We came to this neighborhood gem for dinner before a show. I shared the 1010 Chopped Salad($ 12), which was perfect because the portions were huge! The salad had chopped shrimp, avocados, tomatoes, and sweet corn over a bed of romaine and spring mix and tossed with tarragon vinaigrette. All the ingredients were super fresh. For my entrée, I got the Grilled Wild Salmon($ 33) cooked rare. The filet was served nearly sashimi style… maybe a bit too rare! Underneath the salmonm were local vegetables(bell peppers, carrots, squash) and green coconut curry(they called it the Singapore sauce) and a scoop of jasmine rice on the side. The salmon was really fatty so I couldn’t really eat much after a couple bites. The fish was very fresh again. I also tried a bite of the 1010 Burger($ 16). I would definitely order this if I came here again! The ground beef patty was slightly overcooked, but the brioche potato bun was so yummy. The House fries were crispy and hot.

Cyndy’s Bottom Line: Great location to have dinner if you are heading to a performance at Neal S. Blaisdell center. 3.5 stars=food 5 star service from Sky!!! We met friends for our annual Christmas get together. Received excellent service from Sky! He kept our water glasses full, took numerous group pictures and was very attentive throughout the entire night and beyond closing. Mahalo Sky! There is no corkage fee here. BYOB A number of us ordered the steak frites. My friend Naida and I wanted our steak done precisely med rare bordering on pink and rare. Sky was very receptive and ensured the the Chef would prepare it exactly as ordered. Bravo!!! We received our steak exactly as ordered and it was delicious! Juicy and flavorful! The frites were nicely fried golden. For dessert we ordered the cheesecake with blueberries, strawberries and crème anglaise. Yummy, light and cake like.

I wasn’t too keen on Le Guignol so was happy to hear that a new restaurant took its place. The menu looked good so we were pretty eager to eat here. Even more so since it’s really convenient being right across the street from the Blaisdell. We just stopped in for a quick bite before the awesome«Hooray For Hollywood» symphony concert and it was pretty crowded. We didn’t have reservations but were lucky to get one of the last two-tops open. We both ordered Caesar salads and unfortunately they were both severely under dressed. It was pretty much like eating plain chopped up romaine with some croutons for crunch. We did mention it to the server and they were more than happy to replace them but we were kind of in a time crunch so we declined. I did think some of the food that was going by looked pretty good, though. The salad was poor but the service was great. That definitely makes a difference in making me want to return to give them another try.

We went with a group today for lunch and had a enjoyable time. I’m glad to finally see the BYOB without a service charge. Service was very good. On to the food… The butternut Squash Soup needed seasoning based on the 5 of us testing it. But was easily corrected with Salt, Pepper and Tabasco. My Hamburger ordered Med Rare was Med but no big deal. The Fries weren’t hot but warm which I was not happy about and didn’t eat half of them for that reason. My wife enjoyed her Philly Beef Sandwich but she’s a light eater so if your hungry it may not be enough food by itself. Our friend had the Chopped Salad and finished every bite. Winner! The Shrimp Scampi was good but the shrimp looked small so 5 probably wasn’t going to suffice for a hungry person. Otherwise the taste was good. The Bread pudding with blue berries was very good. Winner! Look forward to trying Brunch.

I always wondered about this tiny little café across of Thomas Square now that its under new ownership. Its in a unique spot and I kind of like that its off the beaten path. A friend and I made reservations for lunch. Based on the crowd, I would recommend you plan ahead. Its a comfortable and charming restaurant with indoor and outdoor patio seating. Unfortunately if you’re outdoors the traffic noise from King Street can get a little loud. The staff was very friendly and prompt with service, which always makes a good impression. My friend had the daily special which she loved: pan fried onaga with veggies and jasmine rice. I went for the French onion soup and a chopped salad with shrimp on mixed greens with tomatoes, corn, etc. — both were tasty and perfect for an afternoon meal. Here’s my tip: check out the dessert menu before you order your meal! I was full and when we saw the dessert options I WISHED we saved some room for a treat. Seems like perhaps desserts are a specialty — guess we will have to come back again!

