Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort

If I could leave zero stars I would — I understand the that this location is apparently the known hot spot for the visiting young teens using fake forms of identification, however I do not appreciate the form of service I received tonight. Waiting for a table at Duke’s, I ordered a drink from the bar — after ordering a drink, the bartender returned to me asking for another form of identification. I wasn’t bothered by that, I showed him my expired ID, which has the same consistent information with my current ID, the bartender returned telling me he could not match my photo due to how much makeup I was wearing. Is that appropriate? i pulled out my credit cards long and old college IDs with the same name as all identification presented. After showing that many forms of identification, I would never assume to receive such terrible service due to the fact the bartender «could not ask me to take my makeup off». I understand taking precaution to prevent under age drinking and liability, but that was too far for me and absolutely unnecessary. I will not return here.

More like a Vegas hotel experience than a beach resort hotel. Room toiletries not good. Impersonal, crowded and loud with many other folks who do not stay at the property. Would suggest to spend less money for a hotel off the beach since the value would be better. They have a «connection fee» daily of $ 30 which I suppose is a resort fee that includes wifi. Overnight parking is $ 35 on top of that. Do yourself a favor and walk a few blocks to the same beach and instead save money on shopping and food.

Having been here, I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Waikiki. It’s not just the fact that this is a first class hotel, with exceptionally high levels of service. I’ve stayed in many high end spots, but what really stands out is the warmth and friendliness of the staff. You can immediately tell that this is a family run organization. All the amenities you would find at a larger hotel chain, but with a very personal touch that makes this place stand out. And, contrary to what was said in another review, I and my friend slept like babies in their extremely comfortable beds. I would recommend checking in on any day but Sunday, as the lobby was absolutely crazy that day. Also have the poke tacos and the Mai-​Tais at the Hula Grill — outstanding!

The Kamehameha Cup Boys Volleyball Tournament was last week … Edison High School of Huntington Beach California booked the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort during their stay on the island … The current head coach played for me so it was a great mini-​reunion … The valet staff did a great job taking care of my car and all the lobby vendors, particularly the store that had all the Pan American World Airways memorabilia, were incredibly gracious … and Duke’s Waikiki did a great job keeping us fed and hydrated … but that is another review entirely …

We stayed here January 2016, partial ocean view. We really appreciated the desk in our room. Work interrupts vacations sometimes :(Although the rates and onsite restaurants are a bit pricey, the location is fantastic. The hotel is decorated in Hawaiian décor, maybe a little bit outdated, but it’s clean! The elevators… grrrrrr, appreciated the added security but the main key scanner not working for days on end was very annoying. All the staff are helpful and polite. We will stay here again.

Good location if you are looking for crowded Waikiki. Rooms are a bit dated but on the large side. If you are on a north side room expect to hear a ton of AC noise from the hotel next door. For some reason they have THE STUPIDEST ELEVATOR SYSTEM KNOWN TO MANKIND. Please for the love of all things holy, fix the damn elevators.

This is one of the nicer Outrigger hotels. It’s on the oceanfront and houses two very good open air restaurants (Duke’s and Hula Grill). Blue Note just opened up here a few months ago. If you’ve never heard of Blue Note, it’s a beautiful jazz club. They have locations in New York, Milan, Beijing, Tokyo, Nagoya, and now Hawaii.
Na Hoku, Swatch, Coach, and Seattle’s Best Coffee are some of the stores located at this site. They also have a laundry facility on the premises. It’s along the pathway leading to the pool area. I used to cut through here all the time to get to the beach. Now, they put up a gate. You need a key to re-​enter the hotel.
I haven’t been up to the rooms in a long time. The last time I was in a room was for a hotel party. I really can’t tell you what condition the rooms are in now.
This hotel only has valet parking. If you want to self park, they’ll send you to their sister hotel, Outrigger Ohana East. The entrance is on Kuhio Avenue, which is a block away.

Selfishly, I was hesitant to write this review because I’m scared everyone will want to stay here and then it’ll be crowded when I come back. We went here for our honeymoon, got a partial ocean view on the 15^th floor and got a great rate through Costco Travel.
Please read my rating through this lens — my husband and I are the type of travelers that prefer a slightly-​better-​than-​middle-​of-​the-​road, comfortable and clean room at a reasonable price in a convenient location as opposed to spending tons of money on a super high end hotel. We’d rather save the money to spend on food, drinks, and experiences during our trip. Is this as luxurious as say the two hotels right next door? Absolutely not. But is it an amazing value, in the perfect location in the thick of everything Waikiki Beach, with beach access, a pool, balconies in every room, a spa, and Duke’s in the building? Yes!
Walking distance to everything. It was across the street from an ABC store which we went to almost daily. Staff was great (shout out to Wendy in housekeeping!) Being on the beach was amazing. We would wake up every morning, grab breakfast, and then head straight to the beach for hours. Towel service is under the umbrella at the pool and you can order drinks & food from servers walking around the pool deck.
Only bummer is the hot tub is located by the Duke’s stage so it shuts down when Duke’s opens the additional patio in the late afternoon. And one other bit of constructive criticism would be to pump in some nice scents because for some odd reason the hallways have a weird smell, but not enough to deter me from coming back.

