Sadly not impressed… The ambiance was nice, and the service was good, but the steaks were not all that great. The waiter didn’t sound very convincing with his recommendations(which by the way we tried). I tried both the filet and NY… If I feel like I need A1 then there’s a major problem! I even thought my potato and veggies were boring. Seems like the waiter probably has never tried his own recommendations before because these are the worse steaks I’ve ever eaten in a «steakhouse». My tastebuds says«mediocre» and my wallet says«robbed». Ambiance — 1 star Service — 1 star Cleanliness — 1 star Food — 0 star Price — 0 star MINUS1 star for high $$$ poorly cooked steaks. #ILoveSteak #DefinitelyNotHysSteak

This was my very first experience with Hy’s after hearing many great things from many people. I decided to take my dad out for an early Father’s day and to celebrate my birthday. We ordered the 11 oz filet mignons medium well. My dad enjoyed his steak but mine was very salty. I ended up eating no more than 3 oz. My waiter offered to refire a new steak for me which I took home. The staff and service was top notch but it may be awhile before I head back to Hy’s again but I will be back to give them another try.

Hubby took me here for my birthday dinner. Very nice place, it’s good to know there is an upscale place like this exists in Waikiki where a lot other places have beachy theme; while this place require men to wear collared shirt and closed toe shoes. I felt like I was taken back to an old era for a second… Very cool inside, kind of like an old library at some rich persons house… lol Had bite size beef Wellington and ahi wonton crisp for appetizer. Both very tasty– definitely recommend to others. Lounge could get busy due to HH from 5 – 6:30… but not so much if you get there around 5 – 5:30. Dinner: hubs and I shared beef Wellington and prime rib dinner. Very tasty, enough said! Will def come back here :)

Well, for the most part, I think you get what you pay for here. The service is awesome and the food is great. Located in Waikiki on Kuhio Ave, they do valet your car so no worries about parking. The interior makes me feel like I’m eating in the middle of a museum exhibit of paintings and little columns and beautiful woodwork. For food, they start you off with garlic cheese bread — the first plate is complimentary, so any additional bread will be charged to you. I then started with the Lobster Bisque and wow! It’s quite creamy and a little rich, but the flavor is amazing. I even dipped some garlic cheese bread in there, and, well, I wasn’t let down. I ordered the Garlic Steak for my entrée, and it is oh-so-yummy! Enoki mushrooms also come atop the steak with the sauce. I ordered it with a loaded baked potato and green bean veggies. I would not suggest this, though, if you are more of a steak purist — the Garlic Steak is saucy so the meatiness is lost on it. We were there to celebrate a friend’s birthday so we also got a complimentary cheesecake. Yummm! If you have nothing in particular to celebrate, I’d suggest still trying the cheesecake. As far as prices go, this is worth a special occasion!

Took my gorgeous girlfriend to Hy’s for our anniversary. This was to be our«fancy» dinner in Waikiki, and we really were looking forward to it. Despite the waiter being extremely attentive and the atmosphere very relaxing, Hy’s steakhouse falls dramatically short of delivering on a true classic steakhouse concept. I paid $ 62 for the driest, most unflavored ribeye I’ve ever ate. Its difficult to mess up a bone in ribeye, the natural flavor usual speaks for itself. It was tough, cooked wrong, and bland. My girlfriends filet was also in the same category as an average backyard pool party type steak. Nice atmosphere, great service, lousy steak… and the steak is all that really matters at a steakhouse charging the prices that Hy’s does. We will not be returning to Hy’s.

