Under the IKoa Tree is such a cute store! I was at a nail salon next door and wanted to stop by here just to browse. I got greeted right away and offered assistance if needed but didn’t get bothered. I didn’t buy anything but there were some really cool stuff even for people who live in Hawaii. Everything is handmade by Hawaiian local artists, and the Koa tree items are beautiful.

Under the Koa Tree is 100% made in Hawaii! You can just feel the essence of Hawaii with their selection of art, woodwork, and gift items. They’re also a specialty store featuring fine koa accent furniture, koa jewelry boxes and collectable bowls, accessories and jewelry. You’ll also find beautiful works of art by all local artists. This store is located on the the second floor of Waikiki Beach Walk(WBW). I stumbled into this store by accident. I’m always walking through WBW as I work in Waikiki, but never really made my way up to the second floor. As I was just browsing on that upper level, I got intrigued to walk into Under the Koa Tree by all the paintings on the wall. As soon as I entered, the guy working there approached me and not only welcomed me, but gave me a quick intro to what this store was all about. He mentioned everything was made by local artists. I’m always about supporting our locals and this store just made me feel proud to be Hawaiian. Everything from the paintings to the fused glass platters to the jewelry made me feel so in awe with the talent these artists have. I must have been browsing through every single artwork for at least a half hour haha. And the great thing about this store is the sales associate didn’t linger around me, pressuring me to buy something. I seriously hate it when workers keep coming up to me while I’m looking around. But he was great as he let me wonder freely but was always there to help answer questions when I was curious about the story behind certain paintings or artists. The prices are pretty reasonable and at least you know when you purchase something, it’s helping to support our locals. It makes you feel better about yourself. Or at least I did when I purchased my very own Rosalie Prussing painting! I can’t wait to hang it on my wall :) I also can’t wait to go back once I get paid so I can purchase more artwork for my home! Shop local. Buy local!

Located on the upper level of the Beach Walk, this place feels like an art gallery that sells other hawaiiana goods. There were notecards for $ 6(not badly priced), mounted prints in various sizes(reasonable, as well), jewelry. The arrangement was nice, not cluttered. The saleslady was not pushy at all, and smiled at you as you entered the store. There were lots of customers in here, but noone ever bumped into you. If you want to get away from the everyday souvenir found in Waikiki(ABC stores), you can find specialty hawaiiana items here in every price range.

This place had a really great selection of hand carved items made from Koa wood. We stopped in here to get a nice gift for Eugy’s parents. Two turtles. Very good work done by the carver. A bit pricy, but totally worth it. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for gift ideas or something for yourself.