very good hotel at an excellent location!
came with mama on our anniversary. very easy check in and didn’t have to wait too long for a room around noon. it was just enough time to get a round at Duke’s.
room was partial ocean king. view was good and room was clean with outstanding amenities. bed was comfy and sheets were soft and warm. there was a little coffee maker in the room as well as a mini fridge.
the location can not and will not be beat! primarily because of Duke’s. obviously, we’re partial to Duke’s since we got married at the one on the other side of the pacific. everything you need for waikiki beach is at your fingertips here. hula grill has a great HH. beach chair rental was $ 27 for 2hours, which was all we could take of being under the sun for a given period. pool is a little small, but, very well adorned. pretty sandy at the bottom too cause of the proximity to the beach.
overall, an amazing stay and we got a great rate by booking about 7months in advance. which was still kinda pricey, but, worth it. if we decide to drop this much change again, we’d definitely stay here.

This place is pretty awesome! I love everything about it except a few things. 1, the hall way sorta smeller and 2, you had to pay to lay on the hotels beaux chairs! Other whys this place is awesome!

I’ve stayed at many hotels on Oahu, but this is by far the worst!
$ 35 for valet is just ridiculous. There’s an adult ad when you press the menu button telling you that you can rent certain movies and not have it show up on your receipt. Not very family friendly and pretty sleazy if you ask me! Also, the TV guide was laggy and 1 hour out of sync with what should actually be playing. The elevators are a pain and pretty damn annoying to get on since we were only given one key. The loud people at Duke’s paired with the uncomfortably huge pillows and hard bed is what irritated me the most. Since this hotel really doesn’t have much to offer, it should at least provide a decent night’s sleep! If you want a nice vacation in Oahu, I’d suggest going somewhere other than here.
2 stars for the Whirlpool tub though!

The hotel is nice. The location is great, with an awesome beach and a lot of fun things to do all around you. It is a bit noisy. Duke’s appears to be the place to hang out every night, so it was pretty noisy late at night, and then they begin to move patio furniture around again at 5am, dragging it across the patios and making a bit of a racket.
The room was great, no complaints there. Comfortable bed, roomy enough, nice desk, tv, etc. Bathroom was nice and very clean. The slider doors open to a quite large opening which we never closed, even with the noise from below (we were on the 7^th floor). It made for a nice ambiance when the night club settled down and until the staff begin their early morning setup.
The elevators leave a bit to be desired in how they operate. They don’t seem very efficient. You pick your floor outside the elevator and it tells you which one to go to. If there’s a lot of people waiting to use them, it sends you all to the same one and it gets too full, so you have to repeat the process, and it when it sends you to the same elevator, you know you’re going to be waiting a while. This gives their pushy condo/​timeshare sales whores more time to harass you about wasting 3 hours of your precious time in paradise sitting in on their sales pitch.
The timeshare sales people are super pushy, aggressive, and overall harassing of the hotel guests. We found it not an enjoyable experience to even sit and wait for someone in the lobby. You’re better off outside on the sidewalk waiting. We rented a car and were harassed about getting that car for free by sitting through a timeshare presentation for more time than it took to rent the car. Even the gal booking the rental car seemed uncomfortable with how pushy they were. This may be the reason I don’t go back to this hotel. We ended up scurrying off the elevator every time and going out around the back way past the shops rather than risk another barrage of timeshare sales pitches. It was really bad and the black eye of our trip.

so awesome! I loved our stay! However, the resort fee of $ 30 daily for wifi and water bottles was annoying. We did not use the wifi (VACATION!!!) and water bottles are like 25cents each, I just feel that the resort fee should be included in the price of the room and if you want wifi you can add it.

The noise of the kitchen staff and coolers made it difficult to sleep at night. Other than that the hotel was great.

We loved this hotel. Great staff, beautiful location, terrific restaurants and atmosphere. Why the three stars, it was the BED. We actually had been staying in the Rainbow Tower at Hilton Hawaiian Village, but I had neglected to book Sat night at the gov rate, so we decided to change hotels and get closer to middle of waikiki. Coming from the Hilton’s oh so wonderful beds to one that is hard and uncomfortable was a bit of a disappointment. Please hotel, upgrade these beds! I travel to Hawaii every year with a team of 6 – 8, and we would stay no where else if only we could get a good nights sleep. Mahalo!

