Service ehh, it’s a taqueria so we all know how that goes. Food is good, let me talk about the margaritas! They’re great! Never acknowledged them since taquerias suck at making them. Manager at nights is pretty cool and always makes sure am doing good!

I will never go back to this place… ever. Only reason I went is because it’s open late & we were meeting friends that had just finished a late sports match in the neighbourhood. First of all, the dude locked both doors behind us when we walked in, WTF. Had there been a fire, I would have simply broken a window without feeling guilty. Second of all, the food sucked, the quality was subpar. The torta was meh, the enchiladas were bland & quite frankly nasty. The staff were ok but didn’t feel like they cared. It was 45 minutes before closing time & they clearly made us feel like we weren’t welcome. We were only 4 people in the whole restaurant & they jacked the volume on the jukebox so high, it was ridiculous. It felt overall dirty & sketchy, most of the staff were giving us the stank eye even though we were leaving 10 minutes before the closing time. Finally, I needed to go back inside to get someone to unlock a door so we could leave. Done.

I was d e v a s t a t e d when Arandas closed. For a year– I have been in search for an alternative. I saw a billboard on 59 saying there was a new Arandas on Gessner. I was dancing with excitement. I went for breakfast the next day then realized it was not even close to my beloved old Arandas.(separate review for them) I decide to check out Unilocal reviews for Don Rey still trying to find answers of what happened to the previous tenant. Then I see everyone saying it is the same staff and restaurant just changed the name. I couldn’t believe it!!! I finally made it in and it was like coming across a long lost love. Yes, same staff, same food, same décor… just different name. I love this place. My chilaquiles still the best ever.

A bunch of us from my workplace have ordered from here. The fajita beef tacos are pretty amazing. The beef looks dry but when you bite into it – it’s deliciously juicy! They give you 1 green avocado jalepeno sauce(which is crazy spicy but so good!) and 1 red salsa/picante sauce to drizzle over the tacos. One of the best beef fajita tacos I’ve ever had. Our food-runner that picks up for is says it’s authentic Mexican(so if you’re only into Tex-Mex it may not be for you. Haven’t been to it myself since one of the girls usually goes to pick it up but their food deserves at least 4 stars.

We were here on a Saturday close too noon for breakfast. Service is amazing, bathrooms are nice and incredibly clean and scented. Their chips and salsa are amazing, easily best green and red sauces in town. My chilaquiles were good, my girlfriends breakfast was alright — but the potatoes in her plate were cold, the bacon not great and the tortillas weren’t homemade– not great tasting — and they charge $ 0.99 each order. Mexican bread was not too good either. Good food, great service, clean place —

Salsa is good here. I come here a couple times a month because it’s near my office and colleagues like it. As a vegetarian, I appreciate that they will attempt to make items without meat. Attempt is the operative word. On more than one occasion, my otherwise vegetarian dish has arrived with a piece of meat on it. It makes me wonder about food safety if they are doing that poor of a job keeping fresh vegetables and cooked meat separated.

Place was packed yesterday. My car was practically kissing the street. There were 5 in our group and we were quickly shown our seats. If you like soccer, plenty of good views no matter where you sit. Booths can fit up 6 people. Service was excellent and swift. Coffee was good and instead of breakfast ordered small menudo. It was not too spicy, just right. Waiter stopped by regularly and we received refills on coffee. The menu is slightly different, they have all American, Central America, and standard breakfast meals. When you are ready to pay, just take your bill to counter and they will ring up your order. Parking can be challenge during peak hours. As we walked out saw a delicious strawberry shake that I want to try next time.

I love this place. It’s very close to our house so it is one of my family’s go-to spots. The food is good and I always appreciate their amazing staff that always try to accommodate my brother’s(he is mentally ill) particular seating needs. tortilla The last time I went I was the hungriest out of the 5 of us and was the last one who’s plate was brought to the table. However, I did not care once I tasted those freshly made sope tortillas! It was worth the wait :)

Bad food, bad service ! I ordered 2 tacos & they never got there, & yet the owner had the nerve to charge them. When I told him about the situation, it was clear he didn’t even know what was going on & clearly didn’t care . Lastly, he should pay more attention to the customers & how their chips had to be asked for. When this place was Arandas it was way better service & more attentive . Wish we could give 0 stars & hopefully this place stays in buisness.

ITLIVES! We were devastated when we thought the Taqueria Arandas formerly at this location had closed, but Don Rey IS the same place in every way but the name. They have the same complimentary chips on the table, the same green salsa(which is still not for the faint-hearted), the same low prices. A few welcome changes too; the menu has been pared down somewhat so it’s not nearly as intimidating to look at, and is a lot easier on the kitchen. The bargain $ 2.99-before-10am menu has actually been improved — portions are the same, but each meal now comes with potatoes as well as refried beans. Lunch and dinner are great here too; portions of beef fajitas are generous and their tacos al pastor are better and cheaper than the local taco trucks. If you live nearby and have never been here you need to try it at least once.

I have eaten at this restaurant frequently for several years now. The location used to be called Taqueria Arandas and the name was changed to Don Rey Mexican Restaurant a few months ago. I asked the employees about the name change and I did not get a straight answer from them, however I noticed that the same employees are still working there. I do not know if the restaurant changed names or it was sold. It does not matter because the food did not change. They have a different menu but everything is still basically the same. I only eat lunch at this location. The chips and sauces are very good, however be careful with the green sauce because it really got hot about a year ago. I always order the Beef Quesadilla plate and it comes with charro beans and Guacamole. The service is excellent most of the time.
