just moving here roughly 6 months ago and was glad to find this place! everyone is very friendly! Angela has been my stylist now and I’m very happy with her professionalism and her work. she recently touched up an ombré I did way back in May on the mainland, she took me blonder and more beautiful than ever! I definitely recommend this place and her!

I Love ANGELA and I love this salon! Everyone is not only friendly and generally pleasant to be around but also skilled in their craft. I came to salon mei with bright yellow damaged hair, I thought my life was over. Seriously Angela has magic hands. My hair was brittle and damaged horribly! I could barely brush it. After just a couple sessions my hair is now a beautiful blonde and feels like its natural self.

Been going to Cla at Salon Mei for over a year with standing appointments for every month. I can say I’m very happy with the service, quality, and experience. I’ve had problems with other salons on Oahu with scheduling and others honoring appointments but no issues here. Cla has been excellent at not overbooking and willing to work with my busy schedule. I’m big on greetings, introductions, and communication along with quality of work done. They score high in all points.
I’m super happy with the quality of the haricut, the service and friendliness of the staff, and the price is reasonable too. I work in a professional environment so my cuts have to be conservative but she helps make it look more age appropriate and youthful. I’ve recommended Cla at Salon Mei to other friends and they’ve also been very happy with the service and quality of work. I’ll sometimes schedule hair appointments with other friends and we’ll all hang out in the salon together. All in all a truly great experience.

Okay people. This salon is probably the best one I have been too on the island. I recently went to another Salon and wanted Ombré. What I got was my black roots and orange bottom. with no blend. I was horrified! I needed a fix and I needed it fast… so I found Salon Mei on Unilocal and checked out all of the pictures and really liked what I saw. I went in and Latisha was my stylist. She was very sweet and very attentive. I was embarrassed about the way my hair looked but she didnt even flinch. She corrected the color, did Ombré and Balayage, washed and styled. My hair is rid of all that reddish orange. She did a fantastic job! I highly recommend Latisha everybody! Too top it off, she was the last stylist there in the Salon after closing. I am an ex hairdresser and I am very picky on tones and textures. I have to say, this is the first time I felt completely comfortable in the chair and in love with my hair in such a long time! If you are looking for someone who can achieve something AMAZING and a time that you can be in love with your hair ASK FOR MOSES! I’ll give you 6 reasons why.
#1. He wants to understand what look you are trying to acheive. He’ll be honest about the outcome though and tell you what could be better.
#2. He’s efficent. I normally spend 4 hours at the salon. He high/​lowlighted, touched my base and toned in 2 hours. Oh did I mention I have a lot of hair?
#3. The best head massage EVER in the shampoo bowl. I mean, the best!!!
#4. The cut and tone of my hair ended up perfect and even! I was a medium length brassy ombré with dark roots with no volume. What I have now is an amazing, rich medium brown and sandy blonde highlights. Doesn’t even look like I had an ombré! And the cut is just perfect!
#5. He actually finishes your hair and asks you how you want it styled. Most hairdressers do their own thing regardless of what you want. (Sn: Moses, my hair still has volume 5 hours later! Thanks!!)
#6 Everyone else in the salon was super nice. They complimented me and Moses and told him that he did an awesome job. What a great group there. I even noticed the owner kindly helping a fellow hairdresser out.
It was overall such a pleasant experience. I don’t feel like I have to look around any longer. Take my advice and see Moses!

I asked for the side-​swept bangs and very closely trimmed side & back of head Asian men’s cut (popular in Korea). I was pretty hesitant to ask for it initially because my head got majorly messed up by other reputable salons before (one in Manoa and another near downtown). They just don’t know their way around Asian men’s hair styles!
But at Salon Mei, Cla handled it wonderfully and gave a fantastic cut! If you’re an Asian man and looking for a good hair stylist/​cut, I confidently recommend Cla!

