My fiancé and I adopted a wonderful little cocker spaniel from St. Louis Senior Dog Project. She came spayed, vaccinated and with a few months supply of medicines(as well as some to treat an infection). We had originally went to see another puppy and had filled out an application online but another family had been interested first. The director invited us to come to the open adoption event just in case things fell through. It worked out perfectly, because we met our perfect pet. They still email us to make sure she’s doing ok and they don’t solicit us for donations like previous shelters I’ve adopted from

We were lucky enough to get an amazing dog from this organization. We met Mora during a «home visit» where the foster parents came to our house to make sure it was a suitable home. The foster mom was amazing. You could tell that she had a true connection with her dogs. We lucked out with getting a dog that someone abandoned because she had another litter of pups. They were all adopted, but she made it through to foster care before we found her. She was an amazingly well-tempered dog. The whole process was easy & efficient. The foster parents even said they would babysit if we ever went out of town! It’s their way to stay connected to their former pups… A great experience that I would recommend to anyone!

My fiancé and I were lucky enough to find the perfect little rescue puppy, and surprisingly we found him through St. Louis Senior Dog Project. While they mostly take in older dogs, they are perfectly happy to rescue pups from shelters if it means saving their lives. They have their dogs on show every Saturday at the Kirkwood Petco at Lindbergh and Big Bend near I-44. The dogs they rescue are fostered by volunteers with the rescue group, which means that they are kept in a family situation, are usually house trained and more. These dogs are special, and the good people who work with the shelter do their best to correct any problems the dogs may have. We adopted Bailey on March 8, 2008 and we couldn’t be more happy. Bailey was three months old at the time and had kennel cough. St. Louis Senior Dog Project were happy to get refills of his medicine at their expense when the cough needed an extra round of antibiotics to be cured. The shelter also set up and paid for his alteration, going so far as to meet me at the hospital on the morning of the surgery, and were happy to answer any questions that came up. If you are looking for a good dog that will be ready to come into your home, you should really think about checking out these guys. You’ll find a wonderful addition to your family and you’ll feel good about working with wonderful people. Thanks guys!
