Great smells of delicious coffee beans welcome you as you enter. Traditional options and true coffee barista recipes. Want to try their iced coffee and drop option next time. I ordered the macchiato — it was yummy. Only regret is not having more time. Was super busy and broke my tranquility :(

$ 3 for a mocha? Yes, please. I love this quaint coffee shop. Great aesthetics. Friendly staff. Slight wait time. EXTREMELY crowded on a Saturday afternoon but what do you expect? They ambience is very hipster. When I came here it felt like I was walking around Tumblr. I definitely recommend this place! At least try it once. :)

We had their hot tea there. It was good. Still need to try their coffee. The place looks more like a hangout place rather than the place to study. Parking is in the back. We went there on a Friday evening and it was slow.

My second favorite place for caramel latte. Just a right amount of expresso and milk. The fragrant from the coffee bean is inviting. In comparison to coffee shops in montroe this place is most affordable. $ 6 and some change for a latte and scone. Yum. But it is not for those who like sweet coffee drinks because there is only 3 choices of latte and no skim milk :(.

I love the coffee here so much. My only regret is that I can’t get it every morning because I’m usually in a rush and taking my toddler in and out of the car would be too time consuming. All that aside the drinks I’ve had are amazingly good! It’s not fair that it’s so good here and Sbux is so so bad. Not fair at all :-)

I moved here from Portland, OR about a month ago, and since then I’ve been on the hunt for the best latte in town. I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be able to find a coffee place that tops what I’ve had back home, but to my surprise I found Catalina. Hands down, the best latte I’ve had(sorry Stumptown!). I also tried this one ginger tea they had. So delicious! The mochas are great as well. Very smooth and just the right amount of sweetness! The baristas are friendly and nice and will always give you suggestions if you don’t know what you want. The only negative thing I have to say is that I wish there were comfier chairs because I like to stay and read or write for an hour or so when I go. If you haven’t been here, you need to find time and go ASAP.

Considering how little I drink it, I’m the least qualified person to comment on coffee. However, I’ve been in enough coffee spots in all parts of the country to be familiar with this scene. The aroma of the coffee, the solid latte art designs, the cozy interior, and laid back vibe are pluses for sure, but Catalina still has some work to do to merit better ratings. From a first impression, this almost doesn’t feel like Houston. Hipsters are making their presence felt everywhere and they’re all up in Catalina. The café hardly screams«Texas» and I’m certain that’s by design. It’s a guaranteed oasis of caffeine that also coincides as an escape from the harsh realities of the Houston grind. Sarcasm aside, it’s a good reason to spend some time here to do as one pleases, while a one of their infamous lattes. My problem with mine was there was too much foam. I know they went in hard with the presentation, but I noted that it tasted somewhat watered down to the staff behind the counter. It was feedback at the moment, not means to get another cup. They took exception and I felt they were mildly aggravated by the comment. Another issue was the WiFi, in which the connection was timing out frequently. I noticed I wasn’t the only person experiencing difficulties surfing, as I saw the frustration amongst my laptop neighbors. Thank goodness for cell phone tethering, it was the only reason I was even able to send a few emails. It’s also entirely possible that this isn’t one of their strengths since I saw very few outlets. If there are more boutique coffee shops on the horizon, then I’m all for it. I just hope that down the line that customer service on its A game, along with a quality WiFi connection, two things that are practically requirements for a well run coffee joint.

This is a local(I think) coffee place that provides a «high end» coffee experience. I’m typically a Starbucks girl, so this was fun. I got a latte as they are known for«latte art» and wasn’t disappointed. Service was decent, I felt like they are all about the coffee, not pleasantries. My only issue is while it was a gorgeous day, everyone outside was smoking, so I didn’t enjoy that experience. They do have a nice outdoor area — have taken advantage of the space along the side of the building with greenery and crushed gravel. No gluten free pastries or otherwise, maybe if I had been there earlier in the day…

As far as cold brews go. This is the place. I only need the small-10oz size, but they also offer a 16oz size.

A small café that I’ve been meaning to check out. Glad I got the chance to come by this past weekend. Saturday morning 10am, it was bustling with eager eyed coffee lovers. The line was long but it went by quickly. You place your order and then wait until they call your name. While I waited for my coffee, I browsed a shelf of pamphlets of different events going on in Houston. I picked up a cool flyer for a Writersfest going on in February! Score. It’s cool to see coffeeshops involved with local activities going on. After I got my vanilla latte, I sat at one of the tables outside, which I happened to share it with 2 travellers from Amsterdam. How amazing it is to share conversations over good coffee with people from a different country! I appreciated the no WiFi because Catalina makes it a perfect place to mingle. It’s dimly lit on the inside anyway, so bring a friend or two here and catch up!

Coffee is good for your typical hipster coffee house. The place is always crowded. I went after church on Sunday and there was no where to sit so had to take my coffee to go. The parking also kind of sucks. My roommates are obsessed with it, i was just along for the ride.

