Yeah… I used to go here a lot… best old kine shave ice machine, with the sweetest elderly couple running the shop for years… They worked lots of hours, and I’m guessing they ‘retired’. Sold the business to someone else, and now the property has changed hands at least 3 times this since Summer of 2011. I’m not sure if the lady who has the shop now sells shave ice products or not. Have to try her out… @Candi K. — It was the best shave ice in downtown! Last time I was there, the couple seemed tired, and I’m assuming they just retired. Hoping that nothing terrible(illness or death even) precipitated the store closure… … but I’m still a fan. Gotta make sure I put my tagline on this spot, even if its not around anymore…

When I went back to this place in April 2012, it was gone! Does anyone know if they moved or just closed down?

I was walking on Fort Street Mall today and saw this place. I’m all about bubble tea and Taiwanese food, and I remember reading about this place but couldn’t remember if what I read was good or not. So I tried it anyway… Since I had already bought my lunch, I just got a kumquat iced tea, and they blended it. What??? Iced tea is not BLENDED!!! Plus they put way too much lemon in it(so sour!), and not enough kumquat flavor. So the guy made me another one with less lemon, and I told him not to blend it — just pour it over ice. He still blended it though(without ice) and then poured it over ice. He said that blending it mixes up the flavor. Can’t you just shake it up or stir it? Whatever!!! I tried it again, and it had more kumquat flavor. But not sweet enough. I didn’t want to make him make me another one. Anyway, it’s not like my usual drink from City Café. They also didn’t have aiyu jelly or dried plum seed to put in the tea. I’ll give this place one star for the price. It’s pretty light on the wallet. A little over 2 bucks for a drink. If I really liked my drink, I’d consider giving it another star, but I may skip this place next time I’m on Fort Street or try the shave ice that everyone says is good. Or, I’ll I think I’ll just stick to my favorite and trustworthy City Café!!! BTW — the whole time I was there, not one person came in or out of the store! I don’t think I even saw a peek in. And it was about lunch time. Hmmmmmm…

I almost want to knock off another star for the fact that the store is way too small, and that bulk orders of shave ice always take a reallyreallyreally long time for the employees(also the owners???) to fill. But then I remember how much I enjoy eating the super cheap, strawberry /lychee /vanilla flavored shave ice with mochi balls, vanilla ice cream and condensed milk — and the claustrophobia /impatience doesn’t seem so bad anymore =D

Had some red bean/mochi ice. The mochi is exactly how I like it. Something about Waiola’s one I find strange. The shaved ice was light and fluffy. But there was some weird taste to it. I couldn’t figure out what it was(milk, sugar?) but it tasted old or just unpleasant to me. towards the end i just ate the red bean and mochi.

I give this place 4 stars for their shave ice. I have never tried anything else… but there’s no need! Because the shave ice is all I ever want when I walk past this place! I think this IS the best shave ice in town, and(since the last disappointing time I went to Matsumotos a few weeks ago) is now my favorite on the whole island! The syrups are excellent — not too sweet, stays on the ice, and tastes JUST like the flavor(not just colored sugar water). The mochi balls are soft and yummy. The ice cream is tasty. But once, they had vanilla bean ice cream — that was sooooo good. but it must’ve been a fluke because that was the only time. It’s just regular yellowish vanilla. If they start using vanilla bean ice cream I will add 5 more stars!!! I think about getting a shave ice from here every day I’m at work…

I was a little skeptical walking into this hole in the wall place. But after one bite, my worries were gone. The place isn’t much to look at, and I had some difficulty understanding the guy’s accent, but the deserts they have there are fantastic. Get the strawberry shave ice with vanilla ice cream and mochi balls with condensed milk. It’s fantastic!

The owner and workers here are very rude plus their drinks and food are not good ATALL! There are other places with much better shave ice and smoothies and drinks.

I’m always on the lookout for Taiwanese-style shaved ice, so I gave it a try at Yummy Ice Garden. They have a good selection of toppings and syrups, and I thought the shaved ice I had tasted good for what you can get in Hawaii, but still, it was no comparison to the real deal. Maybe it just tastes better in Asia.

My husband and I went to Yummy Ice Garden for a refreshing momi(pearl) milk tea. This place is considered to have the best shave ice in the Downtown area. I think we have to try the shave ice because the momi drink wasn’t that great. Check out the pictures!