Just got back from a 2 night stay at Outrigger Waikiki and it continues to be my no-​brainer hotel when in the area. I stayed there for 5 nights 3 years ago for my first time to Hawaii and I remember then thinking I had somehow accidentally made the right choice. This time around I knew what I was getting into, but it still delighted me just the same… and actually a little more. The location is pretty great. Right on the beach, in front of some pretty fun activities (the Na Hoku catamaran cruise!), a pretty solid ABC store across the street on the city side of the hotel (trust me you’ll end up needing SOMETHING from there at some point). Dukes and the Hula Grill and few, but solid stores in the lower lobby, and the new Blue Note venue (we saw Roy Hargrove) had us staying at or near the hotel pretty much the whole trip (except to grab some real misubi!). Prices are a little high, but not nearly as outrageous as you’d expect for a Hawaiian resort.
Some things I appreciate about this hotel:
1) Not once did we have a knock on the door from housekeeping, but somehow magically our room was always clean when we got back. A big pet peeve of mine is housekeeping knocking on your door at 9am when you’re on vacation!
2) We had a bag of amazing and high quality sweet treats waiting for us on our second day as a way to show their appreciation for our stay with them. Very well done, Outrigger!
3) Some complain about the «old» décor of the rooms, but I find it rather charming. It’s old Hawaiian plantation style and for me, it actually makes me feel like I’m in Hawaii rather than being in a business hotel that looks the same in every city. I don’t want a McHotel when I travel somewhere tropical! The place is absolutely clean and our partial ocean view room did not disappoint one bit!
4) The rooms are spacious and there is a refrigerator! I’m appalled at how many hotel rooms don’t have a fridge!
I doubt I’ll ever stay anywhere else when I go to Waikiki as long as I can afford it.
Why the 4 stars and not 5? Well, the resort fees and the parking fees are a bit exorbitant and it would be nice to have a better lobby to just «hang out in» when you’re not really ready to go up to the room, but still want a time out from it all. If this place had a lobby with a bar and a chill-​out space (apart from the Dukes scene), it would be over the top for me.

Great, Great stay at the Outrigger! Loved Tony, and Tonya in Dukes Canoe Bar! The room was great with a view. everything was Amazing.

I loved my stay here. I got a nice price through
and they then gave us an upgrade at the hotel. Our room was on the top floor facing the ocean. It was incredible.
The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful and everything worked like clockwork.
I would absolutely stay here again. I was, in fact, very sad to leave.

The good: The room was very nice. Spa tub and shower stall. Nice scenic overlook of the beach. Quick access to stores and main strip. Beach activities available for rental (surfing and SUP) Dukes and Hula Grill are right in the hotel.
The bad: beach gets crowded. The lobby might as well be a mall with the amount of stores in it. The excursion sales people are kind of aggressive and push their timeshare meetings.
The ugly: the pool. For a fairly expensive hotel the pool is nothing short of what you would see in a seedy motel. The hot tub is the same. Small and crowded by anyone and everyone who go to the beach or Dukes. Impossible to walk around with the amount of people cutting through the hotel to get to the beach or Dukes. It’s pretty ridiculous and doesn’t feel like you get any perks to being a hotel guest.
Nicer hotels down the strip that are equal or a little more money that will offer you more privacy and luxury.

This hotel was awesome. The only negative thing is not having self parking. You have to Valet it for $ 35 a day. But it gave you all day in and out privilege. Now the room… The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was also roomy. The balcony was big enough to sit out there an enjoy the sun. You can definitely see and feel the difference compared to other lower cost hotels. We stayed at Aston hotel our last day and it was horrible. I guess you get what you pay for. But Outrigger was awesome… would definitely stay there again. The valet staff are friendly and you get your car in 2 seconds. they are that quick. The hotel is also near all the big shops if you like to shop and also the major restaurants. Dukes restaurant is in the hotel and it has great food with agreat view. Thks Outrigger for making my stay a pleasant one.

Nice hotel close to everything in waikiki. Stayed here a few times and will return. Bit pricey and the view is much better on the moana surfrider side of the building.

Stayed on the 12^th floor Deluxe ocean view room– see picture. This was my second stay at this hotel, it is very central to everything Waikiki has to offer
The room was cleaned everyday by a lovely lady named Paz who has worked there for nearly 40 years
The drain in the bath was blocked and the maintenance guy fixed it on the first day
I booked some tours through the concierge desk — I found the girl there a little bit pushy and hard sell technique came across
All up the meals were good in all restaurants
I could not understand why you can’t buy a full strength Budweiser beer at Dukes only Bud light but you can buy a Corona???
I would stay here again.