This is a cute little indoor/outdoor café in the Medical Arts Building across the street from Tompkins Square Park. You’d never know it was there unless you were visiting Weinstein Pharmacy, as I was, or one of the other medical offices in the building. That’s a shame as the location is very nice with outdoor seating and a view of the park. The menu is mostly new American style cuisine but they have some Thai Coconut Curry and other non-American dishes too. The Vegetable Pasta is quite tasty and I will definitely eat here again. The service is also exceptional and hats off to Dr. Weinstein for putting it all together.

When I was 11, we went on a family trip to Vietnam and I insisted us spending a dinner at a shopping mall food court to eat spaghetti and meatballs. Out of anything I could eat — phở, phở, more phở, or even a smattering of chicken rice, but no, it had to be spaghetti and meatballs. Justifiably, my mom was pretty annoyed at me. Totally not worth it too, because it wasn’t even that good. 10+ years later, my mom still brings it up from time to time. Some things never change. Against better judgement, I decided to fulfill my cravings and order the Thai coconut curry. The one singular item on the menu that stood out like a sore thumb amongst all the other bugers, salads and sandwiches. Whatever, cravings be cravings, k. What I got was closer in consistency to a stir fry rather than a curry. It was piled high with veggies — mostly bell peppers(yum!) and onions. There were pieces of chicken here and there, but they were extremely overcooked and super dry. Think grocery store rotisserie chicken, but even dryer than that. There wasn’t a lot of sauce to go with the rice, and what sauce I did have was extremely bland. While it’s definitely not the worst curry I’ve ever had, for $ 12 I expected a lot more. The restaurant itself is really cute – offering indoor and outdoor seating. In order to accomodate our large group, we were seated inside, but definitely sit outside if you can! The patio is shaded so that you can enjoy your lunch or dinner and enjoy the weather as well! I liked the various artworks that fleck the walls, and the clean and simple décor. The service is friendly, but it was a little awkward that 7 out of the 8 of us all got our food at the same time, while the straggler waited 10 mins or so for his burger to arrive. At that point, most of us were halfway through our meal. I hate being negative, but I felt a little dissappointed dining here. And no, I don’t think that my oddball menu choice was to blame! For the prices that they charge, my expectation bar was set pretty high. A little salt and better timing can go a long way. The brownie dessert with mac nut gelato redeemed them a little, but brownie ala mode can almost never do wrong. Gelato, especially!

W Bistro is a small little restaurant tucked in the corner of an old building across from the Blaisdell. It’s very casual dining for lunch with an open dining room and outside seating on the lanai. The waiter who helped us was very friendly and when he talked about the food his genuine excitement and affinity for it was clear. I ordered the French dip and it was delicious. The roll was lovely and the flavor of the jus was lip smacking… and there was a nice spicy baby arugula on there as well. I also ordered a side salad which was also a nice variety of veggies. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was that you do order your sides ala carte… so if you order a sandwich it’s just the sandwich. I would actually prefer a smaller salad that comes with the sandwich and a small price increase on the sandwich. I would definitely come back here and my trainer KP says after 3 weeks of good training we can share one of their bread puddings which sounds amazing!