Before the mainland steak chains came to Honolulu, where could you go for a fancy carnivore meal? Pearl City Tavern, Michels at the Colony Surf, John Dominis… and Hys Steakhouse. Still in business after all these years. The same comfy, private clubby atmosphere –like visiting an old uncles house who had taste.(omg and Audi Kimura still plays here!) So this is what happened tonight… warmly greeted and immediately shown to our table. A semi circle booth tucked away in a secluded corner. Pleased by the menu-classic favorites, no nouvelle fusion here. Excellent lobster bisque and French onion soup. Who doesn’t love a savory beef dark broth with onions and covered in melty cheese? Baskets of cheesy bread… a nice cold beer. Hits the spot. Ahhhhh classic rack of lamb carved table side, piped mashed potatoes, the fully loaded baked potato with all the trimmings – sour cream, real bacon, butter, chives, Fruits de mer filled with shrimp, crab, scallops and broccoli, onaga cooked in a soy reduction with ginger and cilantro. Delicious and what you’d expect when dining out. So why four stars? That secluded table in the corner? Right next to the door to the kitchen – felt like sitting in the middle of a busy street with a noisy car crash! So we asked to move tables not realizing we’d be leaving the station of the waiter we had and liked – Elliot. We didn’t see Elliot for the rest of the evening until later… chops arrived but were well done not medium. Sad face.(no one had checked on us to ask if our food was ok…) We did see Elliot later when we were about to order dessert and I shared our experience. We actually didn’t know who our server was! Ryan the captain came by and you know what? He seemed genuinely concerned about our experience. He fixed our cherries jubilee and strawberry flambé and tried to improve our dinner. Remember the reaction I got after sharing how vein filled my $ 53 steak was at Alan Wongs? The waiter seemed to feel it was a privilege for us to dine there! In lovely contrast Ryan and Elliot cared! Thank you! Yes I would recommend Hys and I would visit again. Thank you for making it good!

It has been quite some time since my last visit and probably long overdue. I normally don’t like coming to Waikiki because of parking. Hy’s steak House has a valet service which takes the stress off of finding parking. I made reservations two weeks in advance because the times I wanted initially weren’t available. It was a full house on the evening of my visit. This is a place where you should dress up. There is a dress code — collared shirts and covered shoes. Ambiance: Seem dated, but classy. They have three separate dining rooms that are all dimly lit. This sets the mood for a romantic dinner. The wait staffs are professionally outfitted in suit and bow tie. Food: There is no messing around when it comes to me and eating steak. I came here mainly for the steak and ordered the king of all T-bones, the porterhouse T-bone steak. It was a thick 34 ounces of fine cut tender meat cooked medium. My entrée came with vegetables and choice of potato. I was satisfied and probably ate more than I should have. For desert, I ordered their signature cherries jubilee which is prepared in front of your table. The presentation could not have been better and a great way to impress your date. Service: EXCELLENT, extremely polite, attentive, and professional service was provided from the hostesses to the servers. I would definitely return!

This is a great old school, classic steakhouse. They don’t have the velvet rounded booths, but they do have the beautifully carved heavy wood accented décor, the waiters in tuxedos or black and white attire, and old school table side, waiter prepared Caesar salads and flambé desserts. Their range of meats is spectacular, pretty much everything you could want in a cut of beef. They use a special local Kiawe fired(like local mesquite) and broiled steaks for NY Strip(9oz=$ 43, 13oz=$ 53), Delmonico(14oz=$ 47,18oz=$ 57), or Filet Mignon(7oz=$ 44, 11oz=$ 54). This is on display in a special view booth in the rear with the steak chef. And like wise for their Bone-In selections of Bone-In Rib Eye(28oz=$ 75), Bone in New York(20oz=$ 57) T-Bone Steak(28oz=$ 71) or Porterhouse, the King of T-Bones(34oz=$ 89). They also have Prime Rib(10oz=$ 40, 15oz=$ 49). These all come with house vegetables and choice of potato. I would imagine that come NFL Pro Bowl time, this is where all the lineman and linebackers go to beef up. This place is such a throwback, they have some classic steak house menu names you just don’t see being used much anymore, like Steak Oscar, Beef Wellington, Chateaubriand and well, Delmonico. They also have they special Prime Rib Shishkaliks(kebobs), Beef Tenderloin with Black Truffle Sauce, Chicken Marsala, Roast Rack of Lamb, Lamb Chops, half a dozen Seafood slections, another 4 Surf and Turf combos, 15 appetizers to choose from, and 10 side plate accompaniments and 10 specialty salads. I had the Filet Mignon with a side of Poivre Sauce, and my dining partner had the Prime Rib. Both were excellent. They have a decent wine selection, with many offered by the glass. Service was very professional throughout by a team. They do have a strict dress code, shirts must have a collar, no baseball caps or swimwear. Although the place has ostensibly 3 separate dining areas and is decent size, reservations are a must.

