The gardens at Makiki District Park is truly a community. For the most part, each of the patrons among the 160 plots(10′ x 10′) are all friendly and so generous with sharing seeds, clippings, fruits, and gardening tips. In order to get a plot, you’ll have to attend the Garden Association’s monthly meeting every second Tuesday of the month at 7pm. While there is a waiting list, chances are good to get one sooner than your place«in line»…many people skip the meetings; so, door prize rules… gotta be present to win; and if you’re not, next on the list gets first pick! The gardens have various rules, all in the interest of the community, i.e. not plants or plot fences higher than 5 ft high. No open water, etc. Otherwise the soil is excellent and rich here… so plant on, and go green!