What a quaint place for lunch or dinner. Cross your fingers it’s not a hot/humid day. I’ve been driving by this place on my way home and the business sign is what catches my eye every Monday to Friday. We attempted to book dinner here on Valentines day just because it was out of the way and still new. EPIC fail! They were booked which made me want to try it even more. My better half is usually the one who makes the call of where we can eat(really he does have the last say… for real hahaha). –There’s ample parking and the bistro does validate. –Metered stalls are also available on the street. –They do have a descent amount of tables, but don’t expect to sit at a 4 top if there’s only two of you. Be kind and please sit at a two seater please unless all the tables are full then have at it. Lunch please! Finally came here for lunch and just walked-in and happily for us there was tables. Of course the day was beautiful and the warm gentle breeze of Honolulu was gently streaming through this lovely place. There’s a few tables along the outside of the bistro and don’t fret, they do have large umbrellas to shield that beautiful sun away from your food. But don’t mind the people walking off the street and whisking by your table… Little tacky but that’s on them and not the bistro. Deco is modern and gives off a calming affect. Our waiter quickly attended to us and gave us ample time to look over the menu. He spoke in such a calm and non-rushing tone that I did notice and appreciated that professionalism. Of course I ordered the salad and while it was great I had wished that I ordered what my better half had. «The pork» sandwich. Seriously you need to taste this handful of goodness. One bite of this juicy, smoke flavored pork sandwich is amazing… Parts of the pork is crispy! The bread used is soft and perfect for this bundle of goodness. Maybe I should tell the waiter there’s a hair in salad and get a pork sandwich too!(kidding this place is clean) I’m amazed that this place hasn’t been visited more often by the well know social groups. I’M coming back W Bistro! Your pork sandwich is heavenly!

W Bistro At 1010 is a small, open air restaurant serving lunch and dinner. Caddy corner from the Blasidell Concert Hall and a short block away from the Honolulu Museum of Art, the W Bistro could be your lunch plans before a matinée show or walk through the museum. I tried the Shrimp and Artichoke Flatbread($ 10) and a Side House Salad($ 4) from their Lunch Menu. The Flatbread fell flat for me. It had exactly what they said it would, some feta, some artichoke hearts(packed in water from a jar), a few kalamata olives and a few pieces of shrimp, but somehow it didn’t come together. It lacked the wow factor you would hope would come with these ingredients and felt like disjointed toppings on pizza crust. The Side House Salad was fresh, a good enough basic salad. They get busy for lunch and service can get a little stressed. If they are busy and you still want to try them, get a take out, there are plenty of shady spots nearby for a picnic.

I am definitely adding this to one of my Top 5 favorite restaurants in Hawai’i. After having this restaurant on our queue for months, my boyfriend and I finally ate there for his birthday and we were not disappointed. There’s parking in the medical building parking area if you enter from Young Street. It’s that or street parking so I would recommend entering from there. From the outside, this place does not stand out visually but the interior is decorated by a few modern, local art pieces. The only downside for me was 1) the flies, which occasionally bothered our eating area because we are across the street from the park and 2) don’t sit facing the sun around sunset. We both loved the food. Since it was our first time we tried everything that we could stomach at the time. On our list of likes were(1) the beet and pear salad — I would consider making this a meal next time because it’s tasty AND large enough to share,(2) the BBQ grilled flatbread,(3) seared sea scallops,(4) the white chocolate and blueberry bread pudding, and(5) chocolate brownie and macadamia nut gelato. My boyfriend liked the seafood curry but at that point I think I was too full to enjoy it. We both agreed that we would probably not order the pork belly next time because it wasn’t as flavorful as the other dishes. Though don’t get me wrong, there WILL be a next time. And then some.

This is a nice little restaurant that gets very popular before performances at the Blaisdell concert hall. I went to see a symphony concert and made reservations for that night a couple hours before the concert at W bistro. We got here while the sun was still up, and it was shining into the restaurant, not encouraging me to take almost any of their dozen or so tables. The host convinced us that the sun would only be blinding for a few minutes more, so we sat outside. He was right, and it ended up being nice outside after the sun went down. The service was excellent; waiters and waitresses were checking on us and being friendly and attentive the entire time we were there. Sitting outside is nice if you don’t mind the breeze and noise if there are a lot of people. We ordered the Brie, grape and pesto flatbread($ 9), the dynamite artichoke bake($ 13), a watermelon salad($ 12) and a steak frites($ 36). We started with the dynamite bake. It was flavorful and cheesy and I liked the broccoli in it. The flatbread was also good. The steak frites was good, but for $ 36, I might get my steak elsewhere or just make it at home. The watermelon salad was just that. It was supposed to be a watermelon feta salad, but we figured out as we were eating it that it was missing a pretty important component, the feta. It was still a decent salad, but in hindsight it would have been exponentially better with some feta. When we brought it up, they were apologetic and comped our dessert. The brownie with Mac nut gelato and strawberries is excellent. I wish there were more strawberries, but I’m a fruit connoisseur and love copious amounts of fruit with everything. Come here for the excellent customer service and yummy appis and flatbreads. It’s byob too, but they charge a $ 10 corkage fee. Come here especially if you are attending a concert for the nice ambiance and wining and dining with your fellow fanchy shmancy concert goers especially because you are more likely to score great street parking and not have to deal with blaisdell parking. I like the word especially. :)

