I love a good hamburger. Good hamburger, good BBQ, good beer, these are the things I quest for like the fountain of youth. Becks Prime has turned up on multiple lists for best burger in Houston, so of course I had to check it out. The Grub: It’s a good burger. It was cooked the way I asked. The toppings seemed fresh and of good quality. The bun was even good. And yet. And yet. It was just OK. How can so many good ingredients add up to just an OK burger? I’m not exactly sure, but I suspect it begins and ends with the meat. It’s a great quality of beef, no doubt, but I believe it to be under-flavored. Just like when you make a burger at home, good quality meat is just the beginning. You also need to have a knack for the proper balance of salt, pepper, and other seasoning. Becks approach might work you but for me it was a little flat. The Little Things: No arguments here. The place was clean, the staff was friendly and quick. Just keep in mind, everything is tiny. There are only a handful of tables and the parking lot is a postage stamp. That said, there’s plenty of street parking around and you can always get your order to go, either from the counter or at the drive through. The Wrap: So how does one of the best burger places in Houston come away with just an OK review? As I said above it’s partly a matter of preference of how you like your meat seasoned. I also suspect that I may have come in with too high of expectations. Maybe if I had just stopped in at random I would have walked away more impressed. It’s hard to say.

I finally tried Beck’s Prime tonight, and I’ve got to say, I just don’t understand the hype! The drive through is nice and the service was excellent, but the burger itself was not good. I hardly ever eat cheeseburgers, but when I do I like them restaurant style/homestyle. I like a thick burger, I want to be asked how I want it cooked, and I like it juicy with some pink in the middle. This one looked promising at first glance! Thick, light pink in the center, but everything was wrong! I couldn’t even taste the meat through the salt and the grease! The bottom bun was soaked and disintegrated within 3 minutes! Seriously though, nothing but salt and grease. The fries were fine I guess. I was hoping this place could be my go to for the occasional old fashioned cheeseburger, but I plan on never coming back! What a waste of 15 bucks! I don’t know what the other food is like, but the burgers are really just not good. I am home with a stomach ache from eating half.

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with cheddar cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and onion. It was delicious! The burger was big, juicy and packed with flavor. I usually get the ahi tuna salad when I go, but I was reminded how good their burgers are. I give this location three stars because the cashier wasn’t very friendly. He just kind of gave me my food without a smile. Service is major for me.(BTW: later on my stomach started hurting but that’s probably because I ate a burger which is not something I usually eat)

Becks is a solid place if you’re looking for a good ol burger, fries, or salad. It’s pretty pricey– dinner here is about the same as it would be on a nice date, but the food is high quality. Definitely not as quick as traditional«fast food”– expect to wait a little while. The Kirby salad is great if you’re looking for a lighter option, and the french fries are always a win.

We had our son’s rehearsal dinner here. I know, it’s a bit casual for that, but we had a long list of what we wanted, and Beck’s had it all. Inner loop location, possibility of nice outdoor area, casual, flexibility for seating(not a sit-down dinner), option to do something besides sit around waiting for food to arrive(we had a big room and played games. Driving range was an option too). The service there was fantastic, everyone loved the food. They put the bbq pit outside under a tree and set up the side dishes buffet style with a wine/beer bar on the patio. We had surprisingly good feedback from all the guests and most importantly, from the bride and groom. I wish I had known it was not«all you can eat» but let’s face it, rehearsal dinners are expensive. I’ve been back since, and the renovations are very nice.

Not a big fan of this place. I heard they use MSG in their burgers(I heard afterward). I just felt so sluggish afterwards. It wasn’t terrible, but not worth going back for a second visit. I wish this place was better because its so close to me, but I just can’t see myself going back.

We were a little worried about the place when we pulled in. It’s a tiny little joint with a drive thru but the décor was so… boring. We were skeptical about paying $ 10 – 12 for a burger and fries. Boy were we wrong! The burger was melt in your mouth tender. You can tell they hand grind all of their beef. My alpine chicken sandwich was THE best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. The sauce, onions and tender chicken married beautifully into a sandwich with a thick whole wheat bun. Share an order of fries and get yourself a house shake. You won’t regret it.

As an ex-cia agent, when you have a witness under protective custody demanding some high quality beef as take out, this is the place to go. M, F and I recently had a big job that required watching somebody under«protective custody». This chumba-wumba demanded some beef in his cancer producing intestinal system; the only takeout that we could mutually agree on was Becks. It did the trick. A half-pound of beef quieted him up awful quick.

This location is as solid as the others. Becks Prime offers fantastic well made burgers and salads among other tasty treats. Their burgers are a decent size but beyond that, the draw is that they focus on great fresh ingredients and you can tell with each bite. Great meat quality, freshly baked buns and crisp veggies make for a great all around burger. Similar can be said about their salads. If you’re not looking to stuff yourself silly with a burger, I’d suggest the queen of hearts salad with seared ahi tuna added in. It’s a large portion and the heart of palms and tuna will fill you up without that hate yourself feeling afterwards. Like all Becks Prime, they have a great shaded patio to enjoy a nice day while grubbing. This location is nestled next to upper Kirby and near River Oaks, which makes for some great people watching. Drop by for a bite and I’m sure you’ll be easily converted to this mainstay Houston chain.

