I had a chance to visit this place last night. I’m not a big Soul food place, so I wasn’t expecting much. The service was awesome. The server had to be probably the sweetest person I met in such a long time. She was beyond polite and accommodating especially to a novice soul food eater like me.
The baked chicken was good and have great flavor. I absolutely fell in love with the peach cobbler it was a divine experience in itself. The sweet tea was extremely good, it was hardcore sweet but worth the after effects.
I also saw on the menu things such as: Chittlings, Okra, Smothered Pork Chops, and greens.
Must note: They close at 6pm so if you visit, get there early.

Bunky’s Café is back in business along with the same cook that has been there since the day it opened 27 years ago. Mr. Bunky’s family is back in there continuing the legacy he started. They are opened from 7am-​6pm Tuesday-​Saturday and Sundays 11am-​6pm, closed on Mondays. For menu over the phone call (713)747-FOOD (3663). Go by you won’t be disappointed.

What happened to this place? This place is now re-​named Jewell’s. Mr Bunky passed away 8 years ago and I guess so did his legacy of good soul food at good prices. I got what resembled a smothered chicken. The piece was so small, it would’ve made a tuesday 89cent special from popeyes look like a buffet. It was covered in some bland brown gravy that was barely covering the rice. The spinach greens were a dissapointment too. Everything just tasted blah except maybe the green beans. The prices went up too. I used to get a double meat piled high with two veggies for $ 4.95. Now I get a puny piece of meat at two veggies for $ 6. She asked me if I wanted more meat for $ 8 and I passed. They renovated the whole place with shiny tables but I miss my old hole in the wall that served good vittles at affordable prices. Which goes to show you. ITS ALL ABOUT THE FOOD. Mr. Bunky (God Rest his soul). This wouldn’t have done you justice.
