Amazing food. I don’t have much to compare it against but Subway, and I can say with confidence this was waaaaay better. Seriously delicious subs and the prices were good.

I grew up in Jackson Hole, where the original NYCSS is located, and so I might be a bit biased, but I think this place has great food. It’s nostalgic for me, on the one hand. On the other hand, I have often wondered what exactly they do that makes for such awesome subs. They have secret sauce that I have more-or-less reverse-engineered. It’s based on Italian dressing, Italian seasoning, mayo and the juice of pepperoncinis. But that alone does not explain these awesome sandwiches. It’s also not the griddle that they use, because honestly, take their Bronx sandwich(turkey and provolone), and it’s just as good hot or cold. I think the meat and cheese are good, but I also don’t think that completely accounts for it either, and there are places you could go that, for instance, smoke their own meats, and are probably better in that category alone. That leaves basically one ingredient: the bread. It’s so good! It’s a light and fluffy white bread, on the sweet side. It really makes the sandwich! I stop here almost every time I’m in Hood River in the daytime.

Stopped by here after walking about the town and the gorge with my friend and it was such a cute little sub shop tucked away in the corner of the town. The seating area is filled with all kinds of art, so you’ll always find a way to be amused even while eating! The prices are fairly decent for the portions. If you love grilled sandwiches, than this is the perfect place for you. The veggies, bread and sauce are savory it’s amazing. Highly recommend if in the area.

Really great, east coast-style subs. A little outside the town center, but worth the trip. Got a turkey sub, everything on it — normally I’m not into banana peppers but this place does it right.

Got the Bronx and it was delicious! I’m a no cheese or mayo kind of person, so I’ve experienced a fair share of bland and dry sandwiches but I was very impressed by the flavor of my sub. Meat and bread was great, lots of veggies and reasonably priced. Bonus, great music selection! Wish you could wire it outside for the patio seating!

Good food, and not badly priced. They don’t have any gluten free breads, but were willing to put the sandwich contents in a dish for our son with salad. I expect I’ll be back.

I stop here every time I go though Hood River! This sandwich shop has simply the BEST bread. It is amazing, no seriously the rest of the sub doesn’t even mater, it’s all about the bread!

Friendly and prompt staff is what I find EVERY time I go to nyc subs. They take my order and are always open to customizing it a little for me if I prefer something left off. I always get my food in less than 5 minutes and have never been disappointed. They make their bread fresh and their meats are moist and dont contain any grisly parts. Definitely a great lunch spot! Tip: be sure and try the in house made cookies… absolutely delicious!

I’ve tried every sub at New York City Sub Shop and they are all AMAZING. The staff is pretty cool as well. They are always polite, and super happy to see their customers. I’m a huge fan of the place! :-D (4 stars because I wish it was open later)

Good food and fast service! If you are looking for somewhere quick to grab lunch than this is a good option. They allow you to call in ahead so it is ready as soon as you pick it up.

I was disappointed with this sandwich shop. After a night camping and hiking and a few hundred miles on my motorcycle, a hungry friend and I stopped in Hood River craving a good sub/hoagie both originating from the east coasts were subs reign supreme. The sandwich had a decent taste albeit a bit bland, I had a cheesesteak. I expected it to be larger and stuffed with more meet. It was mostly roll, and I thought overpriced for what it was. Plus when I ordered it the way I always like my steak sammys, ketchup mayo and fried onion, they said they had no ketchup! For a cheesesteak really? The mayo was forgotten anyway. Point being, I will not be back, just all around disappointing with such a high Unilocal rating. My friend was equally unimpressed and he had a chicken marinara sub.

Stopped by this little small town deli in Hood River this weekend while on our way to a hike in the Mt Hood area, Got the 4″ manhattan sub, was very fresh and nice, you can tell its freshly baked bread. A great place to grab a quick snack if you’re in the area.

Made to order, great bread, cooked in front of you and really nice staff that were very helpful. Wrapped up my sandwich for a great lunch down by the river.

Ok. Genius meets grill. They make their own delicious bread daily. Check. They grill the meat and cheese and your other toppings on a massive flat grill that’s scraped away after too much residue’s built up. Check. They slip your hot main ingredients into the bread that’s accompanied with some other toppings of your choice. Then it is wrapped up, and handed off to you by name. You can get some fresh chocolate chip cookies or soda or other drinks as well. The people are awesome too! I got the BRONX with added ham and bacon. I bite into it and I’m reminded why I come back every time. The bread is soft, the dressing that I chose to add makes it kind of moist, the bacon is smoky and crispy, the turkey, ham, and cheese are hot and gooey with intermingled caramelized onions, no… nothing else compares Alright. Then you sit back and see the view of the Gorge. There’s a perfect substantial chocolate chip cookie waiting. And a bubbling drink to wash down whatever. Try it without bacon first to witness the original taste. Or just go straight for the bacon. Any way you go, enjoy! This just leaves me with«Ah. What’s not to love about this NYC Sub Shop»

Every young grain dreams of growing up to be made into the bread they use for their sandwiches… This place has been one of my favorites since I moved here 13 years ago… I usually get the Midtown(chicken and marinara) but also love the Bronx… and the Cheesesteak… In the winter, they have great soups. Worth the prices… I think it’s about $ 13 for a HUGE sandwich…

What happened? Stopped by a few times lately, and the bread & peppers still rock, but the amount of meat on the subs has diminished. Three meatballs on a large Staten Island, a tablespoon of tuna on a half Battery, and pastrami only on half of a Park Ave… Don’t know if it’s just a couple of flukes or a sad casualty of a hurting economy, but the flaky bread and peppers can’t do it on their own…

Massive Meatball Sammiches!!! The most excellent meatball sub! Steak and cheese is pretty good but I do recommend getting extra meat. The manhattan has Genoa salami, ham and provolone cheese served warm = good stuff. A full sandwich, the largest size, is satisfyingly humongous. It can probably feed a family of four. I really like their fresh baked bread. I usually end up getting 2 different subs. Like a Meatball and A Manhattan.(Hey Look, I don’t get out here as often as I should so I gotta make the best of it, right?) This is a great place to replenish on all those burnt calories from skiing, snow boarding, kite boarding, hiking, or biking in the gorge. Or load up before you hit a brewery. Or stop for a extremely filling sandwich on a long trek Out east on I-84. A Great Highway Stop. There are other locations as well. I wish there was one closer to PDX. But Bend and Hood River are fine with me, it gives me another great excuse to get away from the city. Sitting on the picnic tables outside in great weather… soaking up the view… devouring a tasty Sandwich… One can see why this is a Fav spot of mine in Hood River. The Some of the Sandwiches travel pretty well too, for all you Campers, Road trippers, or drunk 3 am snack. Small Issues: They don’t cut their subs in Half(so just ask) Also, no salt and pepper packets(So just ask they have some behind the counter, but i usually have some in the truck) Do yourself a favor and check this place out!