Had lunch with friends here. The setting is quite nice, with some outdoor seating overlooking Thomas Park and the Blaisdell. The staff were very nice and helpful. The food was good. We had a variety of items I had the steak sandwich, and it was good but seemed a little small. My fiends has one of the flatbreads, the Thai coconut chicken curry and the burger. All seemed happy with their meal.

Disclaimer: This review was for my visit a few months back. I haven’t been back for another visit yet, so I’m not sure if things have changed. Sorry for the late review. Service was a little weird. And by weird, I mean. strange, different, and not too professional. This is an actual«nicer» restaurant, not a fast food joint or plate lunch place, so I expected more professional service. Our server wasn’t too helpful and she wasn’t very knowledgeable. Or, maybe her explanations of the dishes kind of sucked??? IDK. BTW/FYI — I can read. Just saying. We asked for her recommendation(s) and clarity of some of the dish descriptions, not for her to read the menu to us. Like I mentioned earlier, I can read. Quite well, actually. She also used local, borderline-Pidgin jargon with us.(Do I look that moke?) I can’t remember her exact words, but I remember my reaction — I was quite shocked. Food-wise, my SS and I enjoyed everything we had. The salmon was incredibly silky. Like, whoa. I’m not salmon’s biggest fan, but this one was excellent. The steak was tender and juicy. Not super out of the ordinary, but still flavorful. VERDICT I enjoyed the food at W Bistro at 1010. It’s not one of the top restaurants on my list, but I would be back to give it another whirl or two. I have heard that the service had since improved, but haven’t been back to comment on it yet.

I’m glad that W Bistro at 1010 opened where Le Guignol used to be, in the Medical Arts building, conveniently located across from the Blaisdell. There’s an inexplicable dearth of dining options within walking distance of Honolulu’s little entertainment hub, so of course any addition is welcome. I feel bad giving this place fewer than 4 stars, as their service is very, very good. Our waiter last night was attentive and polite without being overbearing, and I loved that he said«you’re welcome» every time I said«thank you,» because nobody does that anymore! Buuuuuuut. ..(you knew that was coming). .. I have a few objections that stop me from giving W Bistro higher marks: (1) An unusual pricing range. Their dinner menu is slightly limited in terms of options, which is understandable. What I don’t get about it is that, within the entrée section, you have a $ 16 burger(which comes with a decent amount of really good fries, by the way) and a couple other items in that price range, but then the other chef’s specialty items and fish are all about $ 30+. Not fine dining prices, by any means, but I just felt like there weren’t too many affordable(in my head) options, especially considering… (2) For some items, like the Caesar salad and the vegetable pasta, you can add a protein for an additional $ 4. Reasonable, right? Not so much when $ 4 only buys you TWOPIECESOFSHRIMP.(Shrimp, not prawns, by the way — I would totally get it if they had been prawns.) I get that shrimp is not the cheapest food in the world, but I’d be embarrassed to serve that amount. Don’t get me wrong: The taste of the food is quite good. The teenager really liked her burger, and it, along with the fries, seemed to be a really decent value for $ 16. I only wish I could’ve said the same for the $ 22 I spent on the vegetable pasta with two pieces of shrimp. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that the kitchen here knows what it’s doing in terms of flavors — it’s more like whoever determines the pricing might want to reconsider strategy a little bit.

