UYE Breakfast Club: Pig & The Lady Brunch

What an excellent choice of venue for this UYE! I had not been to Pig & The Lady for months. I have tried several items off of their regular menu on previous visits so i was so happy to see that they had a special brunch menu!
I ended up ordering the Grilled Meat and Eggs. I had not had their version of this classic dish before and I just had to try it after seeing 12 hour brisket as one of the choices. The food took a little while to come out, but it was totally understandable considering that there were about 20 of us.
One thing that is a definite must if you have not done it before is a menu selfie! The back of the menus make the perfect prop to use to make you look half pig and half human (see pic).
It was so nice dining with so many friends. I left shortly after eating because I was off onto my next food adventure! I met up with my mom to have a Hawaiian lunch immediately after.
Thanks Maka for the hosting and organizing this event! It’s so awesome having a great meal with great people.

The Pig & the Lady is another one of those bookmarked places on my list that I can check off now, thanks to Maka K! As intriguing as their menu sounds, I’ve just never gotten around to finding peeps to go with, and check it out, so the Breakfast Club UYE was my perfect opportunity. We were so lucky to have Maka plan this for us! When we left, there was a looong line of people waiting to get in, and it was packed inside!
I like the décor and feel of The Pig & the Lady. It’s casual, with a very tongue-​in-​cheek sense of humor (see the pic of what happens when you hold up a menu to read it). It does get a little noisy, but they have a big space and can handle many. They’ve even planned ahead to have extra restrooms upstairs for when it gets crowded there, too :-)
What made my meal was the great company! Of course, with a long table, not everyone is within earshot, but those around me – David, Lyla, Paul, Ed & Daniel provided great conversation!

I am really beginning to understand the love of UYEs. You get to hang out with some awesome people, have great conversation and some yummy food! What more could you ask for? This was my first Breakfast Club UYE and it was perfection!
I’m a big fan of the Pig and the Lady and was stoked to finally try brunch. Maka had us preorder to help out with our large party but upon arrival we found out that the brunch menu was gone & they now serve lunch along with brunch specials. It totally worked out as we were second guessing our order all the way to the door heh, being a foodie makes picking hard!
P&L was super awesome to set us up at two of the family style tables connected so our large party of 18 or so could sit together. The lunch menu had yummy phos, curry, bahn mi’s & more. The brunch specials were lovely — ricotta pancakes or meat & eggs, which allowed you to choose thick cut bacon or brisket. Either way, winner! There were also some drinks to start the morning with a bang! My plus 1, my bf Matt M. & I are terrible at choosing so we ordered enough for a family. Sprouting seed salad, a french dip bahn mi with noodle soup, and both breakfast specials. I also ordered the English Garden drink special, a mix of gin, cucumber & mint. Cheers! The food was all amazeballs, we were big fans of all the specials. That thick cut bacon melted in my mouth! The ricotta pancakes were super moist. Enjoyed every bite!
It was so great to enjoy breakfast with such excellent company. Chatting with Auntie Nadine is always a happy bonus plus she tipped me off about the bathroom! ;) Great to see Paul C., Gary N. and Malia H., as well as meeting Adrienne B. and Dan O. I was lucky enough to sit & chat with Maka & new friends Hoku T. and Michael C. where I found we had many shared interests to chat about. Not often do I meet adults who like Harry Potter as much as I do! Can’t wait to see you all again, Harry Potter UYE will happen one day! :)

When I first saw this UYE Brunch and where it was act, I quickly jumped on the opportunity to eat there! Saw lots of amazing pictures of their food and couldn’t wait to try some of them! Thanks Maka K. for setting up the reservations, going in was smooth… especially since my plus 1 and I waited outside since 10:05am! lol, talk about troopers!
The food was amazing, design and interior of the restaurant is awesome! Great food with great company is always a plus! Glad I got to meet Unilocales I’ve never met before and bond over food and other fun stuff! I left happy and content, even though I ate a lot!