Catalina has some of the best espresso I’ve had in town. However, seating is a little scarce at peak hours. Parking is better than many coffee shops in Westheimer, but still not easy to navigate. The only real downside is the seating– it’s hard to find a spot to have an intimate conversation OR set up to study. They have couch-like chairs, counter seating, and picnic table like seating, which place you rather close to your neighbor. Also the line is dangerously close to where people sit, which just makes my personal space feel a little violated/intrusive on others as I wait for my cappuccino. I wish I could recall exactly where they get their beans, as I would buy them in bulk if I could! Pastries are awesome, and the service is generally friendly. I would come back here more often if I was guaranteed a seat and a spot to set up my homework.

Every visit to Catalina I’m able to find parking in their spacious lot and always stand in a long line of other coffee goers. The baristas move quickly and efficiently, I’m always able to find a place to sit. While there isn’t ample seating but rather a few two person tables with short stool’s for chairs and a long bench running the parameter of half the café. My last visit I had a rather acidic black coffee that I didn’t find overly enjoyable but it did the trick of caffeinating me. What I like about Catalina is it’s easily accessible and a good meeting spot for my friends and I who live in the area.

I know I’m in the minority here but I didn’t enjoy this coffee house. As beautiful as their lattes are I thought mine tasted a little bitter. I tried their blueberry scone and it was pretty dry and not well blended. The ambience is nice. It gets very crowded and is a small space. Street parking available if the back parking lot is full. Won’t be going back here, there are better coffee shops in the neighborhood.

Coolest thing about Catalina? The building and décor. It’s a very cool, industrial space. The coffee was good, but in a city with lots of great coffee shops, the coffee wasn’t better than lots of others I’ve been to. And it’s CROWDED. We were there on a Sunday morning, and there were a bunch of men on bike shorts that were grabbing coffee before getting back on their bikes. The tables were mostly full, and there was no place to stand while waiting for our coffee! They have a decent sized parking lot, which is nice. Just due to how packed it was and how long we had to wait for our coffee(and how many other great coffee places there are in Houston), I don’t think I’ll head back for coffee at Catalina.

Inexpensive. Great service. Delicious latte. Savory treats. Good atmosphere. Compared to other boutique coffee shops, the prices here are very affordable. Moreover, the atmosphere is lovely, parking is plentiful(in the back) and the design of the shop is great. Located in the arts district, this was a lovely find, of course with Unilocal, and I’m happy to have stumbled upon this on my route. Highly recommend!

Immediately arriving here, I noticed how limited parking is. There is approximately 30 – 40 legal spaces that you can park your car. I had to wait for a car to leave in order to park and once entering I noticed how small this establishment was. The tables and seats were all occupied and there was a line to get to the counter. The cashier wasn’t very friendly. The menu was limited, but I couldn’t decide what I wanted because I don’t drink coffee too much. I ended up ordering a cappuccino and waited 10 minutes. I can’t base my rating on the coffee because I only took a sip and I’m not a coffee person. I tried adding sugar, but it was still bitter. I probably have to try more in order to get use to the taste. Overall, the atmosphere was chill, but the lack of parking spaces and seating really deterred me from this spot. I’m still on the look out for the perfect little area where I can study or read a book and enjoy a nice warm cup of coffee and friendly people assisting me.

Another great breakfast and coffee place with lovely ambiance for working and forgetting about the world. I walked in nice and early, since it is summer, and I feared work-free summer takeover of the small coffee shop. I walked in and ordered a butter croissant as well as a soy latte. I was a tiny bit disappointed that my latte did not have a cute bear on it! Oh well, I am an adult and don’t need cute images of bears in my coffee to enjoy it. The coffee was actually quite good and had just the right amount of strength to get me going in the morning. My croissant was nothing to write home about, but it fed me and that’s what matters. I think this is a great place for introverts. There are tables and benches that face a wall. This allows for one to work, read, grade papers, write, etc while staring at the wall full of neat paintings rather than being overwhelmed by people in the background ordering coffee or having a conversation you wish not to put a face to. I know I’ll be back, but be warned: it gets super busy around 9am!

Who: boyfriend & I When: Wed. afternoon Where: Sixth Ward, Washington Ave What: iced coffee($ 3/each) Fat Cat Creamery 4 oz($ 4.06 inc. tax) Total: ~$ 12(including tip) Why: For a smaller coffee shop, it does a great job of being a quick coffee stop, date spot, or workspace. That it was we saw today. I was surprised by how spacious it felt. This is partly due to the smart set up including a wall bench, small and large tables in the center, and limited outdoor seating-not to mention the high ceilings. The iced coffee was very flavorful, and while all the desserts looked to-die for, we settled for a small portion of Fat Cat Creamery’s Coffee & Cream ice cream. Also, I was pleased to see a small magazine stand with local and independent magazines for sell, including a local one called Sugar & Rice and one of my favorites, Apartamento.(Call me a hipster, but an article I read from that magazine, «Downward Travel», sort of saved my life.) Anyway, I will keep coming to Catalina to get good iced coffee, local ice cream, and the occasional magazine.
