Today was the third time I’ve came to Añejo. Primarily because their HH prices are great for some yummy drinks. However, today our waitress was beyond horrible. Not only did she ignore us time and time again and we had to bother other waiters; but she ignored us flat out while my bf was waiving her down right in front of her. She completely went around out table, and attended another behind us. When she finally decided to come to our table and take our order it took about 30min. to get another round for the table(meanwhile she brought two to the table behind us). I’ll definitely come again as long as I do not receive the horrible service I got today. FYI: management our waitress was a girl with blonde pigtails, oversized glasses, and a mediocre personality.

Amazing food and service! They have a new chef; the other night we ordered a lobster and the steak special. The lobster was amazing and the streak out of this world! It was topped with some kind of cheese and a sauce with tortilla strips. OMG!!! Probably one the best steaks I’ve ever had! And I’ve had a lot of great steaks! I was very impressed. The staff is super friendly and they have an extensive tequila and wine list. An extra bonus is the comfortable patio with live music and tv’s!

This place can get a little pricey but their fajita special plate(that comes with shrimp, chicken, beef, chorizo, etc) is phenomenal. The beef is my personal favorite. Queso is awesome too with a fun presentation, I prefer white over yellow queso so this may just be personal preference. Drinks great as well, they have a nice patio and do a good happy hour.

Absolutely love the patio especially when the weather is nice! Let’s start by saying I come for the margaritas & wine(on occasion). Don’t be discouraged by the pricing, it is a fine dining Tex-Mex restaurant. The food is presented in a fancy manner, so if you live your hole in wall Tex-Mex joint this this place may not be your cup of tea. I have been here in multiple occasions & have always enjoyed my food. The fajitas are pretty good! I love the shrimp tacos. They have Happy Hour seven days a week from opening til 6pm… that’s definitely a WIN

This was one of the most disappointing meals I have had in recent memories. I chose the snapper enchiladas and the spinach side dish. This enchiladas barely had any fish and the thickest tortilla I have ever eaten with little if any sauce. The waiter was very proud of the fact that they made these tortillas to order, a fact that seemed odd to be proud of in Houston unless your competition is Taco Bell. The service was very poor overall even though there were as many as five people wandering around our table including a manager who just seemed to stare at everyone. I am still waiting for my margarita which never came. At $ 26 for enchiladas and $ 80 per person overall one might expect a decent meal — Not Here! I be going back to Hugo’s or El Tiempo where the food is good. P. S. The rice and beans were cold — come on guys, seriously!

This was my first time going to Anejo, it was for a company function so I didn’t have to pay but I can give an honest review. We had the venison tamales, bacon wrapped shrimp, and the guacamole for appetizer. The shrimp was ok, nothing to write home about. The tamales were just fantastic as well as the guacamole, to be honest the guacamole was some of the best I’ve ever had. For dinner I have the beef fajitas. It looks like they actually slice steak but it was really good. For the price of everything I wouldn’t go there and pay with my own money. If I was paying for myself it would have been over $ 100 between dinner and 1 appetizer and one of my drinks.

nice atmosphere and friendly wait staff but oh the food. we knew it was going to be expensive but we expected a wow factor. that did not happen. salsa was bland not a hint of pepper in it. homemade thick chips. the chicken enchilladas(2 for $ 21) were so overpriced considering you had to hunt for the chicken in them. even worse were the snapper enchiladas(2 for $ 26) where there was more spinach than fish in them. will not be back

Great service and atmosphere. I had the lobster tacos which were delicious. I have had Fried lobster where you can’t taste the lobster. This was fresh and tasty. The queso was different but tasty. I can’t drink right now but I tasted a sip of. A frozen margarita and it was good! I would come back. It’s a little pricey but worth it for a nice dinner. Good alternative to a steak house and you don’t feel sick full after.

So far, this is my favorite restaurant in Houston, and I’ve been to A LOT. The service is excellent(although may be a little too talkative for a date night, but I’m sure they’d get the hint if you wanted to have quiet time), the food is AMAZING and the drinks are on par. They obviously take pride in their food and establishment, which is refreshing. It is expensive, and I wish I could come more often, but I’m not going to fault them for that since the food is worth every penny. We went one time for lunch with our two-year-old when we were a little under-dressed and still got exceptional service, which was really appreciated. Keep it up, Anejo!

This is my second time here for lunch and I really like it. I’ve tried the San Felipe both times which is a chicken or beef fajita taco, venison tamale, rice, beans and guacamole. I LOVE the smoky flavor of the meat especially the chicken. And, the tamale is delicious. The rice is very flavorful too though it was red and I was expecting green since menu says cilantro rice. This time I also got the street corn from the appetizer menu and had them cut it off the cob. It was excellent! I also love that the salsa they bring you with the chips is served warm.