Lunch here today came with mixed results. I ordered the 1010 Burger, and it was definitely a quality restaurant burger. It came with a 1⁄3 pound patty, I ordered it medium-well, with some mixed lettuce, cheese, and a nice garish of red ginger daikon which really worked well. The burger itself was tasty and for $ 9 it’s a pretty good deal for a restaurant burger. I would put it up there with Epic’s restaurant burgers. Now the downside. Our party ordered 3 sides, and only 2 came out. The waiters were not only busy, but forgetful and distracted. I also ordered a tomato bisque to go with the burger, but it never made my table as well(I was looking forward to it too!). I asked for Grey Poupon and it was lost in the abyss of lunch crowd waiting table motion. Our waiter apologized profusely, and we told him that he did not have to bring out the one remaining side, my bisque and the Grey Poupon(burger tasted fine without it). He comped us the two sides(a little Greek rice appetizer and potato salad), so that was helpful. Still, it was really weird how disorganized they seemed to be. I wonder if we caught them on a bad day, but it wasn’t just one thing that they overlooked. While the food I had was good, the way the service was handled confused me as much as the judges who gave Adelina Sotnikova the Gold Medal over Kim Yuna in Sochi 2014. Hopefully they are better with the dinner rush and those filling up before heading off to The Lion King at Blaisdell Concert Hall, across the street.

From the early reviews of this restaurant and the glowing feedback by fellow Unilocalers I was expecting greatness, instead, I was left with disappointment. Our dinner was a Friday evening around 8:30 pm, we brought two bottles of wine in order to properly give our first dining experience a fair shake. While they say they are BYOB they do charge a corkage, at $ 10 though it is very reasonable and they only charge this one time regardless of the number of bottles. We started with the Brie, Grapes, Macadamia Nut Pesto and Crispy Shallots Flatbread($ 9) along with the Seared Sea Scallops($ 16). The flatbread was fantastic, great flavors and overall just a perfect bite with the sweet and savory combination. The scallops were fantastic as well though I felt the ginger in our sauce was a bit overpowering. Dinner is where things took a turn for the worse, which I will go into detail but let me just sum it up by saying that the prices are TOO high for what was served. The Blackened Mahi Mahi($ 27) was not my understanding of a «blackened» preparation, I was expecting spices and a good crust almost to the point of being… well… blackened. Instead I had a well peppered, pan seared Mahi Mahi. The Seafood Coconut Curry($ 32) came with two pieces of shrimp, one scallop and about six pieces of bite sized fish. For $ 32. Really? This is supposed to be a signature dish so I expected it to be pretty amazing. It was okay. In a location with a strong Asian population when you say«curry» I would expect it to have some heat. A little heat. This isn’t Montana after all. The other pet peeve was the description of the dish included broccolini and yellow peppers, both of which were missing from our dish. Why is your signature dish missing signature ingredients? Fine, 8:30 pm on a Friday night perhaps you were out, except I’ve noticed a lot of other pictures being posted showing generic broccoli. At $ 32 for this dish, it would have been nice to have been told upon ordering that you were out of two of the included vegetables. Service was amazing, which is why I’m giving them 3 stars and also why I am returning to give them a second chance next month. For now, I will continue to recommend 12th Avenue Grill to my friends, family and clients. My final little rant, the late night menu only has one item that is discounted(the burger) and everything else is regular dinner menu pricing. I’m not 100% sure on this but other restaurants that do a late night menu offer deals on most of the items especially since this doesn’t begin until 10 pm.

