I wish I coul give this 0 stars — this place is god awful! I know at any club you go to there is going to be a dress code … keep this in mind. EVERYSINGLEONEOFMYFRIENDS were dress up to code! nice dress, button up shirts, slacks dress shoes, heels the works! the group of ppl in front of us had SUMMERCLOTHESON aka. sandals, jeans, shorts, casual tee … SEOMTHINGTHATISNOTFORTHENIGHTLIFE we get up to the line and he said ok … the 4 of you can come in but the rest cannot … and he kept giving bullshit excuses such as. «its my decision, we have a selective dress code tonight» after 30 – 40 minutes of aruging with the STUPIDDOORMAN that kept calling himself the manager, we finally got a real manager. AYEDIOSMIO! needless to say he was a total douche … when we finally got into the club I KIDYOUNOT !!! i saw at least HALF of the club FILLLLED with«selective dress code» jeans and sandals, nice dress with sandals, I MEANCOMEIN! there were dudes in REGULAR tees and NONDRESSSHOES!!!

Continuing the party celebration at this very modern place, love the atmosphere and ambiance as well as the music. Drinks are good as well!

Bad experience with that club the two guys in the front wont let u in if you dont bribe them they will tell you ahh you should have a dress code but if you take care of me with a $ 20 cash you get in and then afterwards the lady in the register charges $ 10 or $ 20 depends if it s crowded or not that is a lil bit of hustle but it is normal to pay a cover which is completely fine with me.

Dress code at the door! So have that shirt tucked in. And one you get in, you can be like everyone else and untuck your shirt. Seriously! The place has a slow start on a Saturday, but does end up having a pretty good crowd. The dance floor is pretty hard to get to(you have to go all the way around and enter near the stage). Which is ok. until the place is packed. Then you are walking across the entire place holding shots for your friends and trying to avoid bumping into people. Really not fun. And oh. by the end of the night, its a slippery mess. Book a table if possible.

Had the best time here last night for poetry night. My first time attending and they make you feel so at home. The poets were great. The atmosphere was so chill. I just loved the vibe. A few things to improve on would be to clean up the patio, it rained so I see why it was a mess and to get another bartender because they totally worked my man half to death last night. He was on it though! Also, bathrooms were gross, well the ladies anyway! Will be back soon!

What a review I have for you about having a good time at Bambou I don’t know about during the week, never been here cept on Sundays which is all the way live– I consider it prime time to chill awhile before heading back to the Monday grind and yep that did rhyme – but I’ll finish the rest of the review free verse style! Nice area of town with plenty of free parking is always a winner. Whether you park on the street, in the shopping center, or get here early enough to park in the garage, plenty of lighting and a elevator makes this location not only safe, but single woman and handicap friendly! Once inside, you’re first thought is, «Wow, this place is small,» but there are quite a few couches and ottomans to sit on. Only problem is that there are not a lot of places open on Sunday, so my assumption is that people flock here and it gets packed! Even though the doors open at 6PM, by 630, all the seating is gone, so don’t wear you cute shoes ladies it you can’t wear them but 10 minutes! In all honesty, if you have a seat, you won’t have a good view once it gets packed, so standing is actually a better option. Décor is an modern open space plan with a glass partition that separates the main area from the VIP area. Warm colors and white couches give it a sexy but laid back atmosphere, which fits this area of town. Hence the dress code being pretty non existent – as long as you have your $ 10 cover! Restroom is always clean and nicely decorated – just a little too dark in color as Renia L stated in her review of the place. Stalls and fixtures are about the same color. Without vanity lights, it’s pretty dark inside there. There is staircase, but I don’t know where it leads to or what’s up there. If you find out, let me know! There are two bars, but only one is open. Plus, there was only one waitress for the entire lounge. Either have two bars open and one wait/er/ress or two wait/er/ress and one bar open to accommodate crowd. I thought about ordering something once or twice, but seeing how busy the bar and waitress were turned me off each time, If you like old school music with a mix of new, you’ll like DJ Supastar on the 1’s and 2’s. Love her variety and smooth transitions to other joints that make you guilty of doing the snake, cabbage patch, or the stanky leg on a Sunday after church. It’s okay – just blame it on the alcohol! At 730, the featured presentation kicks off. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear the unofficial Poet Laurette of Houston, Seven, perform one of his pieces, if not, there are usually some novice poets who perform on a regular basis sprinkled in with the«virgins» to the mic and other volunteers. A good mix of poets and singers to make it an entertaining evening. There is usually an intermission as well – a time ti get another drink, go to the bathroom, and dance a little before the next set of performers get on stage. By the way, if you want to perform a piece, be there by 630 no later than 7 to meet with the host. Highly suggested to come on Sunday to kick off one’s work week. If you have facebook, like the Poetry Lounge page at .

