The service is great and the atmosphere is really cozy. We ordered the fried mushrooms, and they are the best anywhere! Four times as big as anywhere else I’ve ever had them. They also have a fish fry on Fridays… unlimited fish. I typically don’t like fish, but I had two helpings here.

This place is a little hole in the wall dive bar, but man oh man do they make a stellar chicken wing. We stopped here for lunch while in Houghton Lake on vacation and were thoroughly impressed. We started with their fried mushrooms which were quite massive. Most places just give you maybe a dozen small button mushrooms, but this place gives you a dozen large portobellos. As for the wings, they were perfectly fried so they had a crunchy exterior yet were still most and pulled from the bone cleanly. They also had really good flavor if you wanted to eat them without any sauce. I opted for their Hot sauce as I was a little hesitant of their 911 option. Hot had a nice kick, but if you have a high tolerance to spicy food like I do, they may come off slightly weak. You might want to ask for a side of the 911 to try before you commit to a sauce. Service wise it was good. The place was a bit dead as it was early in the day during the middle of the week so I can’t really comment on how it would be under normal or stressed conditions. One neat thing about this pace though is that if you head towards the bathroom they have cartoon caricatures on the walls stemming back over a hundred years of the«Mayor» and«Marshall» of their Tip-Up Town festivities. It is a pretty neat thing to peruse if you aren’t in a hurry.

Came in here yesterday for lunch. I wanted to check it out based on one of the other reviewer’s wing suggestion. I ordered the 911 wings and a caesar salad. My girlfriend ordered the loaded potato soup, boneless wings and fries. The server was really friendly and attentive. The wings were as advertised — hot. I eat lots of chicken wings. Lots. These are done well. There’s nothing as disappointing as ordering an establishment’s «hot» or «inferno» or «hell» or whatever wings and have them not be that hot. These made me sweat. The ranch was a little chunky, which was kind of off-putting. Having worked in a restaurant, I figured it just didn’t get blended or whipped enough because it was homemade. My girlfriend loved the soup, but said that her boneless wings tasted«funny.» She couldn’t put her finger on it. Their french fries are crinkle-cut — neither of our favorite and their ketchup had a definite cinnamon flavor to it. So… other than the soup, her meal was kind of a bust. If you’re looking for good wings and good service, I recommend this place. Pretty much giving four stars based on those two things alone. We didn’t have much luck with the other menu items, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be willing to make the round trip from 127 over to Kilkare’s again.