I recently moved to Honolulu from San Diego and I was due for a cut and color. Since my move, I had not cut or colored my hair, so I was hoping to touch up my «balayage“style highlights, lighten, and cut a few inches off. When it comes to salons I do major research on Unilocal and after reading the positive reviews, I was hoping I would find my go to salon, but unfortunately I will NOT be coming back.
I pretty much came in to touch up my highlights that had been growing out for a couple months. I specifically asked to raise my highlights, lighten, and tone it down to honey/​caramel color (I hate orange/​brassy tones). My outcome was basically a shade lighter of what I already had and that was it. My highlights were still halfway down my head and there were pieces of colors that look so ashy it could be gray. For almost $ 250 (cut & color) I could have gone to a better place. Also, when styling my hair, my stylist did not apply any type of product — whether for a blow out or even a heat protectant since I got my hair curled right after. Yeah, seriously.
Anyways, I just had a crappy experience here. I paid so much and didn’t get the outcome I wanted. I showed the stylist several pictures and kept telling her what I wanted over and over again. I’m bummed, but whatever, that’s what happens when you leave your old stylist in search of a new one.
I doubt I’ll be coming back. It’s been a few days and my hair is ugly and orangey. Although this place was located nearby, I honestly wouldn’t mind commuting elsewhere on the island for a better salon and even a place that offers the olaplex treatment (so many salons on the mainland have this! it’s seriously the best treatment for colored hair!).

After much research and planning I decided I would chop off 12+ inches of hair, and that Marjory from Salon Mei was the right person to cut and style me.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I made my appointment four days in advance. For context, I’m 37 weeks pregnant, celebrating my birthday, and haven’t had a cut since December, so I was REALLY looking forward to a fresh look.
The day before my appointment I get a **text* from Marjory asking if I could move my appointment to 1 p.m. I honestly couldn’t, so I let her know. I didn’t hear back from her and so I assumed all was well.
The morning of my appointment comes and I happily fight 45 minutes of good old Hawaii traffic to make the appointment. As I get closer I call the salon to ask what they’re located by… This is when I find out from the receptionist that Marjory *erased* my name from her schedule. No heads up.
The receptionist says Marjory isn’t in, calls her, and then says Marjory is going to call me directly.
She doesn’t call. Instead she texts me (attached a screenshot). I call her to clarify, since I still have no idea what’s happening, she ignores the call.
Basically Marjory texts me that *someone* (who knows who?!) told her I called the salon and canceled my appointment (never called the salon until I was on my way).
Needless to say I didn’t end up getting my haircut here. After I spoke to the owner, Marjory did decide to call and try to fix the situation (hence the one star).
I instead booked an appointment with another salon in Honolulu.
So disappointed by the lack of professionalism at this establishment. I’m optimistic that Marjory is talented (part of what’s so frustrating here!)… But that’s only if you get her to actually honor your appointment and respect you and your time.
Perhaps this salon is better with their regulars. If you’re new and hoping to find your new go-​to stylist/​salon, good luck!!!

I was kind of nervous about chopping my long hair to a lob. I haven’t had my hair cut since I moved here and finally, I decided it was time.
I have trust issues because I’ve never walked out of a salon happy until now.
I booked an appointment and they assigned me with Angela. Let me tell you, she did an awesome job. She did it like how I wanted it. She added a little bit of layers, which I totally did not mind because I knew a completely blunt cut would not suit my face; she just knew what to do with my thick, wavy hair. She gave me some tips on how to tame my mane in humid weather (so helpful). Overall, I loved the experience (and my hair: D). I got compliments from friends and family!
Another tip: Bring pictures! Honestly, they help.

Too bad I don’t have a before picture, but today I went into Salon Mei with straight up orange highlights and dry nasty hair!
Latisha fixed my hair and turned the orange highlights into soft cute blonde ones. I love it! Latisha usually gives me an awesome wash and style in the shortest amount of time I’ve ever experienced (I have huge curly hair that usually takes forever). Fast, friendly and the outcome is always great!
