I’ve been to Moe’s a couple of times Sunday afternoon I had the smoked Turkey plate, previously I’ve had the famous wings at the Lakeview location. A lot of people rave the wings are the best wings in town… I’m not of the same opinion… The atmosphere is nice, the service is friendly and prompt the food in my opinion is just ok. Every protein I’ve tried has a sweet wang to it that I do not personally like… The rub and the sauces are all sweet and that isn’t how I like my BBQ. The cornbread seemed to be made from corn meal textured cake batter… The sides far outshined the main event on my plate… I had the Greens and Mac and Cheese which were not the best I’ve had but enjoyable and unfortunately better than the BBQ in my opinion. My wife and son quite enjoyed the smoked chicken sandwich/they like sweet BBQ. There are locations poping up everywhere for Moe’s original BBQ so my opinion is obviously not a popular one. If you prefer spicy rubs/vinegar based sauces like I do then this place isn’t ideal for you.

This was bad. It was so bad I didn’t even eat my sandwich. Ordered Mac and Cheese and smoked Turkey Sandwich. It was awful, it was obviously old and on its way to being spoiled and the Mac and Cheese had no flavor at all. My husband got turnip greens and wings and all you could taste was Old Bay Seasoning in the greens??? Weird. Wings were ok, Staff was nice. I will never go back.

This just wasn’t good. The only positive was the Mississippi Mud Pie, which is just a chocolate mousse with Oreos and not even a true Mississippi Mud Pie. The white sauce is a mayo base and the traditional sauce was way too spicy and vinegary. Skip it and go to either Full Moon, Jim & Nicks or Legacy. Honestly wish I could give it less than one star.

Finally, figured out how to how order at this place! I ordered wings and a margarita, which came out very promptly The wings are great at this place! The margarita was on the sweet side, but decent. Happy customer!

With so many incredible BBQ places in the greater Birmingham area it’s tough to get excited about Moe’s. Meanwhile after shopping at Dick’s Sporting Goods and having little time to spare we opted to try this particular Moe’s(Moe’s is a decent size chain for those who aren’t aware). One thing we’ve experienced at other Moe’s(Georgia Tech, Auburn, etc) is that you can get in and out quick. It’s similar to the ordering process of a Dickey’s with food that’s one grade better. Moe’s is average BBQ, at best. There’s nothing wrong with it and it’s a decent place to come for those with little time to spare and want a quick BBQ meal. Unfortunately, it’s doesn’t rival many of the better places in the region(Dreamland, Full Moon, Jim N Nicks, Rusty’s, Saw’s, Saw’s Juke Joint, and the list goes on). It’s simply ok BBQ, whereas the above-mentioned places(and many others) are one to two notches better. With so many better BBQ options in the area we’d have a tough time returning. Other than a quick in and out, affordable combos and lots of TVs to watch while eating there’s lesser of a draw here. The quality of the food takes a step back from competitors. We tried several meats: pork, turkey, fried shrimp and catfish. The turkey(which normally comes with white and red sauce) wasn’t juicy in any way. In fact, the ends were extremely overcooked, almost like leather. Eww. The catfish didn’t fare much better. In fact the breading wasn’t done. There was no crispy taste, rather an uncooked gooey crust. The pulled pork is likely the best entrée we tried, yet still average. The shrimp tasted similar to what you’d expect from Red Lobster. Yawn. When it comes to sides, expect to straddle the average line. The fries were lukewarm and tasted like they’d be hanging out under a heating lamp so it was tough to give them a true test. The beans are average, too. However, the Mississippi mud pie did taste great. By now, you’ve probably gathered Moe’s does a great job at consistently offering average BBQ: nothing great yet nothing bad either. If that’s ok with you, you’ll find a place here. If you want great BBQ head somewhere else.

Best Wings they’re just good size and cooked to perfection. The ribs are the best fall off the bone you can get their red bbq or the white bbq sauce. The bartender John is quick service and on point. If you want the best bbq in the area come here.

Pretty good BBQ and really fast service. They have a very casual atmosphere, but also offer somewhat of a sports bar(for people who… like sports…) Haha. DEFINITELY Get the corn bread!!! Definitely try the Mac and cheese!!! I’d say skip the coleslaw, and go for another more adventurous side. The smoked turkey… yeah…just get that… it’s AMAZING. And, don’t forget to bring the kiddies to this place, it’s definitely not a date spot… the prices are great enough to truck the whole family!

I love BBQ. Their pulled pork is missing something… Flavor maybe? The collards are good. Not a fan of their set up and order process either.

Okay, first thing you need to know is that you order at the counter and the counter is not right when you walk in. It is next to the bar, so head back there and you are in for a treat! BBQ is one of those very personal eats so I am going to focus more on the options and not the actual BBQ. The menu has a lot of options. All the regular meats, pork, biscuit, chicken, wings(yes, I know wings are chicken, but hey they are on the menu). You can get most of these as a plate or a sandwich(not the wings, darn I should have just left those off, they are pesky). What I really like is that Moe’s has some standard sides, but they also have sides of the day. The sides of the day is actually a long list. Today they had lima beans, cornbread pudding, Mississippi Mud pie and about 5 more but these are the ones I had not seen before(we eat here about once a month). Macaroni and Cheese, French Fries, Chips and a few more are the ones that are always available. Personally I don’t think the mac and cheese has enough cheese in it. So you’ve ordered, head back to the drink fountain and fill up. Soda and tea. Then take a seat and they will bring it out to you. They are pretty fast with the food so you can be out of there quick, as in plenty of time for a lunch break from work, or busy night with kids. Or you can sit. They have a bunch of tv’s tuned to various sports channels. I personally really like all the BBQ I have had here. Typically I get the pulled pork sandwich Alabama style(smothered with slaw and pickles) and then add a bit more sauce which is available at the drink stand in squirt bottles. We just bring one back to the table. So if you like BBQ and trying new places, give this one a try, it’s worth a shot. If their BBQ isn’t for you then you know. But if you do like it, it is a gem!

Eh, wasn’t impressed. Lacking in flavor. BBQ sauce drizzled on top as well as ranch. Wasn’t true BBQ to me. Lots of side options so that was nice. Mashed potatoes are more like what I call dressing. Son enjoyed the mac and cheese. Corn bread was fried. None of us liked it. Won’t be back.

Love me some Moe’s Original BBQ! Until several weeks ago, I didn’t realize I’d never been to this particular location. I’ve been to all the other Birmingham locations plenty but this one is no different. The vibe is very distinct and unique. Very fun atmosphere like the Lakeview location. Lots of TV’s for you sports fans ;) All the same deals etc. apply here as well… 5−7pm happy hour specials M-F, 50 cent wing night etc. Staff that I’ve interacted with on a couple of visits now are all friendly and knowledgeable about what’s going on in the restaurant. Can’t ask for much more! Yet another business to help solidify Hoover as a great place to live(or be close to) :)
