Food is good but can’t hear a damn thing it’s so loud. Everyone is yelling to be heard.

I am raising my star rating from 3 to 4. First things first: Plenty of parking, order at the front then have a seat, food is brought out to you. In the center of Oak Forest, so that’s convenient. Before food: Self serve drinks, chips and salsa. The large queso is indeed large and flavorful, though on the thin side. Meal: My husband had buy one, get one tamales. He enjoyed the beef most. I had a grilled fish taco, loved the sauce and flavor. They come in foil so it was easy to add to my to go box. We also took our queso to-go and used it next-day on homemade breakfast tacos. We might give Berry Hill a chance again after our most recent experience.

Gave me the the wrong tacos. Glad they returned my money. Second time with this. Never again. This place sucks.

This is the response I sent to John S. for his feedback to my original review and wanted to add it to my review. Wow, not sure how I feel about the undertones of snarky in your response. I know how to read and I saw the non-fried options on the menu. I enjoy tempura fried shrimp when the batter to shrimp ratio is correct, and in this case it was not. Even my server agreed they are made with too much batter. As for the refried beans maybe you should coach your staff to respond with«we do not use lard products in the restaurant.. .» instead the response I have received twice of «because the owners don’t want to offer them» In my review I stated that the third times charm because I was planning on going back, but after reading your response(and I just decided how I feel about your snarky undertone) there will not be a third time.

Terrible food, terrible service… had the fajita enchiladas. They was so small and barely edible. My husband and I did not like the food at all. The front hostess wasn’t nice either. Really wanted to like this place because it’s so close and I love Mexican food, but I will not be back.

Great food great staff! Chimichangas are delicious and the tamale sauce goes well with anything you order. The self serve salsa can sometimes be watered down, but mind that if you just order the queso and chips you won’t be disappointed. Can be pricey but it is worth it. The michelada was not the best, sometimes there’s too much zang, and sometimes it’s just too spicy with extra seasoning. I don’t understand why other reviewers are complaining about the full and self serve, just go sit down in the section and a waitress/waiter will come to you.

Seriously when you say 2 for 20 I didn’t think you meant 2 damn tacos. The salsa was watered tomatoes, the chimichanga was a corndog. When you say TexMex you may want to look around Texas and realize we like things big. And their portions made me feel like I was on a diet. No one goes to a TexMex to eat light.

Not bad for a New Mexican restaurant. The service is prompt. The food is great too. Always a busy beaver type place. I hope it stays around for much longer. Keep up the good work. You will go far if you do so.

Came here on Saturday evening instead of the Heights location because that one is always ridiculously packed. Walked right in and found a seat at the bar, the place was pretty dead. There was also plenty of parking which is always a plus! Staff was friendly, drinks were good, food was good… will be coming back the next time I’m craving the fried shrimp tacos which are hands down some of the best shrimp tacos in town!

Normally, I don’t like Berryhill. Based on my experiences in the Galleria location, it’s expensive and the food isn’t always good. However… I got their breakfast taco platter in Oak Forest this time. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was pretty good, I think they can do a good breakfast. And the service at this location is better than most of their other locations. The room is nice and big and bright, and it’s a lot better than the Berryhill in the Galleria area. I’ll probably be back. My dislike of Berryhill could be turning around…

A nice addition to the neighborhood, maybe a little on the spendy side if you’re used to more traditional TexMex places. Sunday I tried the carne guisada. I was surprised it didn’t come with tortillas but our server brought me some right away. There’s Wi-Fi and a full bar. Plenty of sports on TV. Seems to be a popular spot for families with young kids. Sure, OK. Why not?

If you are expecting to be waited on, then you might be disappointed. It was walk up, order, find a seat, then they bring your food. Chips and salsa are self serve. Silverware self serve. Service was ok at best. Food, that was another matter all together. Fajitas did not taste good. Salsa was not flavorful or spicy. Crab cakes overcooked, hard, and tuff to cut. They were almost blackened and not tender. Not very flavorful, and 12.00 for 2 crab cakes, that was way too much. No one checked on us. Drink was forgotten and we had to go back and remind them, then they had to find our drink. If I had known it was all self serve, I wouldn’t have tipped 20%.

