I always say I’m going to try something new, but I always end up getting their cold udon. It is perfect on hot days and is always cooked perfectly. The noodles are never soggy, and the toppings are delicious. Parking is a little hard — there are 3 spots in front of the tents, but otherwise, it is street parking.

The mushroom chicken is amazing! Also recommend the pork ginger don. Everything I tried there has been very good and the staff are always super friendly.

Bought the NY steak plate w/ponzu sauce. Yummy for my tummy. The steak was tender and cooked just right. I would go back and try their mushroom chicken next time I go there for lunch.

Mushroom chicken is true to the reviews. Lots of flavor and good portions. Also tried the hayashi rice– delicious. It is a super flavorful Japanese beef curry. Would order both any day. Yum!

I have never had anything from here that wasnt AWESOME! Obviously, the #1 is the Mushroom Chicken, but the Kakiage is winnahs, the Beef Hayashi is great, and the wife loves the Ponzu Steak. If you try this place based on this review, 1) what took you so long? and 2) You’re Welcome…

Other Unilocalers are right about the price being in the high range, especially if can soda is a dollar, but quality of the food is pretty good coming from a food truck. I ordered their soba ramen and the mushroom chicken. The favor and freshness are there, and to me that is what matters. I have no complaints, came here for the first time, and I was satisfied.

A little hard to find, but definitely worth trying out! I recommend the cold udon if you’re feeling like something light. It has the perfect combination of veggies, carbs and meat! The udon has a perfect texture. Mushroom chicken was not bad too but a little heavy l. The pasta salad it comes with is fun to eat too :) definitely will come back for the cold udon !

This is our weekly go-to and the love affair with the mushroom chicken plate goes on! The garlic ahi plate is good and I love the soba salad plate with chicken! The guy who runs the truck is so nice and friendly and orders are filled quickly.

Freaking fantastic!!! I ordered the mushroom chicken to go and OMG! They packed the sauce on the side so the chicken stays crunchy. It is so delicious! The chicken is served katsu style, it is nice and crunchy plus has some seasoning to it not just plain. The mushrooms are chunky and slightly underdone but I think it adds to the dish. All topped on a bed of white rice(the rice is nicely done, not too soft and not too al dente… just right) served with spiral Mac salad and side salad. Hubby ordered the beef stew which was the thinly sliced shabu meat in their stew sauce. Again since it was to go so the sauce was served on the side. It included 3 huge scoops of rice, side spiral Mac and side salad. And it was bomb too! So delicious! They had assorted udons, sobas and don buris, totally gonna try their spicy udon next time! Picnic style dining, adequate shade so your not baking in the sun. Only slight is the parking.

I’ll start off by saying I’m biased. This is the only food truck I’ll venture out to when it’s not Eat the Street or Makers and Tasters and what not. Reason being is that it’s conveniently located near my home, so it’s very easy for me to take out and take it home so I can enjoy it in my apartment. It’s definitely too hot to eat at the actual food truck. They have a good amount of tents set up, but unless it’s a breezy day, it’ll be too hot for me to handle! My favorite items are the spicy cold udon and mushroom chicken. The spicy udon isn’t very spicy, but it’s very flavorful and has an abundance of various ingredients in the bowl. It’s great for a sunny hot day! The mushroom chicken is my sisters favorite and we tend to share these two items together. Very delicious and mushroom chicken is just a classic tummy filler! I would definitely recommend to check out this place if you haven’t! The owners are so nice and that just adds to the whole experience.

It’s a Monday morning. I’m tired, I’m not fully awake and I’m trying to entertain this hungry stomach that won’t shut up. The stomach didn’t feel for another day of Mcdonalds and the sushi place across the street was still closed and the supermarket next door didn’t have a variety of meals that appealed to me. So I’ve decided after crossing the highest mountains and crossing the seven seas, the sweat was worth it all after finding this hidden food truck. A coworker of mine was on a mission to try something close to new without having to spend an arm and a leg. I agree. I wanted something basic but filling enough to last until lunch time. They are located on the next street over from Back Alley Café. We didn’t miss the only white food truck on this street. We over heard a couple of coworkers get all sorts of delicious foods from here. So we decided to try their breakfast for $ 5. The portion is a mini size; however, it was enough for my portion of rice, bacon, scrambled egg and Portuguese sausage over white furikaki rice. If you are feeling for a whole cow, probably this is not the right option for you. For lunch, from another time. My department decided on take out. I’ve had the opportunity of trying their Mushroom Chicken. This is a pretty generous option for the price of $ 9. With this lunch plate, you will get a good amount of crispy chicken with mushroom gravy over your white rice with real mushrooms and greens. It was worth it and made me super full. My next try will probably be the Hayashi Rice Plate for $ 8.50 or the Samurai Donburi for also $ 8.50 **Street parking only and don’t forget to bring cash.** No plastic form of payment will be accepted here. They also have outdoor seating with awning. Unless it’s winter time in Hawaii, expect to be sweating.