Back in the day when I worked in the F&B industry, my coworkers and I frequented Hy’s on our days off to pamper ourselves to a scrumptious meal and impeccable service. Fast forward almost two decades, now our group of friends plan way in advance for special occasions, maybe a few times a year, to enjoy some good grub at Hy’s. Sadly, the last few times were not good experiences. This is a steak house so I’d expect the steaks to be solid. Well, my filet was grossly undercooked, practically raw, and very bland in taste. The demi-glacé in their garlic sauce was too salty and lacked depth. My husband’s rib eye… same story, undercooked and bland. We like medium rare, not blue/seared meat. I wonder if the Kiawe wood fire is for real… I didn’t get any of the smoke that it should. And my friend ordered scallops to share and they were just pale and bland bland bland! I don’t get it, for the prices it should be way more elevated, IMO. It really saddens me to say that Hy’s is not what it once was. After the last few visits, I’m not sure if we will give it another try. And the service is not as friendly as well. The servers can be curt and a bit presumptuous, ugh…

Back at Hy’s for the second time in two months and it was just as delicious and amazing as the last time. We usually bring our own wine… and grind on the delicious cheese bread. My family loves the escargot, Caesar salad and Wellington, while I’m a Delmonico diehard. This particular night, we ordered the sashimi too and it was perfect. Of course I always have to end the night with the chocolate lover’s dessert. My family loves the bananas foster dessert as well. There are tremendous servers there, and we lucked out and got the veterans Ernie and Kirby. Kudos to Bob, Marc, Audy, Chef and the gang for keeping the quality and service up with the demand. Awesome!

I need another excuse to go back to Hy’s because… I. Want. To. Go. Back! The service and of course the food was one word: amazing. Food: We started our meal off with some cheesey bread. It was soft and had the right amount of crisp. It wasn’t gooey cheese so you don’t have to worry about it tailing on you. We then got the oysters Rockefeller and the escargot. For those of you who are not familiar with oyster Rockefellers, they’re baked oysters with spinach and bacon. It’s then topped off with hollandaise sauce. Then the escargots came in a buttery garlicy(parmesan?) sauce and bread. Just describing the as I type makes my mouth water. For my main entrée, I got the Beef Wellington. It came with mash potatoes and green beans. The beef was cooked perfectly to my liking and had just the right amount of seasoning. The green beans were… green beans, nothing special. What was extra SPECIAL was the Chocolate Lovers. If you love chocolate, don’t even consider anything else on the dessert menu. Not only is it made right in front of you, it has such a rich chocolate flavor. It pairs so perfectly with the fresh fruits and vanilla ice-cream. It is a must get. Service: If I remember correctly, our server was Jefferson. He was so eloquent while dropping bits of humor here and there. His service was amazing. Can’t forget about Cameron! So friendly and such a good thing that he recommended us to try the restaurant. Location: Hy’s is located on Kuhio ave. Leave the lowered cars and lifted trucks at home because only valet parking is available and parking is small. Overall, the food and service was AMAZING. I would be a regular but this place is $$$$ for a reason. If you’re looking to take someone out for a very special occasion, this is the place to go.

I’ve been here several times but never reviewed before so let me start… This is one of my favorite steak house around here. I would go either Wolfgang or here but the service is much better as well as it’s more ambience at Hy’s in my opinion. General manager, Bob is always welcoming and nice and waiters are friendly and so attentive. Once you get in you would notice right away its old traditional classy décor. I usually care for either nice ocean view or beautiful city view when I want to go fine dinning but I think it’s the only place I really like without any of views. The best part for me is the desert… I know I mention about desert at steak house! One of my favorite desert on earth is Cherry Jubilee and when I first moved here 10 years ago I had to search for the restaurant for it but found out this is the only restaurant serves Cherry Jubilee.(Message me if you know any in Honolulu please!) Honestly I don’t care for the ice cream they use but the presentation is wonderful! The minimum order of 2 and usually my partner doesn’t have a room for desert but anyway I always get it lol I am not really a meat eater so can not really tell much about steak itself but each visit I’ve had great one and all my company satisfied with the food we ordered. What I usually order as not a big meat eater is Oysters, Table made creaser salad(it’s another outstanding performance), Foir Gras, take a few bite of my partner’s steak and Cherry Jubilee :) These order always make my dinner experience phenomenal at Hy’s!

