I have the weird Asian hairline in the back at the nape of the neck. You know… where the hair grows upward instead of downward? Joanne is the only stylist I know who knows how to tame this funky hairline. I’ve been to many many salons. Some stylists don’t know what to do with it so they leave it long. One week after the haircut, my hair would start to flip out in the back. Other stylists do an undercut and shave off the hair completely below the outer layer. I would feel a draft whenever the wind blew and it made me feel bald! I didn’t like that. Joanne works her magic and is able to cut it in a way where I am not bald underneath and my haircut lasts a good 6 weeks! She is such a talented stylist. I always get complements at work and on the street on my haircut. Please give her a try!

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for this place yet!
I come here pretty regularly for haircuts. I’ve had cuts with Joanne and with Naomi, but since Naomi used to cut my hair when I was in high school (back when she still worked at Raiz) I ended up sticking with Naomi. Plus she is sooo friendly and sweet, and so fun to talk to! My mom also gets her haircuts done with Naomi.
Every time I go there, I leave with perfect hair. No joke. It doesn’t matter if I’m there for a cut, trim, color, or what, she is excellent at what she does. She is also great at making sure your hair stays looking good even months after it grows out. She’ll teach you how to properly style your hair so that you can still look salon-​fresh months after your cut, and you can even buy the Japanese products that she uses in your hair directly from her. I love me some Japanese hair products :) They always work really well in my hair, even though I have very fine hair.
And did I mention the free massage that you get? So awesome!
If you’re not sure what to do, there are tons and tons of magazines to flip through for some inspiration.
The only reason why I don’t come here ALL the time is because sometimes they’re booked when I need them (not surprised), and because it gets expensive. Maybe when I’m not a grad student anymore, I can afford to come here on the regular :)

It was my first time at Salon Picasso and I loved it! Hopping around, one salon to the next, every few months because that’s what you do until you find «THE ONE». Then you find «THE ONE» and nothing else measures up.
I’m sporting a short, pixie-​ish cut. But I have somewhat thick hair that air dries slightly wavy and blows out straight — it gives most stylists trouble and as such I was never really satisfied.
Joanne did a great job with my hair, and she analyzed my hair, but also asked me what I like and how I normally wear it. I waited a couple weeks to make sure I really liked the cut. I have never been as satisfied with a haircut as I was after my appointment with Joanne. Definitely a good experience & I will return!

Naomi is exceptional at making you look your best. While I was ruining her concentration by chatting, I asked her,” Has a customer ever asked you out?” (This girl is gorgeous.) She laughed, then paused then said «No!» We were both surprised, hahaa. I told her it’s because she cuts hair so good that no one wants to risk losing her as a stylist in case the relationship doesn’t work out.
THAT is how good she is.

Naomi is the greatest! I have been seeing her since the last salon she worked at, Raiz. When she cuts my hair, it’s like art. I have never seen anyone cut my hair the way she does. She really takes the time in making your haircut perfect. The hair products she uses are from Japan and smell amazing! Every time I walk out of the salon, I feel a boost of confidence knowing my hair is beautiful. I’m not great at styling my hair but with Naomi’s haircut, even with my simple blow dry my hair looks great.

The salon is comfortable and SUPER clean, and parking is free.

I have been seeing JoAnn since I was 17yrs old. I followed her from Diva’s to Pbrown to now. I admit that in the 20 years I’ve seen her there were a couple of times I decided to try other places and stylists. But you know I always ended up back with JoAnn.
She is meticulous with every cut. My needs changed over the years. From the importance to keeping my length. To the importance of making my round face slimmer. To making my post pregnancy fall out look fuller, (which meant I had to give up my length.) I couldn’t believe I would love the short boy cuts when my hair was always past my shoulders. She always listened and tried to cut the way I envisioned while still encorporating her expert eye to know would work best for me.
What’s even better is that no matter what cut I get long or short it always grows out nicely… evenly so her cuts lasts a long time.
She’s worth the drive and definitely the money.

Naomi is the only person I trust with my hair. I followed her after Raiz. She knows exactly how to cut asian hair and always gets the color perfect. Yes, it’s pretty expensive but you get what you pay for. She also gives a massage during the appointment, a pleasantly surprising experience the first time I went to see her. awesome. It’s been about a year since she started off on her own and she’s doing a great job. I love her honest opinions when I have a hairstyle in mind, she really knows what will and won’t work for your hair type. definitely recommend! only complaint is parking can be tight, and the guy there moving cones so you can park isn’t always around when you enter… –_​_​-​;

JoAnn at Salon Picasso has been cutting my hair for 11 years. She is an outstanding stylist. Many people ask me where I get my hair cut because she does such a great job. She also cuts my 16 year old daughter’s hair and she makes it lovely. My daughter is in water sports so her hair needs a good cut and JoAnn makes it look great. Her new salon is not fancy but it is always immaculate. Highest recommendation!

It’s not the most flashiest of salons, nor would you have known they were located there; it’s a hidden gem.
Deo, or Theo, is an amazing colorist that really knows how to capture the color you desire and for a very AFFORDABLE price. Cut, I’d refer to someone else, but if you’re looking for someone who has a color skillset, look him up.

I love JoAnn at Salon Picasso. Both my boyfriend and I are exceedingly picky about who touches our hair, and neither one of us have ever been unhappy with her work. My sweetie is hapa and has hair that curls every which way and is therefore difficult to cut properly. Sure, he can go to A’s Barber and look at plastic chichis whilst they buzz through with a clipper for much cheaper, but whenever he does, his hair goes «out of shape» much more quickly. I have boob-​length fine hair that I usually have cut layered in front, with or without bangs. Seems like a common enough style, but JoAnn is one of the rare few stylists whose cuts hold their shape long after you really should go back and get a trim. Put it this way: I see her, at most, every four or five months. No matter what, when I first sit in her chair, I realize that the layers have held up well and don’t look obviously overgrown. Besides her skill set, her personality is her second most important asset. She is fun and funny, and she really cares that her clients are happy with her services.
The salon itself, while small, is very uncluttered and organized. She has a great view of Kapiolani Boulevard overlooking the Blaisedell and the windows bring in a lot of natural light. This is no cheesey strip mall salon. JoAnn takes pride in her work and how her salon looks.
If it helps explain any about this woman’s caliber: she’s a former Paul Brown stylist. However, her services, while just as skilled, professional, and enjoyable, don’t come with the high price and high-​falutin attitude. She’s a fun person who really looks at your hair and listens to your needs. My girlfriend – whose butt-​length hair hadn’t been touched by scissors in five years – felt nothing but beautiful after a session with JoAnn. I dare say that everytime I’ve seen her, I’ve left feeling gorgeous. And my sweetie’s twinkling eyes confirm that I look exactly the way I feel.