Firstly, THANK YOU to Maka K for organizing and planning such an enjoyable UYE. The event was full of good food, great company, many laughs, humorous stories, and a few Harry Potter fans (a bit more on that later in this review). I enjoyed myself very much and am thankful that Maka extended a kind invitation to be her +1. THANK YOU Maka for all your hard work and dedication to the Honolulu Unilocal Community, but also for your friendship as well.
Next, THANK YOU Paul C for the kind gesture/​gift in bestowing me with a lei to commemorate my recent birthday. Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated, thank you so much.
And now, with my thank you’s said and done, I just want to say I absolutely and positively agree with Nadine C: when you see an event that interests you, «you gotta JUMP on it!!!». When I initially saw the posting, I was honestly on the fence about attending since I’m currently working nights at my job. Brunch at 1030 seemed slightly early and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get up and make it to Downton in time. 22 «I’m in» votes later, I finally decide to attend only to find out the event was full and a waiting list was being compiled. Sadness I tell you. And therefore, I am extremely thankful to have been included as Maka’s +1.
As already stated, this event had no shortage of good food, good people, and wonderful conversations. It was nice to see so many faces bright and early on a Saturday morning: always great to see Malia H, Maka K, Gary N, Nadine C, Adrienne B, Paul C, and David T among others. Another aspect I enjoy about UYE’s is meeting other Unilocalers for the first time or IRL. It was just wonderful to meet Kristine C, Daniel, Brigitte S and her +1 Matt, and Hoku T and her brother.
While we waited for the food, there were various discussions/​conversations taking place around the table. I briefly discussed with Maka her upcoming Vegas trip, and asked if she finally decided on her foodie destinations in Sin City. I spoke with Nadine C about her upcoming UYE later this month, as well as offering my congrats on her well-​attended UYE last month. There was also a magical discussion about the Harry Potter movies, books, and theme park. It was so awesome to chat with Maka, Brigitte, and Hoku about this timeless series that chronicles his life from muggle to wizard. We talked about our dream to visit the theme park in Florida, our favorite book of the series, which movies were the most memorable, midnight release parties at bookstores, reserving copies of the books, and our shared sadness of the series’ conclusion. I think Brigitte said it best when she mentioned it was wonderful to have a Harry Potter discussion with adults as this was something she never experienced before. I quite agree!
Additionally, the food was just delicious. I chose from their brunch menu the grilled meat and eggs, which also included jasmine rice. I selected the grilled brisket for my entrée and I will just say that was amazingly good. In fact, I finished my entire dish in addition to one piece of Laotian fried chicken. I left this event a very full and satisfied Unilocaler.
BOTTOM LINE: Good food and even greater company! A terrific way to start the weekend for sure. Thank you Maka for planning such an awesome UYE!

When I saw this UYE posted and that it was on a weekend, I immediately knew I had to go. I had eaten at Pig & The Lady once before, and was a fan of their farmers market fare.
When Maka sent out the email advising we had to make our brunch selections prior to arrival my indecisiveness kicked in. Did I want my old stand by of P&L Phở? Did I want to live on the edge? Did I want to try something totally crazy? What was everyone else having? I finally decided on the savory Dutch baby and had «buyers remorse» Thursday and Friday as I had convinced myself it would be bad… but I was excited Michael C had agreed to eat the Laotian fried chicken with me.
The day of, Kristianne S. and I carpooled over and promptly found the most expensive parking spot ever (come on you didn’t think I could have a UYE without a parking issue did you?) and found the group and Maka with amazing news… the menu had changed and we could pick new food. It was like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow… the indecisive person’s dream… I could once again redebate with myself what to eat.
I ended up with the Laotian Fried Chicken and the Phở Ga Vien (chicken based with chicken meatballs and cracklings and a soft boiled egg). The food was great and although I expected the service may be a bit off due to the size of our party, service was 100% on point. We all never wanted for water, etc. and they knew exactly where each food item needed to go. For a group of our size I was very impressed with the execution of service and timing of everything. Would definitely not hesitate to go back with a large group again.
As with most UYEs while the food was amazing the company made it even better. I finally got to meet Dan O. who was visiting (but I think he should just stay here since it’s warmer), and Ms. B (don’t want to spell it wrong), and see Paul C, David T, Michael C, Gary N, Malia H, amongst many others I know I am forgetting to name.

I’ve been trying to make it to this place in forever! What a great first time for me and a better reason to come here. Getting here was almost an adventure. But so worth it.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Michael C for the very first time. We need to do happy hour soon! Got to talk a bit more with Daniel C, digging your style with the whiskey! So hardcore! Ruston, I was trying to find your sister on here but I do believe I need to search more. It was nice having the chance to talk about your funnel cakes. Wow, that’s so delicious! Nadine and Paul, loved having the chance to have breakfast with you guys after a nice mahjong sesh from the night before! Oh what a night! I really enjoyed not only the atmosphere of this place but my gosh, my food was excellent. I can’t wait to take some friends and family back here to explore their menu more. My Kauai Shrimp Bun was amazing!
Most of all, I can’t wait to come to another UYE. Thank you for having your UYE here Maka. Thank you for fitting me in too! What a great place for YEEPS and peeps that love food with lots of flavors in their dishes.

When you see an Event that you’re interested in, you gotta JUMP on it!!! That’s what I did when I saw this post!
I had been to this restaurant twice before, and really liked the food. I thought that I would enjoy it even more with fellow Yeeps, and yes, I did!
It was cool that all 18 of us fit on the long table towards the back of the room. I got to sit by Honored Out-​of-​Town Guest, Dan O. from Michigan, who was the anchor for one end of the table. The anchor for the other end of the table was the infamous «First to Review», Paul C. On my right, sat Gary N. who doesn’t know CPR (yet), so I was extra careful to not choke on my food while he was making me laugh! Across from me sat the Rock Stars, Adrienne B. and Krisitianne S. I had a gorgeous view!
One topic of conversation was the movie, «Big Trouble in Little China». I think I really need to see this movie… You must visit the restroom in this establishment to see the relation… (hint, hint)
It was nice to chat with Michael C, David T., Brigette & Matt, Teri Y., Maka, Hoku T. and her brother, Lyla & Ed, Kristine, Malia, and Daniel C. What a fun group! Makes the experience even better! Looking forward to the next Breakfast Club meeting! Thanks to Maka for hosting! Good job!