I feel that this restaurant has just been around for too long. Our servers were less than average at best. Not knowledgeable by any aspect. Our service was also shuffled between several waiters witch can be a little annoying. Two bottles of wine ordered when asking about origin our server had to read it off the bottle. OK for a lower class spot but when a sever is expecting a $ 100+ tip you would think they could have a better game. Kind of shows that they are spoiled and gave the impression that it don’t matter how well I do my job I will make bank anyways off the tourist who don’t know better and it really showed. Atmosphere is classy however there was a soup spoon under my table and I didn’t order soup. A Michelin FAIL. Food we ordered. Dozen raw oysters to start and they were good plump shucked right prop to the pantry cook. I had a $ 75 ribeye which was cooked to my specification. A $ 90 plate of crab legs that were very good six fat legs cut in half. Everything else after that went downhill my guest both returned their steak. Tenderloins ordered MR came out Rare as fuck. Tell tale signs that they cook goes by feel of steak and not by temping it as a tenderloin will often feel medium rare but is still mooing. Now get this even a cheaper restaurant when sending back a steak oh wait two steaks will have the common decency TOFIRE A NEWSTEAK. Nope not this place you’ll get the same steak they fucked up the first time all cut up. Uh FAIL wake up HY’s! We ordered two side dished which half way though our meal and after the steak were sent back i had to ask about when the captain did his walk of shame. Our side dishes where are they we are almost done. Showed the lack of attention by the chef to his guest if there even is a chef on duty. For dessert we had cherries jubelie a classic you can’t screw that up right? Wrong the reduction was watery. I had to stop the server instruct him to reduce the liquor and the sugar till it was more like Carmel sauce and less like sugar water before pouring it. I wasn’t going to let that be debauch. All said and done dinner for four with wine came out to around $ 700 without the tip. Sorry HY’s you have made the transition from steak house to bad hotel food ripping off the people of Hawaii with sub par service and a severe lack of attention to detail.

Took me a while to get to this review, but better late than never. Okay, so I made reservations for Valentine’s Day early in January for the 13th of February. Upon arrival, we were nicely greeted by their staff and they sat us right away! They were even giving roses to the ladies of the night, so sweet! We sat next to where they cook the steaks, which was kind of a cool experience. Our waiter came right away, took our drink orders & came back really quickly! Since this was our first time here, we needed some time to decide what we wanted to order so we decided to just order an appetizer– fresh oysters(hit the spot). We finally decided on a steak & shrimp plate & a steak & crab dinner. We got to watch the gentlemen cook our steak and our food was done in such a timely matter. This is kind of where our dinner went down hill. Once we got our food, it was delicious but our waiter didn’t even come back to check on us at all! We had other people come to fill our waters and I thought maybe he was busy considering it was Valentine’s Day, but I did see him checking on the other table right next to us. Bummer, but after we were done we got a complimentary cheesecake since we were celebrating our anniversary also. Our waiter brings the cheesecake and my boyfriend decided he wanted to get a dessert also. I felt like from the beginning to the end, something in our server changed. Disappointing because he was doing so well. All in all, I can’t give this place less than 4 stars because everyone was friendly, our food and drinks were brought promptly & my car was safe in their valet area. Will we be back? We’ll see.

