Came here with my family for teppanyaki dinner one night. I got the catch of the day, which was tuna, while everyone else gor steak. The dining room is a nice environment with 4 or 5 chefs cooking at their own stations with tables around them. The chefs here are more reserved than at other places, no throwing things around in the air. Our chef joked a little bit with my aunt, but that was it. I don’t expect my chef to be a comedian, so that didn’t bother me. He could have cooked a little more flashily, though. It is a visual show after all! The tuna was good but not amazing. The steak was cooked very nicely. The meal also came with salad, soup, grilled vegetables and shrimp, rice, and ice cream for dessert. I recommend paying a little extra for the garlic fried rice. We didnt get it, but the others at our table got it and it smelled amazing. I left feeling happy and full, maybe because I wasn’t the one paying the bill :)

It’s been too long since my review. Must update. I love love love Suntory. Yes, I love Suntory because their food is good, but I also love Suntory because my mom loves Suntory! We often go together to eat lunch(ume somen) or grab a seat at the sushi counter to enjoy some good sushi. Make sure you get the ebishinjo if you eat shrimp when you go. Thank me later. I really liked their coffee jelly dessert, but since I cut caffeine from my diet, I no longer can have it. I hope one day they decide to make a decaf version! Ha! In my dreams…

Authentic Japanese food. Shabu-shabu and sukiyaki are my favorite. My Japanese mother, who is a foodie, always asks to go to Suntory when she starts to crave Japanese food… usually on day 2 of her visit here lol. Staff are responsive and nice. Always a pleasure to dine here.

It is a solid choice. Is it amazing? No. Is it bad? No. The service was excellent. Pleasant and when we had a question it was answered thoroughly. Pricing is what you would expect for the area. I would go back, and try more dishes

Utterly my most favorite sushi in the world. Top tier chefs from Japan. Service always #1. I have eaten here 10 times when in HNL and they always remember me and make it special. Keep it up! Also only place in U you can get 12 year old Yamazaki and Habiki.

Was expecting a lot since this was a double celebration. Service was very slow considering it wasn’t that busy. There was only one server in the tepanyaki side. Food wasn’t what I had expected. Our chef put too much salt in the food that you could taste salt grains when you take a bite. The toro sushi wasn’t even fresh. The only good food was the wagyu which should be since it was so expensive.

We were planning to go Durako sushi first, however the service was not great, there are a lots of tables available and we were still told need to wait for 5 mins, and once we are in, and we ask for booth which is available, but the girl said NO. So we went out and right away choose this restaurant right beside Duroka, and turned out we were very lucky, the restaurant was awesome. We chose to sit beside the chef bar and enjoy all the cooking performance. The seafood combo was great. Highly recommend!!!

Honestly the food here was good, but the service was horrible considering how much money we spent on dinner. We order two separate sets and were celebrating a special occasion(our two year anniversary) so we were open to spending a decent amount of money on dinner. We were promptly seated for our reservation, and our waiter asked us for our selection of meal and drink. When asked what wine he would recommend to accompany the meal, there seemed to be a lack of knowledge about the menu and he needed to clarify with his team, he eventually ended up recommending a white wine to compliment the beginning of our meal and red later. The Teppanyaki style was delicious, and our chef was extremely professional and courteous. We received pieces of our meal course by course, but noticed that a Japanese couple next to us received a few additional pieces of the meal prior to us receiving them. When clarifying whether we had an additional appetizer, our waiter apologized and said he was late in giving us our salad and asked us if we still wanted it(mind you this is 4 courses into our meal). By this time I started to feel uncomfortable about the experience, we had only been asked once if we were doing ok, hadn’t been asked if we wanted to order more drinks, and were brushed off by most of the staff. The Japanese couple next to us received their desserts and had left long before we did… And we arrived there before they had. Not sure if there was perhaps some discrimination as businessmen and tourists were given more attention than myself and my boyfriend, two locals. Not sure if we would come back. The food was good, but the service wasn’t worth the hefty price tag.

We came here on a Saturday night, and although we were the first ones there at 5:30pm, the seats filled up quick so make a reservation. You also should specify if you’d like to sit in the regular restaurant tables, teppanyaki seats, or the sushi bar. This was the first time coming here and it was better than I expected! The food quality was great and you get what you pay for! Just make sure that you reserve some time for your dinner if you get any of the coursed menus. 2 people in our party ordered the sushi course and it took us about 2 hours. Keep in mind also that they serve the items in the order that is listed on the menu, which was kind of strange to us because they served the miso soup and salad after most of the meal. Nevertheless, good fish quality and a good variety of items, very satisfied. The other 2 people in our party ordered the way steak gozen which I thought was tasty! I also liked that it came on a plate with a flame as a warmer to keep out steaks hot. The only thing I didn’t care for about this place was the service. For the amount that we spent, the service was subpar. Our bus boy was nicer than our waitress. I would definitely come back here again to celebrate a special occasion!

