Finally made it here. Nice collection of curiosities. Inquired about some vintage cameras and the shop person Mark was knowledgeable. Definitely coming here to Christmas shop.

I went in today because I had been meaning to go for MONTHS. I knew it was a very specially curated type of place and had full intentions of going on my own, but just so happened to be in the area with my whole family(I have 3 kids: 11, 9, and 6) and couldn’t pass it up. We all loved it. The place is an awesome treasure trove of antique goodies. The person at the front desk(owner?) was very kind and not at all snooty even though I brought in my kids. And trust me they were in full-on exploration mode. Which is why I felt the need to give a review. The place is beautiful, they were playing good music, and they didn’t treat us like we had the plague because we had our munchkins. Not bad, I gotta say. Anyway, I intend to go back and pick up a few lovely things I saw today. Definitely drop in and take a look at all the cool stuff they have if you ever get a chance. :)

If you’re looking to find the perfect way to decorate your home or office, Hound and Quail has curated an entire store full of awesome finds. They restored an old building in Chinatown and it feels as if you’re walking into a Brooklyn apartment when you open the front doors. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Plus, there’s a rad gallery room in the basement! Very hip vibes.

VISITTHISCURATEDSHOP – ITIS A DELIGHTFULSENSORYEXPERIENCEALLAROUND! I have purchased many(too many to count!) super unique art, architectural, furniture, medical collectibles, and oddities from this fantastic one of a kind boutique shop for years since I moved from my artist community in San Fran years ago. I have given many of their unique items as gifts and recipients have been delighted! Walking in the shop after moving from San Fran made me feel at home immediately! The owners curate their collection impeccably and have great eyes. Their prices are very reasonable and they go out of their way to satisfy and please their customers. And, they have a wealth of knowledge relative to their products. I was so happy when they moved to Chinatown, which is an artists/eccentrics delight — their move illustrates their committment to revitalization of our community with quality, artistic, curated pieces of art. The owners have engaging, humorous personalities, and I so enjoy talking with them. There is never an ounce of that snooty attitude that one finds in NYC(e.g. SoHo) or other big cities. They go out of their way to engage in conversation — simply for the joy and delight of conversation, not to sell. They are genuinely interested in other people! Hound and Quail has been featured in many national magazines and is our little gem in Hawaii. Their shop is an escape, stimulates all your senses and particularly your imagination… I am always anxious to stop in to investigate what new treasures are there!

I first started checking out H & Q at their old location and quickly fell in love with not only the rotating collection of hard to find treasures, but the owners, Mark and Travis. Before I even knew them, I remember always being greeted with such sincerity and usually a glass of wine too! These guys quickly became friends just from being so damn friendly. When I decided to remodel my store a couple of years ago, they were totally eager to help me brainstorm different interior concepts and I found some key pieces for my project at H & Q… like the kind of stuff you can’t possibly find anywhere else on the island, or in the state! Needless to say, I was pretty stoked to have them relocate to Chinatown where they are now just down the street, woohoo! They also have expanded their hours and house one of the hippest art galleries in the hood, which they named the Outpost. It’s the spot to check out art shows that push the boundaries and offer something unexpected. H & Q is a must on First Fridays. Mark and Travis truly bring such inspiration and style to the island. Their store is not only well curated with everything from taxidermy to mid-century furniture to small leather goods, it’s a unique cross between curiosities and antiques, with everything else in between. The easiest way to descibe it is «cool sh! t»! And a bonus, their prices are really good and the sales staff is always friendly and full of knowledge about their«finds». I’ve bought taxidermy, mirrors, wall art, gifts, and more here, and I’ve also wandered in to just browse. There are always new goodies in the shop and Mark and Travis totally make the place, I’m so stoked to have these guys in the hood. Love H & Q and highly recommend this spot!

I have visited the store many times, and I am continually impressed with the beautiful space and wonderfully strange goods! It’s like walking into a carefully curated cabinet of wonders, where you might find a taxidermy ostrich next to vintage medical texts on great mid century finds. The owners Mark and Travis have always been very sweet and welcoming. We always end up talking and laughing about random things, and, apart from their keen aesthetic sensibilities, I appreciate their warmth and sense of humor. Looking forward to all their future events like wine tastings, book clubs, and drawing classes. Oh and their basement gallery is dope too!

Hound & Quail is one of the most unique and inspirational stores in state. As a creative it’s a dream come true, a curated space that sparks my curiosities, and indulges my love of vintage and design. There’s an incredible energy of entrepreneurs in Hawaii, and every time I’ve been into this space I’ve been welcomed with great conversation and a wonderful experience. I appreciate both the time that the founders have taken in genuinely talking with me and in the efforts that have clearly been taken to thoughtfully curate and design this unique gem of a store. In regards to the prior review. I feel quite the opposite. I wouldn’t consider myself«hipster» looking, and I felt welcomed. I’m grateful for this space and for those that dream big in creating new experiences and boutiques in Hawai’i!

I’m so over rude HNL salespeople who run the«cool» Chinatown spots. I don’t know whether to attribute their major attitude to an inferiority complex or the arrogance that sometimes comes with being a big fish in a small island pond. But seriously. Who are the rude folks who run this store? They keep being written up and lauded for their innovation and entrepreneurship, but they really need to work on their manners. The first time I visited, I was greeted begrudgingly and scanned(what, was my outfit not good enough?). What’s the vetting process for giving out smiles and saying«hello» to customers? Who makes the cut? Maybe this guy has read BLINK one too many times. Whatever, I get it. I wasn’t really looking to buy a dead bug for $ 60; perhaps the astute salesperson picked up on that. Anyhoo, he could have at least acknowledged me when I left and thanked him. Don’t we all deserve this common courtesy? The second time I popped in was for an art show. Once again, my friends and i were essentially ignored by the salespeople who were too busy chatting up and serving drinks to people who were, I suppose, more hip than us. They didn’t bother directing us to the gallery downstairs even though it was pretty clear we were in need of direction and information. After the chilly reception, we didn’t feel like asking.