I LOVE this place! I LOVE # Berryhill-OakForest. I especially like the eye candy manager… the HOT, tattooed Ginger! I highly recommend sitting at the bar even though anywhere is awesome! Our favorite neighborhood hang out! And… yummmmm, the tantalizing tattooed guy is so delicious to look at. Right Laura?

I haven’t wanted to try this place out due to the bad reviews that I’ve been reading since this place opened up. However, I finally went because I had a work lunch and the boss wanted to come here. Expecting the worse, I had a pretty low expectation. I’d been to Memorial City Mall Berryhill and I had an okay time over there, but mostly because I was sitting at the bar and the bartender who was there at the time was pretty cool. My experience this time around, although was not as good, but it wasn’t horrible either. To start off, this is NOT a full service restaurant. You go to place your order, you get a number, and somebody will bring your food to you. It’s kind of like going to the now closed Taco Milagro or Chaco’s except, like I said, instead of picking up your own food, they’ll bring it to your table. I’m not entirely sure why one reviewer complained about her waitress never coming to the table. Maybe at night this place turns into a full service restaurant? Who knows? I came in a group of four. Placed our order quickly. Prices are pretty high for a self service restaurant. Much more expensive than Chacho’s, but somewhat comparable to the old Taco Milagro. No problem during the ordering process and no problem with the food when they came out. It also didn’t take them too long for the food to come out. The chips and queso are not too bad. Not the best I’ve had, but definitely tasty. I ordered a large queso dip to share between four people and that was still too much. So, if you’re here by yourself or just with a friend, make sure to get the small one. Baskets of chips are located by the salsa bar along with your utensils and napkins. Just go and pick up a few baskets of chips to dip in your queso. The salsa bar is not anywhere close to what Chacho’s has to offer; Berryhill only has two types of salsa. I ordered the mixed fajita platter for myself. They give you a pretty good amount of guacamole with your platter. But looking at the amount of meat you get, it looks like you’re getting ½ lb of meat. So the price of $ 16.99 is getting pretty close to Lupe Tortilla. That’s borderline high. The fajitas didn’t taste too bad, but for the price, I’d rather pay a little bit more and go to Lupe, Pappasito’s, or even Los Cucos. Not sure if I’ll be here too often. Like I said, the prices are a bit on the high side for the lunch crowd(or at least for me), but since Berryhill is a franchise, I can’t really fault this particular location for the pricing. It is what it is. The restaurant did exceed my expectation, but then again as I mentioned before, my expectation was pretty low.

Had been watching the opening and it finally happened. Before our visit here we’d gone to Berryhill ’ s on post oak and San Felipe for our Mr first Berryhill visit. My wife had visited several in the past and the food was too spicy. She acquiesced to come due to my work obligation and loved it. So we were really looking forward to this Berryhill opening. We stopped in on a Friday night which at the other location has a happy hour. This location did not. It was very busy but that’s always the case with new places. 4 tacos and two beers = $ 40.00. Happy hour craft draft for $ 7.50??? Beef taco inedible due to toughness. Fish and shrimp tacos were good enough. The largest drawback though of this place was the NOISE. We were sitting at the bar but the acoustics here are so poor that we couldn’t even talk to one another. We might give it another try but why? We can get over priced beer and ok food everywhere in the area.

The restaurant is very new to the Oak Forest Garden Oaks area. For weeks my family and I would pass by and my twins would get excited wanting to know when we can actually go into this restaurant. When the store finally opened we were so excited we went in and I ordered beef nachos. I explain to my family that beef nachos were tough and after a few bites took the order back up and explained the problem to the manager. I asked the manager if I could simply change out my beef nachos for chicken nachos because the beef was too tough. He said«If I did this for everybody I’d be losing money». He did not change my order. Bring back the old Exxon station. They treated us much better!!!

First visit, a little disappointed. Early lunch, not busy at all so the waitress has no excuse for failing to be attentive. There were no napkins on the table. Other servers brought our meal yet no one thought to bring the silverware. We had to leave the table to get the silverware and napkins ourselves. No one came to remove plates from the table nor to bring the check so… we assumed we must pay at the counter. THEN the waitress cut us off, lol. Little girl, Tuesdays lunch hour? Assume that guests don’t have time to waste. Be attentive! Tips are earned! Food? The Corn Pablano Chowder Soup was delicious, worth it and a 5-Star BUT the«Award Winning» fish taco was raw and bland. Still, first vist, so I’m willing to give it other chances. There’s more on the menu!

