It was bad, once i went there and i got two egg and sausage tacos and when i bite one of them it had a crunch flavor and i looked down and it had a piece of eggshel still there! It was the worst feeling and the prices are way too high. Wost Experience

This place has a lot going on. To the far felt of the shopping strip they have a Panaderia(Bakery). That’s followed by a small reception hall that opens up to the main restaurant. The main restaurant has an area where they sell Mexican Bread, a snow cone area, and then a separate bar area. The restaurant is set up in kind of a Luby’s style line where everything is prepared already you just let them know what you want and they either make you a taco or a plate of whatever you ask for. I could tell that they’re used to having lots of regulars because they had lady’s going to the edge of the line asking what they could get you started with, yet we had no idea what they had because we hadn’t even made it to where the food was to see what they had. It was a little frustrating because we felt pressured to order without knowing what our options were. We wound up getting a couple of tacos and some tamales. They have different types of tamales. Apparently they have machine made tamales, handmade tamales, and salvadorean tamales. We went with the Chicken Handmade Tamales. They were pretty damn good and you definitely get your money’s worth with portion size. The tacos same thing, they were pretty hearty. They have lady’s making the tortillas there but I will say they still didn’t have the full homemade taste to me. They’re better than store bought tortillas, but not quite as good as my grandma’s tortillas. Overall I really liked Alamo and I will definitely come another day and try more stuff on their menu. I was eyeing their chile rellenos so i’ll probably get one of those next time.

If you want great homemade tamales this is the place, their guacamole is good and fresh, great place for early morning breakfast tacos… but their tamales is what made this place popular.

Amazing! The tamales and tacos are some of the best I’ve had in my lifetime and the tortillas are super fresh. Everything is super authentic, if you want real Mexican food, this is the place.

Great place for breakfast tacos and the place is pretty nice. They have a large variety of drinks bottled, canned, or fresh. They have merchandise for sale and the food is always the bomb! We always go for breakfast tacos and the dessert does look pretty good too. This last time though the server had an attitude and I saw flies around the sweet bread. None around the tacos though so I guess that’s a plus. True authentic Mexican food and homemade at that. If you’re in the area it’s a good place to stop by.

Great place to eat at! There’s always a long line for a reason! One thing I love is the machine that makes different types of coffees, but also has abuelita chocolate! Love the different selection for tacos and authentic Mexican food! This is as authentic as it gets.

Yummy! I got the jalapeño & cheese, chicken & spicy pork. The machine made are way cheaper than the handmade but don’t get them! The spicy pork machine made tamales were disgusting, not even edible, & half the size of the handmade. But the awesomeness of the handmade ones totally made up for it. The chicken was so flavorful, & the cheese was really good & spicy. I can’t wait to go back & get the pork handmade this time!

Wanting something different this year, I decided to go with tamales. Wife wanted fajitas but I’m a tamale guy(til the day I die!!). Quick google search for«best tamales in Houston» and Alamo Tamales pops up in the search results. Had the wife pick up 2 dozen on Christmas Eve and it made for the best Christmas dinner I’ve had in a while(no offense mom!). Full of flavor, 2 different sauces, I instantly fell in love. Alamo will definitely be my «go-to» for Tamales from now on. Found that the best way to re-heat them is to put them in a pan on the stove and let them cook. Cover them to let them steam a bit and get a nice char on the husks. Heaven!!!

Dear Alamo, thank you. You have made my Christmas. Yours are without doubt the absolute best tamales that I have ever had. Holy dammit Christmas, they are amazing.

I am literally writing a Unilocal review on Christmas Eve to comment on how delicious our tamales were this evening! The masa was so flavorful and the pork filling and the bean filling were spot on. With definitely be getting tamales again from here in the near future.

Awesome! Kind of over whelming the first time. We ordered homemade pork and chicken tamales togo. Then we had carne assada and cheese enchiladas. It came with potatoes, rice and beans. It was a mexican buffett. We will go back.

Awesome tamales! For the last 15 years I have ordered 20 – 30 dozen tamales to be picked up Christmas Eve. During the year we get tamales for vacations, birthdays, etc. I bring friends and introduce them to Alamo Tamales, and now lunch and some breakfast. THIS year for the first time, they DONOT take orders. You have to come in, get in line and order. My concern is if everyone wants that many, are they pre-packaged ? Oh well, we will leave Katy about 4:30 am Christmas Eve and get the tamales and have a great breakfast while we wait. Also, check and see how much salsa they give you, you might to buy more. Merry Christmas!

Barbacoa is delicious. BUT the tortillas de harina… Well taste like plastic. Not my liking. Next time I’d made my own or purchase elsewhere

Great tacos and tamales. North side classic right here. You can’t go wrong. The homemade tacos are great, the tamales are even better. All kinds of good hot sauce. Don’t let the long lines scare you, they move fast. If you want good tamales come here

Delicious!!! I get the pollo(chicken) tamales to-go. They are the best in the city, in my honest opinion. The line can be long at lunch but, as others have advised, it does move pretty quick. Pro tip: standard sauces for ½ dozen are one small(double thimble size) red and one green. My favorite is the green chili and they are happy to oblige my request for dos verde.

As much as I come here I am going to have to learn Spanish. Even though the employees barely speak English they understand what I want. The people there are super nice. I have become a regular. The food is really good, but the customer service is even better. That says alot. The food is good. But, the customer service is better. The place us always clean. I love coming here and will continue to come here

The hand rolled pork tamales are the best tamales I have ever had. I am getting hungry just thinking about them. I went to Alamo three times around Christmas. First I went to have lunch, then I went to pick up eight dozen for a Christmas party, and lastly I went to pick up two dozen for Christmas Eve. I was not disappointed any of those times. They were super delicious. My second favorite were the cheese and jalapeño. I am not usually the vegetarian type, but they had a nice spiciness to them. On Christmas Eve the line was about 200 people deep. It took about 25 minutes to get through, but it felt like it moved fast and it was totally worth it. They were also passing out samples the whole time, so it made the waiting much more bearable. I have found my tamale place in Houston and it is Alamo. I won’t go anywhere else!

I want to make one thing very very clear. Alamo Tamale has the very best handmade tamales you are going to find anywhere in Houston. If you are a person who likes real authentic tamales then this is the only place to go to. I know that’s a very bold statement to make but I’m making it. I found this place online years ago in search for the best tamales in Houston. This place came up in conversation on a bulletin board with people saying they drive all the way from San Antonio just to come here. That was impressive to me so I came to try it for myself. I have been coming back every since. I’ve had tamales from many of my Spanish family and friends who cannot even come close to how good this place makes Tamales. Let me be clear… I’m talking real original pork tamales. Not beef. Not chicken and not deer. Real PORK tamales is what I’m reviewing here. I wouldn’t dare waste a review on a chicken or cheese tamale. If you’re eating chicken and cheese tamales just do the world a favor and stop eating tamales. OK seriously now. I can’t give this place enough stars. I’m happy that they have made a huge build out here. It’s come from literally a hole cut in a wall to now a full running restaurant that’s really easy on the eyes. I’m sure there will still be lines to concur during the holiday season, but even if you have to wait all day…(actually the lines go pretty fast) these tamales are well worth the wait. My advice… Do not try to save and get the machine made ones. How dare you?! Eat Well and Prosper.