If you’re looking for a fancy place to take your significant other for any special occasion, then Hy’s knows how to do it right! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday 3 years ago, and everything from the ambiance, to the service, to the food was top notch! On top of the complimentary cheesecake for dessert, they even took a photo of us and at the end of the meal, had it printed in their Hy’s photo frame. It was such a sweet gesture and til this day, I still have the photo. Ever since that day, my boyfriend and I have been wanting to go back. For Christmas, Hy’s was having a promotion on their gift cards. For every $ 50 spent, you receive a $ 10 promotional card(valid from Jan. 16-June 30, 2016; not valid on Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day & Father’s Day). So since Valentine’s Day fell on a Sunday this year, we decided to do an early Valentine’s dinner on the Saturday before. We booked reservation on OpenTable and through OpenTable, they send you both an email confirmation and a reminder email when the date gets closer. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the valet person. He opened both the drivers and passenger’s side door. Soon after, another valet person opened the doors to the restaurant. Talk about service from the get go! Right after we entered the doors, the hostesses greeted us and asked if we had reservations. As we were waiting up front, I noticed they had buckets filled with single roses. I was just thinking, oh that’s nice, they must walk around asking if anyone wants to purchase flowers for their significant other. Nope! As we were getting escorted to our table, the hostess presented me a complimentary rose! This small gesture literally had me glowing and it made me feel special. Service here is amazing. We were greeted by our waiter right away and he was friendly, helpful and attentive. Not only did we get serviced by our waiter, but every single staff in that room made an impact on our meal and experience. Not once did our water cups go empty or not once did we have to hunt down our waiter when we wanted to order more drinks. And the flow between all of our courses were so smooth and perfectly executed. Within a 30 minute span, we received all of our food. We first received our complimentary cheesy breads, our appetizer followed briefly and as soon as we finished that, our entrée was already on it’s way. Cheese Breads: Your first basket is complimentary and it comes with 4 pieces. The bread was hot and soft. And the cheese was… cheesy! lol. It literally melted in my mouth. Chilled Oysters En Half Shell: Came with 6 fresh oysters along with cocktail sauce(it has a bit of kick in it), lemon and by request, Tabasco sauce. I’m not much of an oyster person, but for some reason, not only did I just«try one» but ate another one because for once, I enjoyed it! Lobster Bisque: The tomato sauce was rich and creamy, presentation was pretty, but didn’t have too much lobster in it. I was a bit disappointed, but overall, it was still really yummy. Seafood and Avocado Salad: The presentation was unexpected and very sophisticated. It was creamy and ratio of avocado and seafood was perfect. Filet of Beef Wellington: I’ve only had Beef Wellington here and at a Chef Ramsay restaurant. You can’t top a Chef Ramsay quality Beef Wellington, but the one made here is just as delicious. The pastry was crispy but the bottom was a bit soggy. The temperature of my meat was the way I like it and I really enjoyed the mushrooms duxelles and the cabernet truffle sauce; it really added flavor to the filet and I literally licked my plate! lol We were too full for dessert, but til’ this day, I’m still salivating & day dreaming to eat their Cherries Jubilee and Banana Foster. I guess that just means I need to go back… or just go there during my lunch break and order dessert to go haha.

We always receive excellent service at Hy’s and it’s been somewhat of a go to for my family when celebrating big occasions. I’m a creature of habit and typically order the same thing every time. The spinach salad as a type of appetizer(which they prepare in front of you), the garlic steak with mashed potatoes, and the chocolate lovers for dessert. It never seems to disappoint. I love that they prepare some of the dishes in front of you. The dessert I especially like watching them prepare is the cherries jubilee although I don’t like eating is as much as the chocolate lovers. You’d have to see it to understand, I don’t want to ruin it. The service is always exceptional and what you’d expect at a fine dining restaurant. The lighting is somewhat dim for a bit of a romantic feel. It’s valet only for parking so remember to bring some cash for tip. Also, the sign for Hy’s is pretty easy to miss so don’t just zoom by.

Oh man where do I even begin with this place! When you walk in it’s like you stepped through a time portal and went back a couple hundred years. The inside looks like an historic mansion which my server actually shared that it was! it made for the most romantic scene. All the dark wood and low lighting. I loved every min of it! My honey and I went for Valentine’s Day and it was actually quite busy. Glad we booked our reservation well in advance. We ordered the escargot, crab cakes, table side Cesar salad and we both got the steak Oscar how ever my bf changed his steak to the delmontico and ended our meal with the chocolate lovers flambé. Everything was exceptional. The steak was perfectly cooked and I’m so glad our waiter(wish I remembered his name because he was so awesome!) offered me to get my steak cooked medium minus which is in between med rare and med which was actually EXACTLY how I like it! All in all I can’t say anything negative about this place. All of the staff were very attentive and friendly and the food came out in a timely manner that we were never really«waiting» for our food. I came here around 9pm on a Saturday night with a few of my friends. We had a reservation, but had to wait around half an hour to be seated. Usually I feel bad for going somewhere late, but it seemed as though it were a normal occurrence to be seated around the closing time. I’ve been here a few times in the past with my parents, but never with friends, so it was an interesting experience. We had the bread, foie gras, escargot, about six steaks(one garlic, ribeye, and the other I don’t remember, lobster bisque, caeser salad, and six of the flambes. The bill came out to about ~$ 70 per person, very reasonable. For the most part, Hy’s is a nice place for steak, and the ambience is reminiscent of… for the lack of a better example, Dumbledore’s office(hahaha), but I love it. Very classy, clean, great service as always. Overall memorable experience, as always, and I will be back.