A long-time fan of Berryhilll, I was glad to try this new location less than a mile from home today for lunch. So, I almost always just order the fried fish tacos whenever I go to any Berryhill(which has been for about the last 9 or so years), but today I branched out and tried the seafood chimichanga, which comes with same special sauce that is on the fish tacos. The chimichanga was fresh and tasty, and even better with the special sauce. It was accompanied by rice and black beans, also delicious. My daughter had the fried fish and said it was good, like what we were accustomed to at other Berryhills, perhaps a bit more oily, though. Service was friendly and fast. we got there about 11:30am. The food was brought to our table within 5 minutes of ordering. The chips-and-salsa bar doesn’t have the creamy cilantro dip, so I ordered some for $ 0.54, which was actually way more than enough for the two of us. Though not thrilled with having to pay for it separately, I noticed it tasted better than the one served at the bars of other Berryhills. It tasted more cilantro-y; by comparison, the others tasted more diluted, I think. The décor was fun, casual, comfortable. Looking forward to returning soon!

Checking out the new addition to the ‘hood. I have special place in my heart for these Berryhill tacos as that was one of my first meals when I moved to Houston. And the crack sauce… oops, I mean the cilantro ranch sauce owns my souls. So I started off by giving it with 5 stars. This new location has ample free parking, a nice exterior and interior, and the fish tacos are as yummy as the other locations In my opinion. The shrimp quesadilla is also quite good. The servers are also friendly although it was apparent to me they are still trying to get their groove(expected for a new restaurant — so no stars deducted for that). That being said, this is the only Berryhill I have been too with table service. Nice. The reasons why I deducted stars were for: 1) They charge $.70 for the cilantro ranch(but charged only $.50 on our bill??) when other places give it out for free; 2) They don’t have the free soft serve that other locations have(not too bad since my favorite froyo place is across the street; 3) Lone star is $ 4! Yikes! 4) The AC did not seem to be on during our visit — hope that is not the case if we visit in the summer; 5) My beef quesadilla tasted a bit gamey. Not sure if that was just mine or not; and 6) The cilantro ranch sauce I was served was thicker than I am accustom to — maybe it was because we came at the end of the night(see accompanying photo — my chip is standing up!)? Not sure. All and all it is nice to have some new blood in the neighborhood! I am sure I will be back and I hope I can update my review and add some stars. This review is based on my personal experience and all statements made herein reflect my personal opinion only. Your experience may be completely different.

We’ve been waiting nearly two years for this new Berryhill location to open in the Oak Forest neighborhood and down the street from our house. Apparently, the project was greatly delayed by permitting problems or something, but finally, it’s here! Today is the grand opening and my wife, daughter and I went in for lunch. Unlike other Berryhills I’ve been to, this one has both counter service and table service options. We had some time to kill, so we chose table service and sat by the bar. The atmosphere is very pleasant… the dining room is spacious and the bar has a huge bank of flat screens. I remember thinking that Berryhill will be a great place to catch a game and sit at the bar. I can’t wait to try the margaritas! Although we didn’t venture there, the decking and outdoor areas look like they will be great when waiting on a table or even for bands to play. The food was delicious… the complimentary chips were tasty and the salsa was very fresh and well apportioned. We ordered queso dip as an appetizer and loved the buttery taste complimenting the cheese. Very rich and perfect when matched with the fresh salsa. For our meal, my wife and I shared the chipotle shrimp quesadilla and two of the famous original fish tacos. Both were delicious… the quesadillas had a perfectly spiced, smoky taste and the tempura-esque batter on the fish was just crispy enough. Everything was fresh and prepared exactly right. The service was good, you could tell that they were working out a few first day kinks, but had everything surprisingly under control. The servers use a handheld pad device to take orders and also to process your credit card. I like this feature… the credit card never leaves the table therefore reducing the risk for stolen card numbers. Since I was here for lunch during work hours, I didn’t try the margaritas… so I can only hope they will be a good as they asre at the Heights location when I do get around to trying them. BOTTOMLINE: A great addition to the GOOF. Everything was perfect here on the first day, lets hope they keep it up!
