture covering her face and they both laughed. This really bothered my sister because she was already self-conscious about her injuries. Now I’m not easily offended, and I’m not a disagreeable person, but I think everyone should be treated in a cordial manner. So, as much as I love Elise Nails I will not continue to patronize them.

There was nothing different or exceptional about this place. It is your run of the mill nail salon, that doesn’t have the latest updates. Customer service is okay, but nothing to brag about. They offer the spa manicure and pedicure, and rush the service. The nail tech did her job, but didn’t pay much attention to details. I had to advise her several times to paint in the cracks, and fill in the spots. If you are looking for a nail salon that is a cut above this isn’t the place. If you want a quick fix, with C level customer service this is the place for you. I’m realistic and didn’t expect the Hollywood treatment at this local shop, but considering the fact nail shops are on every corner in Houston, it would have been nice for this place to have some perks that could encourage repeat business.