5 stars because this is hands down my fave steak restaurant on Oahu! Always something to look forward to! My go to has got to be the«Filet of Beef Wellington.» But before the entrée we get an order of the Caesar salad that they make table side for you and not to mention their great garlic cheese bread! #nomz. But the beef Wellington here is to die for! The filet mignon is so soft and the pastry is delicious too! I went with my best friend to celebrate her birthday and she tried the Wellington for the first time and really liked it! Likes it enough to want to go again! After the entrée you gotta make room for one of their flambé desserts! My go to is the cherries jubilee which they also make table side! It’s always a great experience at Hys, perfect for any celebration! Just remember to wear shoes! #kiawebroiledsteaks #gains If my best friend likes it, you should too! #sayssilverbutitsgold #myfavorite

I haven’t been back to Hy’s for a good 10 years and I had forgotten how fantastic the food and service is here. We started off with raw oysters and the warm spinach salad. Our server was awesome. He made recommendations that were very helpful. He was really great at preparing our warm spinach salad and made sure every bite had some yummy dressing. For my entrée I had the 7oz filet mignon cooked medium. It was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed every single tender bite. Delicious! I liked that each entrée comes with a veggie and a starch instead of ordering everything ala carte. We ended our meal with two tableside desserts: the cherries jublilee and a new favorite for me, the Chocolate Lovers. They also brought out a complimentary slice of cheesecake and a photo keepsake for the birthday girl. We had such a nice dinner and took our time chatting. The best part was that we never felt rushed. Valet parking only.

Have been hearing of Hy’s for years and finally decided to give it a shot. We made reservations using Round Table. Arrived for our reservations and loved the atmosphere of the place. Lots of dark wood and linen tablecloths. Service was great, very professional. The Cheesy Bread they bring out is pretty good. Wifey went with the Garlic Steak along with Garlic Fried Rice. It was awesome, cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. I went with the evenings special, a Wagyu Tomahawk Ribeye, with Garlic Mash. Unfortunately the steak arrived over cooked by a long shot. I’ve had Wagyu many times and the best way to enjoy it is rare to medium rare, as I ordered it. It arrived well done. The Manager arrived and was a tad condescending and argumentative. After a short discussion he comped desert, but it didn’t make up for ruining a $ 96.00 steak. I didn’t want free desert, I didn’t want a comp anything, I wanted a properly cooked steak. Nope, no offer of that. 3 stars for the service and the Garlic steak. We come to Honolulu ¾ times a year, but doubtful we will return here. For a tourist environment like Waikiki, this is maybe top shelf, but anywhere on the mainland, this is a 3 star joint.

Woo! Everything to the T! It was an amazing experience. It didn’t even felt like we were in Hawaii! Good day to go because it was raining. Everything was exceptional from the greetings to the placement of our dinnerware to the point where I dropped my napkin! They quickly came over and picked it up before I got to it and went to get me a new one. Definitely attention to detail, each and everyone of the staff. Appetizer: Seared Duck Foie Grais with Poached Figs and Brioche — So in love with this app. It’s not much, but definitely rich enough to fill you for the first round of food. You get two pieces of brioche placed with foie gras on each. Savor it. My friend and I don’t drink, so I don’t know if it’ll go well with a wine. Ask the server, super awesomeness! Entrée: Hy’s Famous Roast Rack of Lamb + Hy’s Garlic Steak Lamb — My friend was enjoying it more than he was enjoying my company! Haha, jk. But he did say it was perfectly done. They brought over the whole rack and served it in front of him. Gave him the bones also! Why waste right? Prepared with robust herbs and seared over hot kiawe charcoal! I don’t even know what kiawe charcoal entails! If you’re a lamb person, go for it. I’m not, but I did sneak a tasted. Not too gamey… for me. Steak — I was in love with my dish. Perfect, perfect, perfect. It was the right amount of food, the tenderness of the steak was done at medium rare –nothing more nothing less. It was like almost Wagyu beef, it melted in my mouth! A 7 ounce filet mignon with garlic and herbs. Kiawe(again) broiled then topped with a Hamakua Mushroom sauté. Instead of rice, I got a side of veggies I think. Everything was exceptional. If you’re in Oah’u, you have to give Hy’s a try. (kiawe is a hawaii’s native wood, hehe)