Love the different variety of poets. Very nice setting and atmosphere. Only negatives is the seating is horrible. You have to get there very early to get a seat. The drinks are not worth the price.

Good music on Saturdays(if you like Spanish rock) drinks a bit pricey, pet peeve… Every single table is «reserved» so no place to sit… funny though, half were still empty at the end of the night!!!

I preface this review by stating that I NEVER go to night clubs. My bedtime is 10pm Monday-Sunday so this late night party atmosphere was new to me. I know this is going to age me but with all the violence these days I almost fear environments where people are in close quarters and alcohol is being served but this crowd was very low-key and cool. For starters this place is located in Rice Village right next to the gap(or above it) and we found parking with ease upon our arrival around 11pm. There was no cover, 25+ only and a strict dress code. I assume this is how you keep it «classy» and«Safe» in 2013. The elevators were out of order so we had to take the steps. Not so easy in high heels and a little dress but I made it to the top. There was no cover and 2 lines, one for VIP reserved table and the other line for the peasants. I am KIDDING. the only reason I was able to skip the line was because I have VIP friends. I am a peasant for sure. The only qualm was the price of the damn drinks. I paid $ 8 dollars for a little drink with very little alcohol. I wanted a bottle so bad simply because they come out with a sparkler attached to them! SOOCOOL!!! The DJ was GREAT on this Saturday night and it wasn’t too crowded, we did get there at 11pm and I am sure the real clubbers had moved on to spot #2 by this point. I would totally visit this place again but would drink before I got there!

I have only been to BAMBOU for the Sunday night Poetry Lounge. The space is sizeable enough and has two bars.(of which only one is open on Sun.) The little loveseat couches are nice to sit. I don’t know if they are open to sit without being VIP on Fri. and Sat. night or not. But sunday nights they are. The restrooms are DARK as hell ! ! LOL But, clean, enough ! The poets were OK… a few were not true poets, but sex writers. LOL who get called out by the«TRUE» poets. But, whateves… As for the club itself… Not bad. They have a VIP sectioned that is closed off. I always see an upstairs area, but not sure what it is up there. They have a patio. I haven’t been out there yet… but soon enough I shall check out BAMBOU on Friday night. From what I have seen on Sunday nights… I think the Friday night scene may be pretty chill. Oh, and the female DJ they have on Sunday nights… DABOMB ! !

I had a terrible experience at this bar. Let me preface this review with the fact that I was there for a comedy show before the bar was really open for the night. I went there on a Friday night to see a comedy show. Upon arriving, everyone seemed nice enough… we gave the ladies at the front our tickets and found our seats. The bartender was great and made great drinks and the comedy show was fun and entertaining(minus the women behind us who would NOT stop yapping away and harassing the comedians… but thats besides the point). My friend and I happened to know a few of the comedians we we were hanging out with them, enjoying a few drinks in the area that had been set aside for them. Things were great until someone came up to us and said, «You all are going to have to leave before our ‘regular’ crowd shows up». The last time I checked, these comedians are the reason that we all paid money to come to this bar and are boosting their business by buying drinks at a time when they normally don’t have patrons. At this point my friend and I closed are tabs with one of the bartenders. Right after doing so, the bartender who had been making our drinks walked up ready to make us another(because he was great and remembered what we were drinking). He seemed really confused when we told him we closed our tabs and asked us why we were leaving. I told him something a little smart to the effect of, «apparently our money isn’t as good as that of the „regulars’“ and we were asked to leave» He immediately asked who said that and seemed really upset, but by that time we were out of there and on to the next bar. The funnier thing was that as we were leaving the bar, the bouncer and manager asked us the same thing, why we were leaving so early and said that the comment didn’t apply to us, just to the guys we were hanging with… the comedians who brought all this extra business… Whatever. I won’t be coming back here. If this is how they treat the people that make them money, they don’t deserve mine.