I am sorry to be the bearer of average news, but I left here feeling very underwhelmed and let down. I feel like I had completely different takes on the dishes that other Unilocalers on here reviewed! I know this place is new, but I think it definitely could improve on their food. Their service is fine– no problems there(which usually isn’t the case for recently opened establishments). The bottom line is that I think the prices are too expensive for the quality of food. I went for dinner service and lunch is cheaper for the pretty much the exact same thing :(:( $ 12 Caesar salad= too much dressing. Since when do caesar salads have onions? Ick. $ 12 Beet and pear salad= good! Nice mix of fruits + beets, lettuce and I liked the oats on top. In general the salads are a pretty good size portion. $ 16 scallop appetizer= two puny scallops. Kabocha purée was nice and overall the flavors were great but it’s definitely an appetizer size portion. $ 13 pork belly appetizer= small block of HARD and tough pork belly. Not pleased. $ 16 burger. The general consensus on Unilocal was that this was good. HOWEVER, I was not impressed. Granted my grandma can’t have vinegar and sour things so she asked it to be served without the sauce(probably a mistake)… it ended up just tasting really plain. I’ll let this slide though and attribute it to the fact that there was no sauce. But then don’t they have any alternative seasonings??? $ 4SIDEORDEROFRICE!!! HOWISTHISEVENJUSTIFIABLE!!! The best bang for your buck is probably the flatbreads($ 13). I enjoyed the W Bistro flatbread, which was like a mini pizza with duck, hoisin sauce, onions, and cheese. If we didn’t share this though, I think I still would’ve been a little hungry with just my scallops. Somehow our bill came out to $ 100 for 3 people(not including tip) and I was like, wait, what did I just eat!!! There was no Wow factor or anything that I haven’t had before somewhere else. While I felt satisfied, it’s not a good sign that my grandma was still hungry after because she didn’t like her food… Lunch is probably a better option because the prices are more reasonable. I don’t think I’ll be coming here for dinner again anytime soon though!

OPEN Tues thru SUNDAYS! Closed Mondays. Cute place opened last week in the space that used to be Le Guignol in the Medical Arts Building across Thomas Square(corner of Victoria and King St). They’ve done a nice job transforming such a small space into a cozy eatery. If you remember how small the French place used to be, it’s still the same size but not as stuffy. This is a great weekday lunch option for those who work in the area.(They will even take your phone order and have it ready for you if you want to eat there without having to wait!) I’ve only tried the lunch menu because that is more in my price range, but this would also be a good place before or after the Blaisdell concert events, if you can afford it. HOURS Lunch Tue-Sun 11 – 2 Dinner Tue-Sun 5−9p or 11:30pm(*Fri-Sat late night menu) PARKING Weekday: they will validate half Weekend: free parking in Medical Arts Bldg lot PRICES Lunch $ 9−13/sandwich or entrée Dinner $ 18-$ 36/entrée FOOD Thai coconut curry($ 12) was good and fresh. The W flatbread($ 10) is a roasted duck caramelized onion mini pizza. They use a «BBQ Hunan sauce» as the base, which was too salty for us. It tastes like a hoisin plum sauce, so less is more in this case… and more is too much. They do sell desserts too like tiramisu($ 7) to satisfy your sweet tooth after the show or to give you that mid-day sugar rush you need to get through another day. BOTTOMLINE 1. I’d like to come back to try some of the salads for lunch. 2. Open on SUNDAYS. 3. Now you have a place to go to after the Bruno Mars concert.(which is on 4⁄18 and 4/19, hint hint)

Like I promised they opened yesterday(1⁄22) and I’m here today(1⁄23) giving them a day to get a bit more comfortable… I already had in mind what I wanted to try for Lunch and that was the Thai Coconut Chicken Curry with Jasmine Rice. Being I had to head back to the office I ordered it to take out, upon my short 1 block walk to my office I opened up my meal to be surprised that I wasn’t a Klutz and shook my meal into a unrecognizable mess it was beautifully laid out(see picture) with sprouts, carrots, broccoli, zucchini, peppers and the Chunks of Chicken soaking in the coconut curry. The curry was pleasantly fragrant and tasty with a hint of the coconut flavoring which wasn’t overpowering everything was not overcooked but done just right so I was quite happy with the curry, the curry wasn’t heavy but light and as I said earlier very fragrant nothing over powering but well balanced, haha am I repeating myself?! As you can see I added another star because I really liked the curry and would be more than happy to be back to eat it again. The only thing now is I’ll have to try some of the other items on the menu. The staff was friendly and helpful and the décor was nice with a showing of art from Eugene F. Savage. I’m looking forward to returning here again.
