AMLI at the Medical Center

This place is infested on move in day. They can’t even have it clean
UPDATE: The manager personally apologized for the situation, and she was very sincere and professional during our conversation. After considering the other apartments in the area, AMLI is a great place for students to live as it is much cheaper than the luxury apartments. While the apartments are old (including the appliances), our floor plan really is nice. Despite how old the appliances are they are in great condition though & A.C. works great! Our apartment has a separate dining and living area, big office with a built in desk, patio, big bedrooms, and large walk in closets. There is also a linen closet, and the bathroom had a lot of drawer/​cabinet space.
*** If/​when the bug situation is taken care of I will upgrade to 4 stars!

I have been living at AMLI from past 8 months.
Pros: Safe community, clean apartments, nice people, fitness center, location
Cons: Expensive (considering the apartment amenities), poor communication, sometimes rude staff, hidden charges
Two incidents that I would like to share:
1. When we first moved in to this apartment, we were told that they will give us 6 months of car port ($ 35 per month) for free. This was a welcome package they offered. They also mentioned that I can cancel it after 6 months. But when I asked to cancel after 6 months, they completely denied this and told me that I will have to pay for the carport until the end of lease. I tried several times to talk to someone about it but they never responded.
2. Recently my friend’s car was towed at the apartment. First of all, there are very few visitor parking spaces inside the community so my friend had to park in one of the «permit» spaces. She had parked only for an hour but it ended up getting towed. Later when I asked, they said the towing people check everyday after hours and will tow whenever there is a car without permit sticker. They never communicated about this. I kind off think that they have some kind of a deal with towing company. The towing people said it’s $ 225 and then raised it to $ 247 for no apparent reason.

Pros: location, safety, shuttle, friendly staff, price (comparatively), fitness center
Cons: maintenance, poor communication
I moved in a month ago and initially I was pleased. The apartment is in relatively good condition and such. However I have been having several maintenance problems and needing things fixed. They almost NEVER answer their phone. I went to the office to ask about that and the main supervisor/​manager said «sorry there’s only 2 of us, we get busy». THEN HIRE MORE PEOPLE. I don’t pay $ 1500/​mo not to have my concerns addressed. For example: my garbage disposal isn’t working and I asked for it to be fixed. The technician said he fixed it, but never even entered my apt! Now (a week later) it’s still not fixed and my drain is clogged so my house smells like rotten food.
I’m frustrated that whenever I ask for things to be fixed I feel like a burden. But I’m a resident, it’s part of your job!

I moved in about a week ago and I would have to say it has been a very pleasant experience so far. The floor plan is great, the price is reasonable, and the community is wonderful. Also its at a great location, just minutes away from the Medical Center and all the local amenities like Kroger, Target, Ross, Sam’s, CVS/​Walgreens, etc.
But the most important part, and the reason why I would recommend signing a lease here, is the management. They are very helpful and courteous. From filling maintenance/​service requests, to help printing/​scanning documents, to answering any doubts, management will bend over backwards to help you. Ask for Ashley or Melanie, they are wonderful people and will go completely out of their way to help you! So far its been a great experience and I look forward to the year ahead. Hopefully you consider AMLI if you are looking for a place near the med center. Cheers!

Do NOT sign a lease here. I am stunned at how bad The Amli’s service is. Our apartment has been pro-​rated for a whole week because they gave us an apartment that was not ready (not fully carpeted, no caulking, and FILTHY) and 1 week later has STILL not followed through on what they said. They keep promising maids and service men to show up but they don’t. Then they apologize by saying that they’ll give us gift cards which I still have yet to see either. Oh and my car got towed the first night because I was in MY covered parking spot with all of MY stickers indicating that the spot belonged to ME. They promise us security here but a resident is able to call a tow truck company to come in and tow my car because they think I’m in their spot and this tow truck can get in a tow a vehicle without even leaving a tow slip at the office?!? I thought my car was stolen on my first night. I will tell everyone that I know to never sign a lease with an Amli in the future. I have lived in several apartment complexes throughout my education and this is by far the absolute worst.

We have stayed in many apartment communities around Medical center. This one is the worst in terms of both management and apartment conditions — we got a first floor unit that had water leaking all around the roof and the AC never worked fully on both bedrooms [one would cool more than the other or vice-​versa — the maintenance could never fix it]. We ended up having more than 50 work orders and finally when we moved out, we were charged the following, to our surprise.
Carpet-​Replaced $ 417
Cleaning Service $ 95.00
Resurface master bath $ 109.00
Resurface tub & tile in guest bath $ 199.00
Repair in foyer $ 75.00
Please note that both master bath and guest bath had water dripping from top most of the time — with numerous work orders, the maintenance could not fix it. Now we have to pay for these. That seems ridiculous. Carpet cost is unbelievable as we were assigned an old carpet and only a small part of it was not clean. So, please be aware before choosing this community — they will rip you apart.
In terms of parking, there is never parking in the community if you are late comer (8PM or later). You would have to park outside or get your car towed away. Our car was towed two times.
In terms of safety, our apartment was broken in within 15 days of moving in. The management did nothing in this aspect.

My roommate and I have been living here for seven or eight months, and it’s been a great experience– maintenance requests have never taken more than 48 hours to fill, no pest problems, and everyone seems pretty nice. I’ve never felt unsafe (there’s a courtesy officer), which for me was a big concern prior to moving in because I came to a big city from a very small town.
The shuttle service isn’t overwhelmingly reliable, but there’s a Metro bus stop right outside the front, and the VA shuttle is a ten minute walk away… And the facilities are really well-​maintained. All in all, very worth the money (AND since we’re both students, it’s within out budget)!

I’ve been living at the AMLI almost six months, and I couldn’t be happier.
The office staff are fantastic (I actually like going to pick up packages from their office!), and the maintenance staff are quick, thorough, and really nice!
The apartments and grounds are well-​maintained, and I feel extremely safe in the complex.
The location is fantastic — you can be on 288, 45, 59, and 610 in minutes! Close proximity to the medical schools and UH.
I moved from here from a place in the Med Center, which was hundreds more, but my apartment in the AMLI is a little larger. The place I moved from was constantly under construction and changing hands, which led to problems with security and office staff.
I’ve been extremely happy at the AMLI — no regrets and no complaints!!!

We just moved in a couple of days ago, but the experience has already been more than awesome. Michael was absolutely amazing in getting us all set up here. He was knowledgable about the entire property and process. We had an unusual circumstance and he helped us every step of the way.
On his day off, we had a couple of questions and Alexa picked up right where he left off. She was debriefed on our situation and what we had to do and knew exactly what to tell us.
I am loving the coffee and gym and I can’t wait to start meeting other people in the community.
Here’s to a great 15 more months (and maybe longer).

quiet, cozy, and quaint.
i have been a tenant since 2009, and i must say this place lives up to the expectations that i had. the staff is more than knowledge about the community. quiet unless there is an ambulance passing near to the med ctr. the community remains clean.
however, the parking in some parts of the community can fill up before 7pm, making late comers park in the fire zones making it and now they are towing cars that do. but since me and my fiancé got our car ports other outsiders feel the need to park there and the office have yet to do anything about it.
some tenants feel the need to allow there children to run up and down the parking lot unsupervised and run there bikes into the cars. also folks with dogs need to learn how to pick up after their nasty dogs instead of leaving that mess in the grass for someone to step in it.
the office management is sup-​par besides one lady named jennifer. she seems to be the only one in the office with sense. the manager kim is quick to make excuses for every issue you bring to her.
well i do know one thing i will not be renewing our lease this year