Best. Sandwich. Ever… I ordered the Pork Banh Mi. I thought it was going to be traditional but it came it out as a sandwich on a sesame bun. I was disappointed when I saw it… Then I tried it! Holy shizzle!!! It was amazing. Don’t miss this chance.

YUM! Best burgers and salads in town! If you want to be healthy try the Queen of Hearts salad or Robert’s Chicken & veggies, or if you want to indulge try and of the burgers with all sorts of toppings. Their fries are the best!

While the drive-through led me to believe Becks is a fast-food joint, Becks’ prices, quality and wait time make it River Oaks’ version of fast food – with delicious burgers. The classic burgers and fries are very good – juicy(but not too greasy) and served with nicer buns(maybe potato buns), their burgers are delish. After you order at the counter, they give you a buzzer, and my food took about 10 minutes to come out. The prices are a little steep: for a regular burger, a side of fries and a kids meal, our total came out to $ 22.

I tried this location on Upper Kirby, and was pleasantly surprised. It seemed a more comfortable place — probably because of the area it’s in – and the staff was much friendlier than the one in Meyerland. Maybe I was hungry, but the burgers we got were really good. Good grill char and taste, cooked to a medium, and well-seasoned. The condiments just accentuated the overall good taste. This location would compare well with Fuddruckers.

The burger was ama… wait for it… zing. Burgers are wood-fire grilled. I had the chili cheese burger specifically, and it did not disappoint. The indoor dining space is a little crowded, but there is outdoor seating as well. I prefer to stay indoors in Houston in August. Some might consider the prices steep for ‘fast food’ but these burgers are done right and worth the cost imho. The fries? The fries were tasty, and remind me of fries from the County Fair back home, so I might have some bias.

I have been here at least a dozen times and I have never been disappointed. Of all the places I take my dog, I believe the drive through here is her favourite. Her nose sticks up in the air reaching for every last scent of the cooking burgers. I always get the Bubba Burger. It has cheese, sauce, onions and tomatoes. There are a lot of other burgers with more on them, but I believe these burgers do not need embellishment. I would argue these are the best burgers in Houston. They are grilled perfectly, and have a wonderful charcoal flavour. Pair one with the sweet potato fries and you can’t go wrong. These burgers are pricey, but I believe they are worth it. I always get my dog one of their kid’s cheeseburgers, and she definitely agrees.

I like the blue cheese burger. Nice thick patty, fresh bun, fresh toppings. I like to add bacon — they give nice thick slices. Good fries. Definitely a place to go for an a-typical fast food experience.

First off this place is ways overpriced for what it is, I get that a lot of people love the burgers there but I personally thought that I could have gone to smash burger and gotten the same quality burger for a fraction of the price. The girl that took my order was very unpleasant too, it almost seemed like she didn’t want to be there, she was mumbling my order so I had to ask her to repeat it at which point she sighed and then someone else came over to apologize and to let me know she was in training so as far as customer service goes I would give it a big fat 0!!! I will definitely never come back here!

Decent burger and fries. I had the bacon cheeseburger and they cooked it to medium. It’s juicy. Both the sweet potato and Idaho fries are fine. My husband ordered the ribeye sandwich. Asked for medium rare and got well done. Not a lot of flavor but the meat was tender enough to bite through since they left it whole. Sandwich was on a hamburger bun(disappointing). They serve beers and small selection of low end single serve bottle wines.

Great burger. Smokey flavor. Grilled onions. Real cheese. Crispy bacon. What’s not to love. The hand cut fries were fantastic. The queso was very good. Salsa was a little on the hot side. I loved it, but others at the table thought it was too hot. One person at our table got the grilled chicken salad, loaded with pecans and cranberries. They said it was delicious. I tried a bite of the chicken and it had a nice smokey flavor. Based on the amount of juice running out of my burger, this might not be a good«to go» meal. Can’t wait to come back and try another burger.

I stopped here for lunch when I was craving a solid burger, and was not disappointed! The BP burger is simple and delicious, and definitely satisfied my cravings. It is a little pricey(around $ 8, I think), but paired wonderfully with a beer and made for a relaxing late Friday lunch.

^^^ You must try the heavenly shakes; but may I suggest the dessert portion. The burgers are delicious: hearty in size and offered with interesting toppings(sautéed onions & mushrooms, several cheeses, chili, prime sauce, avocado). Sweet potato fries are also available. Other sandwiches(chicken, tuna & pork) are available if you feel like mixing it up. I admit it is a bit pricey but quality is worth the premium. An institution since the 80’s. If you are in a rush, their two drive-thru lanes are efficient. Beck’s Prime steht seit 1985 offen. Falls Sie Eile haben, gibt’s schnelle Autoservice.