I give 5⁄5 stars sparingly, but this restaurant was truly exquisite. Our server, Stuart, was exceptional — he claimed to make the best table side Caesar salad on the island — and he proved to be absolutely correct. His attention to detail and attentive service, along with his team, was unmatched for our trip. The Châteaubriand is for 2 people. We visited one week ago and tried to order it for 3 but the cut of meat is quite flawless(consistently) and it wouldn’t be worth losing the size or sacrificing quality for more meat. They know what they’re doing with their Nebraskan cattle. The only rival that we could find for a Châteaubriand Michel’s Colony Surf. These are the best two restaurants for fine dining Waikiki. Our only trouble was getting a reservation; book early as they fill up quickly.

The food and service were awesome! The food came out very quickly and the servers were very attentive. Would definitely come here again. We made reservations on Open Table and were able to note that we were there for our anniversary. They served us a complimentary cheesecake that was so cute.

Decided to take my BF here for his birthday, and made reservations on Open Table. I haven’t been here in awhile but its just like I remembered it with a classy, upscale feel. Ambiance– 5 stars, This is one of the few fine dining restaurants left in Honolulu. Its been open for over 35 years so that should say something. Dim lights and waiters in Tuxedo’s and live music from Audi Kimura. We were warmly greeted by the staff and seated at a comfortable booth overlooking the floor. Because its the Christmas season they had a few large parties dining that night but we still enjoyed ourselves. They were so personable and wished him happy birthday as soon as we walked in. Service-5 stars this place has been around for a long time and they staff were very professional and efficient, they refilled glasses, and replaced plates, silverware often, it was just right, where they were not bothering us too often but just enough and always made sure we were satisfied with the food and the selections. Food-5 stars –Blackened Ahi Sashimi $ 22.95 was perfectly cooked and very fresh –Wedge Salad-Good size portion $ 10.95 –Nalo Green Salad-was good $ 8.95 –Sauteed Mushrooms-AWESOME get this it was so good and decently priced at $ 6.50 –Brussell Sprouts with Panchetta-I always order Brussell Sprouts becuase I just love them, this was pretty good. I would have loved it if they sprinkled Parmasean cheese on the top(hint hint) lol –14OZ Delmonico 46.95 $ it was cooked perfectly and was so tasty –Hy’s Garlic Steak 7Oz Filet Mignon with garlic and herbs with a Hamakua mushroom sauté on the top. Also cooked perfectly and was SOGOOD! the garlic was NOT overpowering the cut was fabulous! –Wine-Donum Pinot Noir-$ 100.00 matched perfectly with our food, my BF doesn’t like the Merlot’s or Malbac’s this was a great«in between» red, very good. Dessert-Single Serving Bananas Foster $ 16.95, WOW amazing and just like I remembered it from years ago when I last dined here. The restaurant also gave us a complimentary Cheesecake for his Birthday which was a nice touch as well. This may NOT be the trendy Hip kind of modern restaurant, but its perfect if you are looking for a classy, charming, upscale, old school fine dining place. The steaks are Awesome and they really know how to cook them perfectly! NOT that many restaurants can still do Flambé desserts table side its a nice touch.

Yes I came to Hawaii to eat steak. Hys steak house along with Chucks cellar are two true steak houses in Waikiki. Sorry Shorebirds, I don’t fancy cooking my own steak. COLLARSHIRTSARENOW A MUSTTOGAINENTRY. Who wears collar shirts in Hawaii? Hawaiian shirts are okay. Hys steak house is definitely the higher end of the two steak houses, with a very fancy yet dated ambiance. Waiters are very professional and accommodating. The prime rib is is good along with the Delmonico, which is cooked with Kiawe wood is an excellent choice. With a drink, your tab is going to be about 60 – 70 dollars. FYICHERRYJUBBILEE, this is 20 dollar show to impress your date The million dollar question is why go to Hawai’i for a steak? I’m still asking myself that.

