One of my friends is in the final days of his life, and was transferred here from Queen’s yesterday. He is in a semi-private room but there is a drywall divider so it is pretty much like a private room. For his hospice stay, Medicare will cover everything except his room and board, but his HMSA Supplementary Plan will cover that so he will not have to pay anything at all. They have a nurse and nurse’s aide here 24/7, and there are only 6 beds, so lack of attention is not an issue. This place is all the way back on 10th Avenue, next to the Palolo Chinese Home, in a converted single-family home. The staff is attentive and friendly, and they go out of their way to offer and provide drinks or snacks to visitors if you want. Because it is important for family and friends to have access to patients, they said they do not have restrictions on visiting hours, so we can visit anytime, as long as we are respectful of other patients. If you needed to place someone in a hospice environment, I would not hesitate to recommend this place.
