I went with the shrimp po boy with hush puppies and potato salad. Wow… what a great sandwich!!! The bread was deliciously toasted… crunchy on the outside and just right on the inside… it was topped with fresh lettuce and sliced cherry tomatoes. The po boy had me at the first bite… perfectly seasoned fresh fried shrimp that actually tasted like shrimp and a wonderful sauce… the potato salad was solid(not as good as my wife’s… but none are that good!) hush puppies were good and fresh; overall it was a great experience. Good service, cool atmosphere, and a good meal… I will be coming back.

Mixed feelings, I miss the original antones menu; it’s not like smoked turkey is exotic, but alas. So tend to order from the hot food menu, and usually they’re good to okay, today it was just okay but they were seriously scant with the roast beef, 90% bread and vegetables, maybe 2 slices of roast beef on the entire sandwich. To be fair it was a good sandwich but they could work on their portion sizes, clearly cutting corners and being cheap. I really should have complained; did the same thing with my buddy’s oyster poboy. Hows $ 22 for a bunch of bread sound to you?

Still as good as over 40 years ago when I tasted my first Antones original Po’boy! The original location is gone, but we visited a newer location and had great and quick service

I am giving this place a 4 for their sandwiches. I have had their salads, which deserve 2 stars. However, I have been here a few times, and they are really known for their sandwiches, not their salads, so I have adjusted the rating accordingly. Good po-boys! Fairly quick service. Recommended.

Beware of the mayo queen at lunch time. She will give you a soggy mayo dripping original. Ask for ez mayo and thank me later.

The grilled chicken sandwich was great, and my boyfriend loved his New Orleans roast beef po boy. We had hummus as a side and it was great! We’ll definitely be back.

I’m suprised Antone’s only has 3.5 stars. I’ve consistently had good food here and the service is fast and friendly. They have a wide variety of sandwiches. I usually stick with their classics such as turkey or their club. I’ve been told their po-boys are delicious and their fries are as well. They are known for their chow chow sauce and you can purchase that in a jar if you really love it. Fountain drinks, chips as a side unless you are getting their po-boys you have the option of french fries. It’s a little expensive for sandwiches, but you’ll have a better dining experience here than say Subway. Try it if you haven’t already!

Yum! Amazing relish on their original. I hadn’t been there since I was a kid and it still tastes just as wonderful as it did 25 years ago!

Food is terrific, but service is terrible! We got here at 15 minutes till closing(7pm on Friday night) and were told we could only get To go orders– that we could not eat in the restaurant! They already had the restaurant shut down and were ready to go home! The people behind us had a baby and were told the same thing! Next time I’ll go to Jimmy Johns!

The fried oyster po boy is delicious. The bread was hard on the outside, but soft on the inside. The oyster batter was light, but still crispy. It’s a casual deli like restaurant so good for lunch. The food came out pretty quick so no wait.

Terrible fried shrimp po boy. The bread was incredibly hard and chewy. The amount of fried shrimp barely covered half the sandwich, which is a shame since it actually had a nice taste. Both the potato salad and hush puppies it came with were soggy and plain.

I always enjoy the CRISPYCHICKENCLUB! That’s a 5 star sandwich that you cannot recreate at home! I usually get it to-go because it’s waay too much food to eat in one sitting. This location is convenient, and I hope they open more locations around central Houston area!

Decent and cheap. Good taste, but not a lot of selections. You’re probably getting a po boy if you come here…

The super original po’ boy is out of this world my book. My wife had the combo seafood platter which came a fried shrimp, fried catfish, and fried oysters along with hushpuppies, fries and coleslaw for $ 9.99. Good amount of food with a great price. I also tried their gumbo under the Homemade Stuff. I wasn’t pleased at all its very watery and has an odd taste to it. Other than that I recommend this Antone’s location over any other. No WiFi though but there is a Starbucks right next door and you can siphon of their connection. :-)

The shrimp po’ boy is excellent. Really great bread, freshly fried shrimp, tasty sauces. I found one sandwich enough for two people for a good lunch, with one bag of Louisiana’s excellent Zappo’s chips. It’s one of the better sandwiches I’ve had in Houston(Local Food’s crunchy chicken is still the best, though). I have no idea whether Antone’s had some golden age in the past, as some Unilocalers believe. What I know is that it’s still tasty now.

What an excellent place to eat after shopping around(unsuccessfully) for some furniture. We were eating a late lunch and we were hungry, so we saw Antone’s. We are glad we came. The bread is fresh, crusty, lots of holes. We are so glad that we get this kind of ciabatta bread rather than the tasteless french rolls at other sandwich shops. I had the french dip, and my wife had the roast beef. The fresh ciabatta bread made it perfect for dipping it into the au jus. Combined with the delicious french fries, this place is pretty good. My only desire is that they would pack more meat into the sandwich. I mean, really stuff it. Otherwise, a great place for value and taste. Next time I will be trying the po’ boys sandwich — catfish!

After seeing the pictures of the shrimp Po Boy, I decided I’d pick something other than seafood(sorry but I want to have good portions) and went with the Hot Roast Beef, New Orleans Style, which means it’s topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, chow chow, and mayo. What can I say, the bread was amazing with a good crust and held up well without being too thick or dense. The sliced beef was still pink even though it was heated up for the sandwich — and when all the chow chow and mayo came together with all the meat juices and everything else, sold. I thought I might be missing out on something good in the fried seafood so I went with the catfish platter on my next visit — you might miss the bread but there’s plenty of fries still.

Antone’s is the stuff of my childhood and Chow Chow was my drug! But it has changed over time and now they serve hot poboys and other items like french fries. When I went recently, the place was pretty dead. It seems to be a guy restaurant, as I was the only female in the whole place and almost every guy was by himself. I ordered a fried shrimp poboy which was adequate but not great. The french fries were pretty yummy though. Good crisped bread, definitely a plus. The quick time from order to food makes this place an ideal spot for a super quick lunch. I can’t see anything dragging me back here but convenience.
