Steven Michael’s

I’ve been going to Steven Michaels on and off since 2002. I’m a picky guy and when I really want to treat myself, this is where I go. I cut my hair myself every now and then, but when I want a break, this is the only place I trust. (and Michael does a far better job than I do :) Both Steven and Michael are highly professional, always pleasure to see, and I enjoy conversing with Michael when he cuts my hair.

The bf and I have been coming here for a few years and are always more than happy with our hair! Even with the most vague description of a hairstyle, Steven always knows exactly what I want! From different hair styles to any color I can think of, he always makes my hair look beautiful!
Customer service is great too! Everyone in the salon are all so friendly and they know where the good restaurants are!

I’ve been having my hair done by Steven and Michael since 1985. There is absolutely NO ONE better at coloring and cutting my hair. I live on the mainland now and have been disappointed over and over again with other salons and actually come to Hawaii to have it done by them because I am always happy. Always! I’m EXTREMELY particular about my color and Steven listens and does exactly what I want. I have very dark brown hair in which I want very blonde, high contrast highlights in. He insists on using tint and not bleach which makes my hair softer and not at all damaged. Other people tell me it’s impossible to bring it up to blonde without using bleach. They are wrong! His foils are perfect. I love him and call him my hair god! Same with Michael. He generally gives a very precise cut and when I tell him I want it a little uneven, he complies and with a smile. They are gentleman and artists. Their prices are very reasonable and they stay well educated on the latest products. You can’t go wrong. These guys are the BEST!

I’ve been going to Steven at Steven Michael’s salon and I am very happy with the results. It took a few times to get my hair just how I wanted it, but Steven listens and adjusts. Plus, Steven is a really nice guy. He knows lots of people and has great recommendations on where to go and who to see. My hair grows super fast, so I need to go to someone regularly without breaking the piggy bank. So, if you want someone really good and well priced, then I highly recommend Steven. FYI, I’m a guy.

Michael is the best! Always polite, he has given me precise haircuts, always followed my requests and my cuts really seem to last. Plus I like the relaxed atmosphere of Steven MIchael’s compared to some of the larger upscale salons.

I was getting a consultation from Michael when he kept dragging his comb across the top of my glasses. The second time he did that, I brought it up to him. He wasn’t embarrassed. He didn’t apologize. He told me I needed to leave. That’s a pretty amazing way to deal with YOUR lack of coordination. He’s obviously done stuff like that before because he immediately turned to other people who happened to be around and started dealing with them as if I wasn’t there. I was left saying, «That was not necessary,» over and over because I couldn’t think of anything else to say. He smoothly ignored me. Practice makes perfect? If you are a hairdresser, it might be good to develop the skills not to drag your comb over someone’s glasses or to apologize if you do, OR you can just kick the person out, I guess.
Before that, he informed me that I had «thin» hair, although it is twice as thick as the average person’s. It is three times as thick as his own hair.
Before that, I had talked to his partner, Steven about coloring my hair with less toxic hair dye I was to bring in. I was already using this dye for four months. He said he would do it but he «wouldn’t be responsible for the results.» Then he said it two more times. Then he said that HIS colors were professional. When I said I liked the color I used because it was ammonia and perfume free, he said that natural hair dye is a myth and there were no ammonia free colors out there. Experienced, professional colorists have a lot of knowledge, but I have found that there are also things that they do not know. The hair color I use HAS been ammonia-​free for decades and there IS natural herbal hair dye/​henna. Steven didn’t know if his own colors were perfume free. That’s not unusual, but it is regrettable, because a certain percentage of the population is allergic to fragrances. This whole thing with hair dressers being unhelpful with fragrance allergies and less-​toxic dyes is common, but it costs them money. I understood that he wasn’t responsible for the results of my dye job if he followed the instructions properly, but I was hoping for someone I would enjoy working with. My hair color looked pretty good and it was sitting right in front of him so it’s hard to see who was being helped by the attitude. Not him.

I go to Jessica because she makes me feel very comfortable. She is very professional in all that she does. Her facials are out of this world.
Michelle, you go girl!!! Michelle is very accommodating and she patiently listens to what you think would be the best hair style for you. When asked, Michelle then says exactly what she thinks would best work for you. She’s awesome!!!

So I have been seeing Jessica since I was 16 years old it’s been over 8 years! She is amazing and does eyebrows better than anyone I’ve ever had. She kind of popped my eyebrow waxing cherry lol.
I live on the mainland and she always makes time to see me even on short notice when I’m
Back in the islands. She’s more like family and she has a great spirit! You won’t regret it I promise!

I’ve been coming to jessica for my eyebrows, Brazilians, and bikini waxes since before she had her own place. She is seriously AMAZING! I walk in there and instantly feel relaxed. Her room is small yet she makes use of her space with all of the comforts a larger spa could give. Even just getting an eyebrow wax I feel like i’m in heaven, sometimes she even puts a warming pad underneath your shoulders to relax you and has calming music in the background. There’s a reason why I’ve been going to her for over 5 years! SHE’S AWESOME!
Brazilians are pricey, she does it super fast though, so you make the choice.
