Have you ever heard of Jeff Chang’s pottery? Well, if not, you should totally check out the store! It is located at Ward Centre, the first store on the left when you go inside from the parking structure. This truly is a family business with Jeff, Karon and Corey running the store. My mom had me come into the store to buy a gift for a friend’s wedding. I don’t know the whole story of how she knows Jeff but he used to do garage pottery sales at her house. I grew up seeing his pieces in my mom’s kitchen — the utensil holder, pencil holder, mugs. I also have a few pieces of my own now and I have to say, over the years Jeff’s craft has stayed true. He sells what I like to think of as a classic design — a greenish-blue and has all sorts of pieces — mugs, bowls, sauce bowls, plates, etc. In the store there were 4 color themes — Green, Blue, Purple and Black. Today when I walked in I got to see a treat, Jeff himself working at the wheel. I found out he was teaching another woman pottery. It was really cool to just watch them work. What a treat to see art in action! The piece I was trying to find was not in stock at the moment but Karon(Mrs. Chang) was able to make an order for me of the dish my mom wanted. They are also going to ship it to the mainland for her. What was very nice is that I paid for the dish and once the item ships, I’ll be charged for the actual shipping costs. Such a great service they do for their customers! I found out their Pearlridge store was closed and relocated to Windward Mall. I hope to go visit that store sometime but I rarely get to the other side of the island. I guess I have to put it on my «bucket list» of things to see on that side of Oahu!
