One day I will actually make it to this shop. I ordered some Luchador Masks for my wedding through there online store. The Groomsmen received Mexican Wrestling Masks as gifts. It was a bit of a hurdle with my wife but she knew what she shouldn’t expect anything less from me. She saw it my way and the masks turned out to be a HUGE hit at the wedding. My questions were answered and transaction went down super easy and ultra secure through emails and online. They actually have some of the best deals going on the masks. Thanks Corazon you helped make my wedding a lot more memorable.

Corazón is a fair trade shop representing artist co-ops from all over Central and South America, and, perhaps symbolic of the struggle of developing countries on the global market, Corazón is located in a tiny tienda that I hope can withstand the growth of apartment complexes and condominiums nearby. When I was searching for a luchador mask for Halloween(anything to wear tights, right?), I remembered seeing one peering out through a window off Fairview somewhere. I drove around a bit until I found the shop, somewhat obscured by trees. When I entered, I was taken aback. Not just a few masks, but tables and displays full of them, and more in back. Traditional arts and crafts, figurines, and exquisite, pressed guayaberas(Mexican wedding shirts) hanging on racks throughout the store. They may be un poco caro($ 49 or 2 for $ 89), but remember, these are auténtico, coming from, and supporting, fair trade artisans. I thought to myself«¡Qué fabuloso!» I mean, really, try to name a good place to find Lucha Libre masks and capes, or beautifully hand-stitched guayaberas. You can’t, can you? I think it speaks volumes about our city’s vibrant culture, especially the art-conscious Montrose and Lower Westheimer areas, that a place like Corazón exists. Buena suerte, Corazón, y vivan las artesanías.

Support the community! Support Fair Trade! All at Corazon! Corazon offers, posters, political bumper stickers, and hand crafted goods from Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. His prices are pretty reasonable. Most places here in Houston charge a fortune for imported goods. He also has a pretty intersting book collection, small but interesting. This is also a good place to buy your«Dias de los Muertos» monitos(figurines). He also sells some pretty cool Mate gourds and straws! Check it out!

You never know what you’ll find at Corazon, but it will always be hand-chosen by the kind, socially concerned, culturally literate owner. He travels the world every year(I believe) and returns with a stunning range of gifts to sell — with a fair share of the profits going to their creators. This is the place to pick up your copy of Slingshot, buy some Zapatista-picked coffee, or find the perfect, guilt-free gift. The last time I was in, there were beautiful dolls and ponchos, books, housewares, and jewelry from South and Latin America(I think). This review is making me look ignorant, but really it just means that I need to plan another visit to this wonderful little store.
