Golden Duck

Food is good but the key is to order exactly what you want. The menu is really more of a guide and this restaurant will let you pretty much switch anything around on the menu. Most places will make you stick to what’s on menu. Prices and portions are good. Minute Chicken w/​cake noodle is but get it boneless and it’s even better

I really liked the sea bass— great sauce. Ray is a great waiter as well, our main man!

This place is one of my favorite restaurants but tonight my waitress completely ignored us didn’t fill our water or check on us at all we felt neglected and we were really disappointed with our service plus the windows are full of fingerprints not really a good luck
So we probably won’t be back for a while due to such bad service and will tell lots of our friends about this

That sizzling pork is delicious my hanai mom loves it! When we went and introduced it to us we finished it like nothing. Try it!

I ordered a full turkey and gravy to go on thanksgiving. It was the worse turkey and gravy I’ve ever had! And mean EVER! I ended up throwing the whole thing out! Worse $ 65 bucks I ever spent
The turkey was so small and skinny! It was laughable! In fact my family was here to visit, and since I live in Waikiki I don’t have an oven or I would’ve cooked a turkey myself.
I picked it up and brought it home, opened it and thought someone had played a cruel joke.
Never, ever, ever, Will I go to golden duck again!

Just went to Golden Duck and was very disappointed. Very poor service and very slow. My daughter had an event to go to so we stopped in to have dinner. My wife went up to a waiter to order as no one came to take our order. 30 minutes later, we were wondering where the food was and later it comes out… packed to go. My wife was upset as she had informed the waiter that we were seated at a table when she had ordered. She exclaimed to the waiter again that we were seated at a table. Well time was short by then and the waiter apparently didn’t feel that it was important to accommodate us, so we left. If I can give a zero star, I will.

Golden Duck has been around for the longest time, and my coworkers and I come here every now and then due to its proximity to our workplace. I really can’t say that the food here is extravagant or horrible, and same thing with the service. The food that they serve here is not authentic chinese food… I consider it to be «local chinese» food. The servers here work efficiently, so you usually get your food in a timely manner even when they are quite busy. Today, I ordered the Golden Duck Plate which includes roast duck, cold ginger chicken, pork chow mein, fried rice, and crispy gau gee. The portions were huge! I could barely walk after devouring it. Taste was mediocre though. There’s not a single item that I would rave about. To sum it up, they serve local chinese food that tastes mediocre for a mediocre price with generous portions.

I tried to like Golden Duck, but each time I’ve ordered, I always end up dumping more than half of the food. I’m going to write this review by listing my patronage here.
1. I had a tiring day and ordered their lunch plate special. I took five or six bites and chucked the rest. The sweet and sour pork tasted like I was chewing on day old roasted pork that I was left to dry out overnight. The little char siu and soybean sprout salad was sad. I had probably 5 pieces of char siu that resembled toothpicks. The rice was also probably day old rice that was forgotten at the bottom of the rice cooker.
2. One night my sister and I were hungry and we ordered cashew chicken. Let’s see, we reviewed a box full of gravy? Tiny little bits of chicken that seemed to have fallen off from a larger piece of chicken, maybe a sprinkling of snow peas and three pieces of cashews. Like why.
3. By request of my person — two orders of crispy gau gee to go. We received this in a paper bag that was drenched in oil. The gau gee in the top of the bag were crispy and the ones on the bottom were soggy. Also, just to mention, just gau gee had a DIME sized amount of meat in it. I would have rather bought a bag of wun tun chips and made a meat dip.
4. My mother once ordered a to go entrée of sweet and sour fish. It’s supposed to be battered and deep fried fish with a slather or sweet and sour sauce. My mom swears she received frozen fish sticks that were heated up and drenched in S&S sauce…
I wonder what happened to the days when Golden Duck won awards and accolades. I really do.

I have relatives that live within walking distance of this place. They like coming here, but I figured they did it out of convenience more than taste. I now know that I was wrong. The menu, like most Chinese restaurants, was overwhelming. The best advice that I can give is to try one of the lunch or dinner specials. You get a little of everything that way. We had a large party so I got to try other dishes as well. The food was pretty good and I would return just based on that alone. Service was friendly but slow. I noticed that people with smaller parties waiting around too. There is nothing fancy about this place and it was easy to spot. Some free parking spaces are available, but not too many. Street parking is abundant. The restaurant, while small was larger enough to hold many people. Even with our large party, we didn’t have to wait for a table. We just had to wait for ordering and for the food.

Good food, large portions, but mediocre customer service. The workers make it seem that they don’t care, the only time I hear them say «thank you» or «you’re welcome» is when you pay.