I’m so mixed about our visit. We came on Halloween night to celebrate all the upcoming holidays that my bf unfortunately wouldn’t be around for(deployment). I originally booked Signature Steakhouse for the scenery alone but saw that this place had better service, which I’m a stickler for. We showed up a bit early bc we were afraid we would be stuck in the horrendous Halloween traffic that Waikiki is known to have but they were very accommodating to us and still had a booth ready from what I requested on Open Table. Our server is what kinda threw us off. Greeted us very quickly, and went over the wine list with my other half(I had no plans on drinking) and most of the conversation was his extensive background which we honestly didn’t really care about… at least 15mins of «Wine Talk» it dragged. He was pleasant as well but everything seemed so scattered. The timing of our food was a little off to. I know normally higher end Restaurants aren’t going to have your food out at record timing but after ordering, we got our Sashimi App. 15mins, then our Caesar salad took 30mins to come table side in which he still had to prepare. Entrees took another 30 – 40 mins to come out after our salad. By the time we were waiting for that, we were basically just plain full lol and a bit restless. I had the Filet Mignon. Its something I always get at every Steakhouse. I honestly can’t say I was blown away with the taste. There wasn’t any flavoring that gave me that«Wow» factor. Bf had the Filet Mignon and Lamb, he even said it was«alright». The garlic mash that accompanied the meal was a bit cold and stiff, like it had been sitting on the plate for a while. The veggies were cold and tasted waxy. We ordered Spinach and that came out quite a bit of time after we gotten our steaks. Server kinda just kept walking past us without really checking on us. The bottle of wine my bf ordered, he had to keep refilling himself in which I was a bit disappointed in. I feel like they should have been refilling that for him. The server assistants were great. We actually talked to them more than our server. My Ice Tea was never empty and they didn’t mind taking numerous pics at my request lol. I did appreciate them giving us a free Cheesecake slice and a Complimentary photo of our special occasion. Overall, we did enjoy our evening but more for each others company than the food. In my opinion after paying $ 300 for dinner, I really did expect more as far as service from our actual server and the taste of the food. We noticed quite a number of tables that came after us, order almost the same thing as us, and leave way before us. On a side note as well, the had decorated the entire restaurant with fake spider webs, I thought it was extremely appropriate for Halloween of course, but some of the strings were falling onto the table and over our food –_–

It extremely uncommon for me to give such a low rated review. To be honest if this establishment delivered in any area of: ambiance, service, quality food and beverage or hospitality I would have given it a 2 star or better. From entering the front door there was a cold reception from the host. I did not have a reservation though on a Sunday night at 9:30PM I was sure they had a place for me. The décor was at onetime fashionable though now just looked dingy and unkept. No longer old world charm for the prices being charged for. The snooty air of superiority was felt as soon as the waiter approached my table. As he looked at his watch and not me to say hello with a nice eye roll! Every time he asked me a question he was walking away from the table before I even answered? This interaction continued all night. I’m going to cut to the chase. Overall though the evening he was just a bit rude and seemed put off to be serving me. l ordered a caesar salad, beef wellington, broccoli, sautéed mushrooms, baked potato. The salad was prepared table side(on a old beat up cart) it lacked any flavor, admittedly I asked for no anchovy. The wellington, ordered medium rare, was well done. The puff pastry was soggy, few duxelles and the bordelaise sauce in the ramekin had a thick film over it. The vegetable on the plate were old and dried up. The Potato was a bit dry but it was late. Broccoli steamed ok but the hollandaise sauce had no flavor. The mushrooms were undercooked. The classics cheese bread tasted like wonder bread.(It really made me wonder about the bread) All together a disaster. Most of the food was untouched and I had to ask for it to be cleared. It was obvious I was not pleased. I really wanted to see if they would make a attempt to do the«right thing», find out why I didn’t eat much. Nothing. I interrupted the staff polishing flatware a few feet away for the check. As I read many of the Unilocal reviews most were 4 and 5 stars? Left me very perplexed. Unfortunately I will not spend another $ 125.00 to find out if it was a off night.