The reason we go out to eat is for the food and Añejo does not disappoint in that department. They served not three but four courses for Houston Restaurant Weeks plus an amuse bouche, so we left stuffed. The Snapper Tacos were OUTSTANDING! Literally the most flavorful I’ve ever had. The jalapeño margarita was fantastic! Service was slightly slow, but good once we got going. I would go here again for sure!

My boyfriend and I really love this place. The margaritas are excellent and the tequila selection is one to impress. The food is great too. By far, some of the best lamb chops I have ever had… but they are not always on the menu. The ceviche is delicious, as is the trout and snapper. I have yet to try the fajitas, but my boyfriend says they are really good. The first time I ate here, the service was excellent. The second time, service could use some improvement. Needless to say, we will still continue to come back.

The food is over priced and service is slow. We purchased a bottle of wine which they ended up not having. We were offered a «$ 200» bottle of wine as a replacement for the same price of the wine we originally ordered. Later on I found the same wine for $ 59 at a specs. This was after they bragged about how good their wine prices were.

Great service, love the bar! the sidecar margarita was really good… high end tequila, a splash of grand marnier honey and lime juice… goes down easy! a little too expensive($ 17) but really tasty! It did take too long to get our drinks, but the bar was fairly crowded. the guac is fresh and tasty, and we also really enjoyed the queso w garnishments and the jalapeño oil to make it as hot as we wanted! The lobster tacos were our favorite dish! Now here’s why not 5 stars, the snapper tacos for some reason were mushy… we couldnt figure out what all was in it, but too mushy! They need to figure out how to get a little crunch in there or change it some. over all though, we loved Anejo and we WILL be back! PS hey Anejo, if you serve the tacos that won Tacolandia, you’ll have a hit, those were the bomb, really good!

My friends and I hosted a birthday party on the patio for our friend yesterday. Our waiter Sam was a delight! He was friendly funny accommodating and took several pictures of our group so we could have photos of the occasion with everyone in them. The food was as usual delicious and the drinks were perfect. While I’ve been there several times before, yesterday was special because of the level of service. To top it off, sam carried out items to my car for me at the end of the day without even being asked. Thanks for a memorable day and your delicious food

From the stale chips to the dirty martini glass… I was immediately underwhelmed. Añejo managed to disappoint in so many ways. Here are the issues in the order they came: — The salsa was okay. The stales chips, were not — The«margarita» that apparently was delicious — was not. Frozen? Hardly. I get a better sloshy mess at the local corner gas station. — After finally finishing that awful margarita, I had a vodka martini. Glass was crusty(not properly washed/sanitized) and there was a tomato peel stuck to the glass. Ick. Vodka was not stirred with the ice properly and it was just warm vodka. — The quality of the food was sub par. The waiter attempted to sell the fresh tortillas, but it was an even bigger disappointment when it arrived. I had the beef fajita enchiladas that were covered in ground beef & gravy? Gross. Someone else had the mole enchiladas and they were also a HUGE disappointment. All in all, the place was just bad. Don’t go there. On top of that, it was rather expensive for a «tex-mess»…I mean«tex-mex» restaurant. $ 17 for enchiladas and $ 11 for a watered down margarita. If you want overpriced tex-mex — do yourself a favor and just go to El Tiempo. One more thing — this restaurant comes from a family of chain restaurants. They try to peg themselves as a local restaurant, but once you’ve opened restaurants(like Max’s Wine Dive, etc) in other cities — you are a chain.

Absolutely fantastic experience at Anejo! It’s the nicest Tex-Mex restaurant I’ve ever visited, and the food did not disappoint. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and was designed for awesome people-watching. The food is wonderful. We started off with margaritas, which were pretty strong and delish. Both the chicken fajitas and beef fajitas were perfect and served with thick flour tortillas(yum!). With the fajitas, you have a choice of traditional Mexican rice or cilantro rice and also a choice of three kinds of beans. And the complimentary chips come with a warm salsa that was really great. All of the above was delicious. My two favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in town are El Tiempo and Ninfa’s, and I’d say that Anejo is right on par. I compared the prices between Anejo and El Tiempo and was shocked to find that El Tiempo is actually not far off from Anejo! El Tiempo’s 8 oz. chicken and beef fajitas are $ 27, and Anejo’s 8 oz. chicken or beef fajitas are $ 20 or $ 30, respectively. I think Anejo has fancier options than fajitas, but it was surprising how it really wasn’t that much more expensive. To top it off, service was excellent. Great spot – I will definitely recommend to friends.