This summer we vacationed in Hawaii and stayed here. It was lovely! Rooms are big and we payed extra to have an amazing view from the balcony and it was well worth it.
The staff is extremely friendly, but then again most people we encountered here were.
The pool was great, but with the beach right in front, I didn’t get much use out of it.

Everyone is super nice at this hotel, dukes downstairs has a great breakfast buffet as well as 4 $ mimosas from 7 – 11 am and we love that its beachfront… the only issue is its small rooms, tiny half size shower with a small tub made for a toddler and also SUPER OUTDATED DECOR.
Dear outrigger Waikiki beach, please update your hotel. Also, your elevator sucks.

GLad to back here again! This place is amazingly picturesque. The valet and front desk are very friendly and welcoming. Getting ready to jump in the water! More to come… The smart elevators take a little getting used to. They tell you which elevator to get on. This saves time and keeps people smiling.
The lobby and rooms have been renovated — you can smell the fresh paint! The live music that you can hear coming from Dukes and Hula Grill keep you in an relaxed mood and help get you into vacation mode.

If not for the ideal Waikiki beachfront location, this place would not rate as many stars.
The good: The view from our lanai was beautiful, as good as it gets really for Waikiki. There’s two decent restaurants (Dukes, Hula Grill). They gave us a rollaway bed for free — nice.
The bad: We upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite which was nice but the bathroom was ridiculously small. For $$$, I expected more. The fitness center is small and curiously low-​ceilinged, don’t try a military press unless you’re shorter than 5’8″. There are several retail stores in the resort as well, unfortunately, they don’t have ability to charge to the room. Finally, the elevators are S L O W.

loved it very much! Such a great location right smack on da beach!!! Doesn’t get much better than that!
Everything is SO convenient and Dukes is a great hang out place for breakfast lunch or dinner or just drinks and pupus… with live entertainment while the sun sets.
Rooms were nice and clean and the bed was oh so comfy I slept like a baby with the lanai door open and the soft sounds of the sea. I loved our ocean view room
and next time will request the full ocean view room as I know it will be worth it!
We enjoy the pool and Jacuzzi too. If you are going to visit Waikiki
this is a must stay!

Looking for a real «Spirit of the Aloha» experience in the Waikiki tourist district? Then you’ll want to stay here. Everyone made us feel like Ohana and yet also a bit of royal treatment.
Geoff, Skip, Jiro, Dante, Billy the kid, the hostesses of Duke’s, the omelette station staff, our maid on the 10^th floor (I can’t recall her name) and everyone else. When we checked in, we were given a bottle of champagne which was a really nice gesture. Upon checking out, all we got were those beautiful aloha smiles from everyone. I promised the front desk clerk that I would be back and probably run for mayor of Honolulu. She said she’ll expect me to do so and would vote for me. LoL!
The location was perfect, situated between the Moana Surfrider and the Royal Hawaiian. Easy, short walks to popular Waikiki destinations. No resort fees, free wi-​fi, our room was nice and clean, the elevators are secured, a fully functional jacuzzi in our room and wonderful views. Every night at bedtime, we would turn off our A/​C and slide open our lanai doors to let the soothing sounds of the ocean and to also breathe in that fresh air. The deluxe oceanfront room was definitely deluxe. Small bathroom space means more living and sleeping space. The military have the Hale Koa near the lagoon with very reasonable prices. But, I don’t think I would feel the love from them that I got from Outrigger staff.
If you act civil and not feel that they are obliged to treat you well, regardless, then you are in for a rude awakening. Follow the simple rules of common sense and life, in general, such as respect and be respected, then you will have a grand time. Try bringing in drinks to another establishment and you’ll be frowned upon, too. Reserve a room for one person only to have another person stay in the room with you, security and management will definitely have issues with that. Common sense, folks.

My husband and I brought my 75 year old Mother-​in-​Law here to celebrate her birthday. Being that she is wheelchair bound, we requested an ADA room and was given just that! We found this hotel to be very accommodating to all of her needs. As a result, my mother-​in-​law had an amazing time!
Location of the hotel is 5 Stars! Any and everything that you could possibly need is literally footsteps away.
Rooms were clean and spacious.
Hotel staff was courteous and friendly.
We enjoyed our daily lunches at Dukes. Sitting out on their patio taking in the beautiful scenery was something we all looked forward to each day.
My husband also enjoyed his daily swim at the beach right in front of the hotel. In the past, he complained about how rocky some of the beach water was in front of previous hotels that we stayed at in Waikiki, but not this time! He said, this has been his best beach experience yet in Waikiki as of yet!
Overall, just a relaxing vacation! My family and I can’t wait to return!
So, if you’re looking for a great hotel, Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, is the the place to be!!!