There are three simple reasons why people should visit this place. 1. Exceptional food(for under $ 10). I had the salad plate with soba noodles and just about died. The crispiness of the wonton strips perfectly balanced the soft noodles, and the best part? It only costed $ 8 for a huge plate of soba noodles. 2. Awesome service. The guy in the truck was extremely friendly and helpful. I couldn’t find the truck, so I gave him a call. Found him. 3. Convenient. Stopped by while waiting for my car to get washed at the gas station next door. Don’t miss out on this little gem and check it out!

Let me start by saying that I typically do not like eating at food trucks because there is usually no seating or very limited seating. That being said, I went to Yajima-Ya with a friend who wanted to grab something fast before going to the airport. There are three parking spaces directly in front of a few tables which are shaded by huge umbrellas. The food truck is located to the back of the small lot and looks like a permanent fixture. I was pleasantly surprised by the very friendly and efficient staff and the large picture menu board. It doesn’t surprise me that it is Japanese themed and therefore they have a picture menu. Frankly, I think all restaurants should have a picture menu because often the descriptions don’t match what you’re getting. In this case, the food was well prepared and of course because it’s Japanese style, matches the picture. I had the mushroom chicken which was swimming and gravy and therefore delicious — definitely not a low cal meal. I’m looking forward to returning to try something else.

What a great discovery! My parents actually brought my sisters and I here one day when we were all off of work and school.(Which is actually saying something since my dad is a really picky eater and sticks to his usual spots.) It’s so refreshing to find a place in town where I can find good comfort food without having to sell my first born to pay for it.(Okay, I don’t have kids but you know what I mean) There are maybe two stalls where you can park or you can just find street parking. There are several tables and tents where you can enjoy your meal. My dad LOVES their mushroom chicken and my mom loves their gyu-don. I’ve tried a few of their other dishes such as their hayashi rice, their different udon meals and I haven’t come across anything I didn’t like! Always an enjoyable meal =) Prices per plate range between $ 8-$ 10 or so and the man working is always so nice and friendly.(What’d you expect?!) Definitely a place to try if you haven’t been here yet.

Picked up my car from Sam’s Club after getting new tires and before heading back to the office, made a quick judgment of getting lunch from here. I’ve read and heard from friends about their signature mushroom chicken plate and being a first timer, I got that plate to-go. It was very good and I was speechless after taking that first bite! Good size portion of pan fried chicken with a hint peppery flavor served over a bed of white rice, green salad and Japanese style potato salad. The mushroom gravy was packed in a separate container from the plate. The gravy(with large chunks of fresh mushrooms) was rich and creamy which I then smothered it all over the chicken and rice… it was simply SENSATIONAL&SEDAP = YUMMY in Malay :) I’ll definitely go back to try it again or order other items on their menu! Parking is a little tight here. There are only three stalls fronting the truck and the rest is street parking, which is not that easy in this area during the week.

I will definitely come back to this little food truck to try some of their other offerings because the guy who works the«front» of the truck is so nice. This is literally a food truck with a few tables covered by a tent, on a tiny gravel lot. But they said the food was good, so I stopped by for a super quick lunch. Luckily I scored one of the three parking spaces in front of the seating area. I trusted the Unilocal reviewers who raved about the mushroom chicken, but it wasn’t mind-blowing amazing food IMHO. I liked the potato salad and the fresh spinach with ponzu-ish dressing. The chicken came on a bed of rice and the mushroom sauce came in a separate container. Nice touch; I liked dipping my chicken in the sauce instead of having the chicken and rice all drowned in it. The mushrooms were delicious, but I found the sauce to be not very inspiring… kinda reminded me of those soup packet seasonings for some reason… Next time, I think I’ll call in an order, come with a friend to get dropped off so I won’t have to worry about finding parking and taking the food to-go instead of eating under the tent. It wasn’t that it was dirty or anything. I just think it would be a nicer environment to eat in your office or at home.

Yajima-Ya! I can’t help but feel happy saying this out loud! It takes me back to my Japan Trip where at the train stations, the workers would yell the name of the city in a cheery voice. Yajima-Ya is a food truck located across the street from McDonalds on Sheridan Street. Parking can be tight as mentioned by other Unilocalers. I think you can fit maybe 3 cars tops in the gravel lot or just 2 depending on how others park. :P The food is good ol’ comfort udon. I love the soba/udon bowls and wish they were a tad bigger. Not a lot, just a bit! Or maybe if he sold side orders of shrimp tempura, I’d be down for that too :) but no matter what I always seem to come back with the partner in crime. I usually get the spicy cold udon which is oh so yummy. But in honest, everything I’ve ordered at Yajima-Ya is delicious! The mushroom chicken is good and I appreciate that he separates the mushroom gravy from the chicken so it won’t be soggy by the time you dig in. The special ahi that he makes is huge and definitely filling. We can’t forget that he also serves an oh so yummy in my tummy breakfast. 3 strips bacon, 4 slices Portuguese sausage, fried egg and furikake rice for $ 4? Yes please! And don’t forget to grab an iced coffee to go too :) Yajima-ya is your good ol’ Japanese comfort food done right :)
