This restaurant is not ADA accessible. After my husband struggled up the stairs to get in, a nice waiter said we could eat in the pool room vs. climbing yet another flight of stairs. The owner/​manager came out and said that we could not dine there and had to go upstairs, even after we explained the situation. She was pretty rude about it. Our family ended up leaving and dining elsewhere in Hood River.

Big Horse was stop number four for us on the Breweries in the Gorge tour– a group of eleven breweries located from Stevenson to The Dalles.
It’s located in a neat building, with great views if you can manage to get a window seat. We didn’t have to wait too long for a table, and ordered a tasting flight to start things off.
As far as the beer goes, it was good, but a bit underwhelming for me compared to some of the other breweries in the tour. My boyfriend enjoyed everything though and had quite a few he especially liked.
After sampling the tasting flight, we ordered our food. Both plates came out promptly even though it was fairly busy. My pulled pork was tasty and came with a flavorful house bbq sauce. Fries were ok in my book, nothing to write home about though. The boyfriend ordered the wagyu beef burger and loved it.
As far as service goes, our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly and we didn’t find any of the staff to be rude or lacking in customer service abilities. My only complaint is that I never received a side of bbq sauce I requested from another waitress. Kind of a dropped ball there.
All in all, I’d say Big Horse is good, but not great. Still, if you’re in the area, I’d say give it a try. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Lunch (Rockfish tacos), beer (Badfish and Goesting) and dessert (brownie ala mode) were all very good. Nice view of Hood River and the Columbia from just about every seat. Despite what other reviews have said, service was excellent.

Good beer, poor service, mediocre food. We ordered a hamburger and soup. The burger sat out for ten minutes before it was served. We ascent it back and waited 20 more minutes. Very disappointed. Don’t bother walking up the hill.

No service. We were seated at the bar, given water and utensils and menus, then nothing. Tried to get the attention of three waiters after sitting there for 15 minutes, but were ignored so we left.

I’ve wanted to eat here for years, mostly because the building looks beautiful and I assumed the view would be killer. The view was good. Everything else = not fantastic. I asked the server to recommend a smooth, mellow beer, but she served me something really hoppy; not terrible, but not smooth. Our first server left halfway through our meal, but the new server forgot to bring out the salmon chowder we ordered as an appetizer. Our main meals were average– miso salmon for me, salmon fish and chips for my husband– but nothing spectacular. The restaurant was grubby, the paper menus were bent up and covered in smeared food, and the service was a little off. I won’t go back, especially because there are other great restaurant choices in Hood River.

In the past, I would have rated Big Horse much higher. Today, however, we brought a friend not just from out of town, but out of country, on the idea it would be a good meal. The beer was good, as always, although the waitress (very nice) not as knowledgable on it as should have been, but the food — not so much. We got there just before opening at noon. We were the fourth group in line (a group of three, after three other pairs) and seated. We got our food, which had obviously sat in the window far too long, as it was cold, and we received it well after not only the three groups prior to us got theirs — ATE — AND got their tabs! -, but also after two other groups seated AFTER us got their food, ate, and got their tabs. The burger was over cooked, the lamb was over cooked, and the sirloin did not rest before serving so the plate was all bloody.
I was embarrassed to have taken our friend there today, and I’ve gone to Big Horse for years. We did not want to make a scene, only apologized profusely to our friend. I know Big Horse can do better — today was not the «A» Team.

Got here had 1 drink and the was cut off after apparently having too much. Funny cause we didnt order food. Avoid the skinny chick with the fake painted on eyebrows.

Can’t do zero stars… but here’s the scoop. Just left this place never to return. Two beers into a walking tour, we ordered one beer each. We were gonna leave, and the host came over and told my buddy some ladies just bought him a beer.
After 20 minutes, the beer was brought out. I ordered another so he wouldn’t be drinking alone, and they stiffed me. Litterally walked away.
A few minutes later, the manager brought a check for our three beers and the complimentary beer. He then said we were too intoxicated as his server thought we were too intoxicated.
Yet they served another beer that wasn’t ordered and charged us for it. wtf?
Long story long, we had another server at a very popular brewery tell us to steer clear. Now I know why! Food was ok, beer was ok, all servers but one were ok… not sure what her malfunction was, but we will not be going back! Ever!
Cut off, but serve another… horrible service.

Terrible service. Ignored and left to find someone to take my beer order. Website says they always have a Kolsch on tap… Not even close to the truth. Such a sad experience all in the name of a «busy weekend». Well staff up and people will return and not just be first-​timers.

The staff and owners need to learn how to treat their patrons. This is the second time I have been inside this restaurant and both times I was treated poorly. I won’t be coming back.

Food was pretty good. Service was great. We were asked by several different people if we were doing ok or if we needed anything. The beer is solid for sure. We never waited too long for drinks, food, or the check. Jeff was very attentive without being intrusive. We will be back next time we come to Hood River.

We were disappointed. I had eaten here about three years ago and though it was very good. This time the food was okay but the service was terrible. We had a long wait then were served dishes we did not order. Had to wait again. We did catch happy hour so the prices were good.

Very passable food with decent beer and a nice view. Not quite five star material, but I’d go again.

Well the prowess of the building is eye catching, and that is a large contributor to the second star. We were driving thru Hood River after doing some sight seeing, and decided to give this place a try. Nice building as I said above, and the place has great potential… However, the management is doing a lackadaisical job at best; the speed of service, food quality, and wait staff coordination is pretty much nonexistent.
We arrived and waited about 15 minutes, before even being asked if we needed help (after watching numerous wait staff and the hostess walk right by us, and other customers as well). 20 – 25 minutes after arriving we were finally seated, which was excessive due to how many empty tables were there.
We ordered our food, and it arrived at least 30 if not 40 minutes later. I’ll touch on the highlights… The tortellini pesto came with a free pool of oil, the steak sandwich had no seasoning and was very bland, the pulled pork sandwich tasted like they used the sauce from baked beans to marinate the pork, and the fish and chips had as much flavor as the oil they were fried in but no more. One comical event was that most of the orders came with Cole slaw, which all but one of our party declined due to personal taste. However, when it arrived we thought that they had forgotten to put it on the plate. We asked our server, and she pointed to a small pile of purple cabbage on the plate and said «it’s right there». I’m sorry, maybe I’m just old school but I know there’s supposed to be more to Cole slaw than that and I don’t even eat the stuff! (see attached picture for a close up of their delicious «slaw»).
This is the second bomb of a decision in a row, so hopefully our next random pick is better? On a high note, nobody has gotten sick from the food we had here, so I’ll count my blessings. As far as Hood River restaurants go, you’d find more flavor and better service at any fast food place. Sweet view from the 3^rd floor though, when you finally get in to see it :(

We walked in with 14 people and the worked hard to get us sat quickly. The food was good and the beer was great!

A fantastic location with a fantastic view! The wait staff was fantastic. Welcoming, judge free zone, courteous and respectful. Got our food in a timely order as well as our drinks. I highly recommend the muscles and the salmon chowder!!!

Just stopped in for a quick lunch. Pleasantly surprised! I had the Seared Ahi Sandwich on a GF bun. Absolutely incredible. My boyfriend had the pulled pork and was pleased as well. We shared a flight of beer, which was perfect.
Very speedy service. Would definitely return.

I came here with my girlfriend, out cruising hood river. I was amazed by the burger. This is probably one of the best burgers and fries I’ve had in years. She had the jerk chicken, of course I stole bites. Amazing. This is going to be my go to spot in the hood from now on.
