Dr Nelson has been treating me for skin cancers successfully about 3 –4 years, he is skilled and professional, and I like the way he and his staff have been caring for me. I thoroughly recommend him. Because I deal with leukemia and chemo, I am at increased risk of skin cancer. So far, he has found and removed about 4 Squammous(slow growing) and I want to stay ahead of them and melanoma. He seems very careful and methodical as we have done wide skin searches. Mac Miller

It is hard to find the words to describe how unpleasant and bizarre my short consult with Dr. Nelson was. In brief, within 5 minutes of him entering the room the nurse was apologizing for his«old school» behavior as I walked out. Dr. Nelson was rude, condescending, inappropriate, unprofessional, aggressive and managed to make me feel like both a stupid child and a lab rat at the same time. My ENT referred me for a painful and swollen area on the bridge of my nose, which Dr. Nelson pinched roughly without warning. When I flinched, he made a big deal of bringing everything to a halt, lectured me and suggested I see a «gentle lady doctor» before finally continuing. This is after I immediately apologized for flinching and assured him I wouldn’t move during the rest of his examination. At the end of the consult, Dr. Nelson literally made me repeat my diagnosis after him word-by-word to ensure my simple mind could process it, then seemed bewildered that I wouldn’t want him to treat me. The only positive things I can say are that he didn’t charge me for the consult(I think he may have surprised even himself with his rudeness) and his nurses were very nice. My wife recently required some additional surgery. Since our previous review she has experienced some problems with staff performance. Also, she arrived less than 7 minutes late in Dr. Nelson’s office for a minor early morning surgery and was admonished by Dr. Nelson as if she were a child. This was after getting up at 4:30 am to fight Houston traffic. He did not even bother to say good morning or hello before doing so. Dr. Nelson’s staff was just arriving and not even sitting at their desks to check her in when she arrived. She was also scheduled for first(earliest) surgery of the day in spite of fact that staff was aware of the travel time required due to our distance from Dr.‘s office. Our opinion of Dr. Nelson’s surgical skills has not changed. We do, however, believe he needs to address his arrogance and lack of consideration and manners. He might also wish to consider that he and his colleagues almost always keep patients waiting well beyond the appointed time. Any patient would happily wait less than 7 minutes to have his/her appointment honored. We understand that doctors’ generally believe that their time is more valuable than ours — after all, our time is their money. We now appreciate reviewer Nancy J’s experience. This was not our first bad medical experience, but it was my wife’s first-ever physician’s lecture regarding her perceived misbehavior.

I was referred to Dr. Nelson by my dermatologist after receiving the results of a skin biopsy. I found during my consult with Dr. Nelson that although he came recommended and is probably technically proficient, he is dismissive of patient’s concerns and makes it clear that he is a busy man and doesn’t have time to address trivial concerns(ie scarring, etc). Thankfully, I did a little research myself and found Dr. Paul Friedman, who I would highly recommend for this procedure, as well as for all other dermatology needs. He is patient, considerate, takes time to address concerns and extremely good at what he does. An added bonus is his wonderful staff. Each person there is a jewel. You won’t be sorry if you skip Dr. Nelson and use Dr. Friedman, and I highly recommend you do so.
