I’ve been asked by more than a few people if they are still open. The store front– Modern Key Shop is closed but there is still the locksmith and services on the Mobile Key Locksmith only which has an aol email address — but I don’t think it wise to put it on the Unilocal page unless someone tells me that is ok.

The retail location is now closed. I went there yesterday and saw this sign in the doorway. «Closed December 15^th, mobile locksmith will continue to be available». Had the contact info on the sign. If I can post the pic I took, I’ll attach.

Rushed over after I finished work at 4 to get keys cut for tomorrow by the time they close at 430… but sign in door says CLOSED. So super lame.
Not happy about these random closed days. :(
Heard they’re good making dup keys but didn’t have the chance to see for myself.
I’ll have to update my review. if I ever come back.

I really wish I had looked at the reviews on Unilocal before walking down to get my keys cut. THEY DO NOT CUT CUSTOMER BLANKS INCLUDING TRANSPONDER KEYS. I don’t know when the store opened but transponder keys are very modern. The lady was very nice so the get one additional star.

Wow, all this time I’ve needed keys to be made, I’ve wound up going far and wide around the island to get them done. Sometimes with little success, since some places can’t do certain keys or are closed at a time when I can be there…
Then one day my landlord needed to make copies of my new apartment keys & the mailbox key and told me about this place in Downtown Honolulu. Color me surprised when I found out that they are a few blocks away from my office and can make copies of practically any key, which included my somewhat oddly shaped mailbox key!
If I had only known that this place was nearby to me, I wouldn’t have wasted time and effort going around to different places in town to get them made. Right near my office, does a good variety of keys of shapes and sizes… We’ve got a winner!

UPDATE 7÷2÷13: I’ve been informed that if you want to get your Keyport Slide blades cut, that The Key Guy in Aiea (
) will do them with no hassle. I wish I had known this before sending all my keys off to Las Vegas to have Keyport custom cut the blades themselves!
IMPORTANT WARNING if you are a Keyport Slide owner: Modern Key has a policy of *not* cutting customer-​supplied key blanks! So they will refuse to duplicate your keys to Keyport blades, even if you explain to them that the Keyport blanks are made from geniune, original key blanks from Ilco, etc.
To say that I was annoyed and disappointed by this is an understatement. I’d have gladly paid $ 5-​$ 10 per key in order to have them do it for me, as their location is very convenient, and because my time is very valuable, paying a bit more for their labor (and to offset any revenue loss by the fact that I’m not purchasing the key blank from them) is more than worth it to me.
Make sure you call ahead to any locksmith/​cutter to make sure that they are progressive and «Modern» enough to support the Keyport Slide blanks!

I needed to make copies for my house keys and I went to Home Depot and Lowe’s, but both places did not work for my doors. I went here and got my keys done and when I went home, it worked!!! It was perfect!
This place will get the job done!
I had a far drive to get here but now I know if keys are to be made, it be here.

I always have seen this place when going to check our PO Box. I walked by this one time and notice they had Hello Kitty Keys displayed prominently when looking into the front door.
When you first step in, it feels like you stepped into a time zone. Its really homey feeling which is run by a family. It looks like they do alot of onsite jobs and the retail store front services the downtown /​china town area. I can tell they have been there for at least 10+ years because some of the stuff in there looks that old if not older.
The lady there that cut my hello kitty keys did it quickly and in a timely matter. I had about 4 – 5 keys already cut by them. All Hello Kitty keys. All the keys they cut have worked with no problem.
I have referred alot of people in my office to them because of how close they are to the office, how inexpensive they are, and with not having any issues when the keys are cut.
I will go here to get my keys cut from here on out.

Outstanding! They have the keys the other places don’t!

Super convenient location on Bethel, on the backside of Macy’s. I work in an office and we need a lot of duplicate keys for our millions of cabinets and this shop is great! The shop is usually quiet and it’s old & charming.
1. There’s a little pom named Makana. She is the cutest little dog, very well behaved, doesn’t bark or yap, just looks cute. I asked permission to pet the little ball of cute and little dog totally let me. :333 333 333 333 Adorbs.
2. I’ve gotten maybe 7 or 8 keys cut here and only one didn’t work perfectly. I brought it back and they apologized and said if the second key (cut for free) didn’t work then they’d give me a refund. Second key worked, but it’s possible that the first cut didn’t because my key was kinda funky. Good service.
Cool.

I’ve never had to call them for house calls but I have had several keys made here.
The service there is always great and everyone’s always friendly. I’ve never had a key made from here that didn’t work and have always appreciated the speed with which they work.
Only thing is they close for an hour midday for a lunch break (On their hours sign it says 11:30 — noon) but unless you’re trying to get mid-​morning/​mid-​day errands completed it’s usually not too problematic.

In a veritable sea of possibilities, it is hard to know to whom you should turn when you need help. This company can be trusted; its staff is completely reliable and trustworthy, in addition to being incredibly friendly and helpful.