Another one of my favorite Japanese restaurants known for their traditional cuisine, sushi, teppanyaki and Suntory whisky, they are located in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. The great service and friendliness of the staff are just one of the many reasons why I come back besides their great selection of food items in the menu. They are open for lunch and dinner.

I usually go just for lunch. The prices are understandable since it is Waikiki after all. The portions are very good, every time I went I left very full and the same goes for everyone else I went with. I usually go during the lunch time just because it can get pretty pricy for the dinner menu. I’d recommend this place, I took my family out and it was mainly for the nice atmosphere and the experience of being in a restaurant like Suntory.

Doraku across the way had an hour wait so since I was hellla hungry we came here instead. Funny how the pricier the restaurant the less the patrons here in this center. Except Wolfgang’s of course because who doesn’t like steak. Very fancy menu. Very nicely decorated as well. The food is not too pricey individually but given the«artsy» portions you’re not gonna be satisfied with just one thing. Damn these restaurants and all their delicious offerings. You can buy a full course meal for no less than $ 52 and no more than $ 100. Maybe in the next lifetime I’ll strike it rich. We ordered the following: broiled eel, seaweed salad with yam and quail egg, crab tempura, and avocado salad. I don’t remember names good and I’m too busy writing this to look at a menu. The tempura was great, and the eel was delicious, but the quail egg salad mostly made me lose my appetite on the spot. Would not recommend. All in all I wouldn’t come back. Bonus: heated toilet seats with those spray things that clean your butt. Personally I don’t like feeling like a fat person just sat on my seat but whatever floats your boat m’goat. Edit: taking off a star because the food really was completely overpriced.

This review is for the teppanyaki side of Restaurant Suntory. Parking: Easy. Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. If you park on the 3rd floor, it’s an easy walk to the restaurant(no waiting for elevators required). Location: It’s not difficult to find the restaurant. It’s across from another Japanese restaurant(Doraku), which is questionable placement if you ask me. Service: The whole staff was nice, professional and prompt. We had the first reservation of the night, so we had to wait a bit. The waiters were quick to refill our drinks, and took our orders accurately. I had read in previous reviews that the chefs don’t put on a Benihana/Tanaka of Tokyo-type show, and that’s true, but our chef interacted with us and cracked a few jokes too. Maybe it’s silly, but it bothers me when teppanyaki chefs at other places chop up the food so violently that bits go flying and are wasted. The piggy inside of me is like, «I could’ve eaten those grains of rice!» So it was a relief that our chef was tidy and managed the grill space well. Food: The menu has a lot of different options depending on how deep you’re willing to go with your food experience. They have, like, 7 courses options for ~$ 170 or you can go low(ish) and order the typical set meal with salad, miso soup, rice, pickled vegetables and grilled vegetables and your choice of protein. The food was cooked purrrrrfectly(yes, the food deserves a cat-like noise)…it was. like, eye-rollingly good. The shrimp were huge, like, they must have had to go way out to sea to find such big shrimp. The filet mignon was tender, juicy and full of flavor. And you have to go with the rice upgrade and get garlic fried rice. It’s not a super strong garlic flavor, but it beats regular rice any day. Value: I guess RS is on the higher end when it comes to price, but I think it’s worth it for the quality they offer. More often than not I’ve left Tanaka of Tokyo feeling hungry, but I left RS satisfied. I recommend trying Restaurant Suntory teppanyaki. You might not get a fabulous show with flying shrimp tails or the classic onion volcano, but you’ll get quality food cooked to perfection, and you’ll probably leave with a full tummy.

I would say 3.5 stars for this place. The wait staff was excellent. Our waiter always took plates away, refilled our waters without us having to ask, and was very knowledgeable. I wish I had gotten his name. My bf and I got the teppanyaki, which is where the chefs cook for you on a grill in front of you. The food I would rate 4 stars. We had the teppanyaki wagyu set($ 162) and split it between two people. It came with Japanese pickled daikon?, tiger shrimp, grilled veggies, an abalone, half a lobster, garlic fried rice, miso soup, and a 4 oz wagyu steak. Everything was pretty good, but most of it was cooked very simply, just grilled or sautéed on the grill. They have a set exactly like this, but with angus or sirloin steak for $ 125. I would recommend this option more. The wagyu just wasn’t worth it for me for an extra 40 dollars. The reason I have this at 3 stars is because of the price. Our bill came out to $ 200 for two people, and we had even split the set. If we each got our own set, it would’ve been a crazy amount. We were pretty much paying to see the chef cook for us, but everything was so simply cooked that it wasn’t much of a show. I would say this place is good for trying out once just to experience it. I wouldn’t rush to come back here, not with so many hole in the walls in Waikiki.