Gosh, I was so excited to be counted IN with this UYE Breakfast Club hosted by vivacious hostess, Maka K. When the UYE was announced, I quickly RSVP’d because it would also be another opportunity for me to dine at Chef Le’s The Pig & The Lady. In fact, I was so excited that I forgot to inform Maka that I wanted to bring +1, my husband. As the days went by, this event was proving to be so popular that a waiting list had formed yet, I still didn’t realize my forgetfulness, er, error. Fortunately, Maka was really «on top of things» since she noticed that I had only responded for myself. There were some cancelations so fortunately, now, I could breathe a sigh of relief by including my better half.
We arrived at just before the restaurant opened its doors and stood along the sidewalk with the other Unilocalers. Most attendees were familiar faces and we were all excited to be here to spend the morning together. We were seated at a large community table headed by Paul C. on one end and Dan O. (visiting from Michigan) at the other end. On our end, our breakfast mates were Paul C, David T, Teri Y, Daniel C and my husband. We could also converse across the table to Hoku T and Moa. Our waitress was quick to point out that they only had 4 breakfast specials but their full lunch menu was available to order from. Service was handled by at least 3 wait staff who attentively refilled our water glasses and brought our meals fresh from the kitchen. Time really flew by since we were all having so much fun. As the restaurant filled and a line of other anxious diners formed outside we took our cue to wrap up this breakfast event.

Another great UYE! Finally had an excuse to go to the Pig & the Lady’s brick and mortar location downtown. Sizable location with great brick bones and wood finish. Lot of Yeeps in attendance, it’s getting a little scary how many i recognize. Decided to get the French Dip Phở sandwich with the noodle soup upgrade. Wow, what a dish! Several large (than the regular one in the phở) pieces of very succulent beef brisket nestled in crunchy french baguette bread with pickled vegetables. The noodle soup is a larger version of the phở broth cup that you would french dip the sandwich into, but with rice noodles and vegetables added. This deconstructed phở in sandwich form works very well, and lets the meaty goodness of the broth/​stock shine through. As always the highlight of the UYE is meeting Yeeps I’ve known for a while as well as Yeeps I haven’t met IRL.
Props to Maka K, the host, and the waitress who kept all 20+ of our orders straight. One of the high points of my visit!

I must say I was a little worried thinking about coming here for the uye since I knew it was a large party and that would mean food would take a while and could get confusing but surprisingly with 18 people everything worked out great. The waitress was totally awesome with getting all our orders correct and getting them out.
There were some great brunch specials with grilled brisket, bacon and ricotta pancakes. But since I’ve gone pescetarian for Lent, I wasn’t able to try the specials and I’m not a ricotta pancakes fan too.
I got a fried egg and chicken fat rice (no meat in it but I had to have it… I know it’s a borderline item I’m sure), a fried egg and half of a salad with sprouting seeds. I enjoyed all of it! I will have to come back and try brunch when I go back to eating meat.
I also got to match some names with faces and meet some newer Unilocalers.

This was a nice breakfast get together in China town at the Pig & Lady for a great order for yourself off the menu with the added brunch selections for us Unilocalers.
It was nice to see the familiar faces as well as some new faces I hadn’t met as yet. Everyone seemed to enjoy each other’s company and all went off without a hitch.
Kudos to our waitress who did a great job handling the large crowd and thanks to Maka for visiting everyone at the table and making us feel welcomed. It was also nice not to have to wait outside to get into the restaurant, which is not uncommon for this popular venue.
The food was great and the company even better! Thanks Maka!

Just when I was wondering when Maka K. would have the next breakfast/​brunch UYE, I saw the posting and so glad I clicked «I’m in!» because this UYE also ended up with a waiting list. Waiting list for a UYE? Is this a trend in Unilocal Hawaii? I guess we shouldn’t be alarmed because of the awesome Yeeps in this community!
An intimate group of 19 peeps showed up at the ever so popular The Pig and the Lady to test their new brunch menu.
As usual, it was great seeing old faces and happy to see Michael C., whose birthday was just a few days ago. It seemed like days since I last saw our awesome hostess Maka K., Nadince C., Dan O. from Michigan, Hoku T. and her younger brother, Lyla D., Ed D., Daniel C., Kristine C. and David T. :p I don’t expect many to catch on to this! Always a great pleasure seeing Adrienne B., Brigitte S. and her BF Matt M., Gary N., Malia H., Teri Y. and Kristianne S. Hey, all Yeeps attended are all old faces of mine!
Had a blast socializing with my fellow Yeeps. Great convo, great food at an upbeat and trendy restaurant — — what more can one ask for?
I’ve said it in the past. UYE’s are great events to get to know fellow Yeeps and great friendships are developed.