Too bad others seem to have had a poor experience! Ours was awesome! Drinks were excellent. Service was attentive. I had the prime beef fajitas. Really good! All the sides were out of this world. We ordered one of everything for the table. Creamed corn and chorizo scalloped potatoes were the group favorite. Everyone was happy with their entries. Lamb chops, ribeye, shrimp, red snapper, and enchiladas were all good. We ended the meal by getting one of each of the desserts. Margarita pie– pretty much a key lime pie– was the best. Awesome buttery crust. The tres leches tamale was an interesting take on an old classic. I’d recommend it for special occasion.

This is by far the worst dining experience I have had. Our waiter was rude, combative and should not be in the service industry. We thought we were being filmed as a joke the service was so bad. He wouldn’t bring menus, our drinks and gave us attitude when we asked for our drinks. After 30 minutes we stood up and left. The manager was sitting outside when we left. We told him this was a terrible experience. The waiter then ran out and blamed US for the poor service!!! It was unprecedented. Never seen anything like this! Don’t waste a wonderful evening by coming here.

I am rating Añejo’s a 3.5 Went there for dinner, the food was good, quality and taste also good. Ordered rack of lamb and lobster tail. Side dishes were tasty, had the spinach and creamed corn. For dessert Key lime pie which was very good. Cocktails were also good, had the«Tequila Sidecar». Atmosphere and decorations I would rate a 5 star. Service a 4.5 star rating.

I wanted to give Añejo more than three stars, but unfortunately cannot. I understand they just opened a few months back and they’re probably still working out the kinks and whistles that come with restaurant openings, but I have a feeling my review would be the same regardless. I came for dinner on a Saturday night and the restaurant wasn’t that busy. We all sat outside and were presented with massive menus. However, after going through them page by page, we realized it was the drink menu, not the food menu. Don’t the two usually come together? And isn’t the drink menu usually much, much smaller? Anyway, we weren’t really drinking that evening so we requested food menus and as we did that, we already put in an order for queso and guacamole because we were starving. As we browsed the food menu, the appetizers arrived, but no utensils so we sat there helpless until I requested forks. The guacamole was delicious and fresh, but even though the queso was beautifully presented, I found it a little watery for my taste. We all ordered an assortment of entrees and I decided to be bold and try the venison mole enchilada. It was good, not great. The beef enchilada my friend ordered was way better. One person in our group ordered the chicken fajita and she was underwhelmed. I didn’t try the cilantro rice, but the consensus was that it was mediocre, and in a state like Texas you can get way better cilantro rice at a thousand other places. Nobody liked the black beans, though I can’t contest to that because I didn’t sample. Here’s the thing when it comes to Mexican/Tex-Mex food. I LOVE spice. The spicier the better, but not everyone has the same spice tolerance. They spice their dishes a bit too much in my opinion, and those who can’t handle much kick were unable to eat their food with full enjoyment. Personally, I don’t care because I’m unaffected, but there were a few people at the table who couldn’t put the food to their tongue. For dessert we ordered the impossible cake, which is a cross between chocolate cake and flan. In my opinion it was okay, a decent sweet treat. I’ve eaten lots of flan before and this one was not authentic at all, but it was sweet, there was chocolate, and I have a sweet tooth so it hit the spot. Añejo is SUCH a pretty restaurant inside and out, and I do know they try with the service and that’s probably one of those little things that needs to be ironed out, but when it comes to the food, it’s mediocre at best, and totally overpriced for what you get. Lots of hype, but the delivery of the culinary experience doesn’t satisfy the way it should.

Ahh when trying to be too fancy ends up hurting you in the end. Anejo suffers from nice presentation with little substance syndrome. In the place where Arturo’s used to be, Anejo definitely sets itself out as a high-end Tex-Mex kind of place. I went with a couple co-workers and we started off with tequila of course. They have an extensive tequila list and a good amount of cocktails for you to choose from. We then moved on to appetizers and started out with the chips and queso which comes in a nice little mini pan with little bowls of pico de gallo, green onions, and onions. Cool presentation but the queso wasn’t very good and it cost $ 16. A cup of queso going for $ 16 is inexcusable in my opinion even if you’re in NYC. This is Houston come on now. We then tried the bacon-wrapped shrimp which was my favorite part of the meal. Four jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon cooked perfectly. Things ended with the wild boar tamales. I like the idea but I’m not a big tamale guy in general so I shouldn’t comment much on this entrée. Most perplexing part of the night: I started off with a margarita and told our waiter no salt. Two minutes later he comes back to our table to confirm no salt to which I agreed. He then brings a margarita with salt. How does this happen? Not a big deal but amazing nonetheless. If you’re looking for up-scale Mexican, I much prefer Hugo’s.