I was with a group that had bottle service and they still charged me cover. It was supposed to be latin night though the DJ played anything but. When he did play latin there were plenty of people on the dance floor but since it wasn’t his kind of music he always changed to house and cleared out the floor. To me the sign of a good DJ is that he can get people on the dance floor and keep them there. When I went it was the opposite, he seemed determined to have a clear floor. Bad service, bad DJs. Go somewhere else.

**valet parking is mandatory** $ 10 Or park downstairs for free & walk up It’s been a long time since I’ve been clubbing. Last time I was here was about 2 years ago. It was Latin/mix night I believe. It still is a Latin mixture in music. The place still looks nice and very cold at first when you enter. But once your on the dance floor it’s like a sauna. If you remember Club Venue(that was on main street) with the live band they had on Saturdays. They have a live band too that plays house & oldies songs. Only thing is there will be repeat of the songs from the DJ spinning earlier. I believe the band comes on 11:30 or midnight . I believe there is cover charge, but I was with a group with bottle service. Overall I had fun with my friends. It wasn’t too crazy or over crowded.

I actually had a really good time at this place a couple of weeks back. Now, I have to say that I am not really the type of person you’d find at a club every week, I don’t like clubs but I do enjoy awesome music. With that said, I think the DJ as well as their live band were on point playing all that Latin music. I danced so much, my feet started to hurt pretty early in the night. The drinks were average, nothing special about them. There was no cover for women that night, but I do believe there is normally a cover there. The place was crowded, but not overly so. There was still enough space for dancing and although the dance floor is super small, everyone just seemed to be having a good old time. The bouncers were nice and security was pretty tight. There was a security person on each side of the dance floor, another close to the bar and I believe there was another one by the door to the balcony(I never went out there, but I think that’s what it was). I am a firm believer that your company is the determinant of a good time. I personally had a awesome one thanks to the the great company I was in, the great music that was playing and the safe environment Bam Bou created. Enjoy!

So I’d say I’ve been to Bam Bou once or twice… or three times. I can’t remember. The last time I went for a evening out with some girls I didn’t enjoy myself at all. It could have been cool, given it was free entrance for those on the guestlist and the setup of the place is nice. I just hated the DJ and there’s no getting around that one. Also, there were a whole bunch of random professional athletes that I’d never heard of and a lot of ladies who were trying to get chose by them. Not the makings of a fun evening for me. Anyways, I more recently attended their«Poetry Lounge» Sunday and I must say it easily deserves five stars. Seriously good poets, an amazing DJ, great MCing and a very nice grown and sexy crowd. I was definitely feeling the vibe and I more than enjoyed my evening out. It was probably one of the best nights out that I’ve had in Houston. The ambiance was very classy yet down to earth. the MC «Se7en» the poet, was dope. very funny dude. And the music was amazing. It was just overall a good evening. I definitely recommend it and hope to revisit again soon!

I was shocked this place was still open. It’s always off during the week and it’s barely alive on the weekend. It was a night out with some friends and we were bar hopping throughout rice village and one of my friends wanted to dance instead of just drinking, so we opted to see if Bambou was still open, it was… but barely. Only about 20 people were inside. Instead of being a dance club, no one was on the dance floor and it turned into an overpriced bar. They did have go-go dancers, which was just strange because no one else was dancing so either you were a creeper staring or just bored.