I used to like this place and would go from time to time for the last 20 years. It was good before, but things have changed. The quality of their food is declining and I’ve heard it in inconsistent because they have one decent chef and one bad one.
The service is probably the worst I’ve ever experienced. I feel like an unwanted relative who’s inconveniencing them by eating there. Not one, «Thank You», or any type of courteous gesture. No smile, nothing. I thought maybe it was a bad day so I went again yesterday. Same results. They brought me a dish I didn’t order and the owner looked at me like it was my fault — he didn’t believe me. After finding out it was for another table, no apology.
If you are in the business of serving customers, showing appreciation, courtesy and respect is Customer Service 101. Maybe they make too much money and have too many customers so they want to lose some? Well they lost me. For their sake, I hope they turn things around.

Food was good once every one in our party was served .With a party of 5 you don’t leave a customer waiting while everyone else eats. Service sucked, the rest of my party was halfway through by the time my meal arrived.

I’ve been here twice. The first time I dined in and the second time I had take out. I’ll address these separately.
Dine in: It was my first time here and I heard a lot of good things about this place. I was with a big group so we ordered a bunch of menu items that came in decent portions. The food came out pretty quickly
Fried Rice: it was better than okay, but not the best fried rice I’ve had.
Salt and Pepper Wings: I loved these! The flavor was great!
Orange Chicken: okay, i’ve had better
Roast Duck: delicious
Beef with Broccoli: it was okay
Shrimp Canton: very delicious!
Salt and Pepper Shrimp: loved it!
Ma Po Tofu: i really liked this
The service wasn’t that great that’s the reason for the 3 stars. The waiter never came to refill water so we had to get up and initiate it. The waiter only came to take order and to drop off food.
Take out: The food took a lot longer. I ordered Beef with broccoli, Shrimp Fu Yong, rice cakes, and fried rice. It was great just the wait was long.
Overall a good place. I’ll eat here again.

I wasn’t impressed with the flavors or quality of the food. It’s not BAD, but nothing spectacular, and parking sucks.

Most of the food here is good and your topical Chinese food. I love the steam buns and the walnut shrimp, yummy. My family comes here for get togethers because the food is good and cheap. The location is also central so everyone can meet in the middle. The staff service is ok. The perking lot only has a few stalls but there is street parking too. All in all it is good Chinese food and a good location.

So the food here is pretty good. Service is quick and the people here are friendly.
We got the roast duck cake noodle, honey walnut shrimp, and green onion and ginger with beef.
The cake noodle was good but we would liked to have more meat on the duck.
The honey walnut shrimp had really good flavor and they were plump. The plate had a lot of walnuts which was nice.
The ginger and green onion with need had a really nice flavor. But I felt they should have put more beef.
Anyway if you want pretty good Chinese food then Golden a Duck will do the trick.

I’ve been coming here for years with my fam bam and I can tell you it’s an A-​OK Chinese restaurant.
LOCATION
Across from Zippy’s Wisteria. Parking is behind the restaurant — you enter on the side street that’s right after Golden Duck. The whole place is jammin’ during lunch every time I go.
FOOD
Cheap, fast, and decent. My favorite dish is the Roast Duck Noodle Soup, which is also their Tuesday special (50 cents off the regular price or something like that). I always like to substitute the noodles for mai fan (thin rice noodles). If I were to rate the Duck Noodle by itself, I would give 4 stars. I love the tasty broth and generous pieces of duck. YUM!
However…there have been two times where I came across a tiny bug/​worm still on the veggies or floating in my soup O_​O My stomach turns, I lose my appetite for a moment, and I take that piece of veggie out with the little bug. It makes me question if they thoroughly wash their vegetables at all, especially since it was more than once that this has happened! And this is why I can’t fully love this place. I’m all for extra protein but bugs in food is so disgusting!!! :(I still come back because my love for their Duck Noodle!
SERVICE
Not bad. The food always comes out super fast, which may explain the not so thoroughly washed veggies?

Golden Duck has been my favorite Chinese restaurant for years. If I am ever hungry for Sam See Mein, Chow Fun, or Wor Won Ton Mein, this is the place I go to. It is down home cooking at a reasonable price. The staff is friendly and service is fast.
While I usually come here to order take-​out noodles, the dine-​in service is fast and yummy. I love the Salt & Pepper Shrimp in shell, Beef with Asparagus, Pot Roast Chicken, Tofu with Black Mushroom, Crispy Gau Gee, Kau Yuk, and Boneless Minute Chicken. The Hot and Sour Soup is extra yummy as well as their Sam See Wor Mai Fun. When I am feeling under the weather, their Jook is just what the doctor ordered.
I also come here to order food for parties and pot lucks. The kitchen will make dishes from ingredients you give them, such as crab, whole fish, and lobster. This is also a great place to have a small party of 10 or less to celebrate an event or just get together.
The only draw back is that the parking is inadequate, so I either come here to dine early or late or practice the tag team take-​out pick-​up where one person double parks while the other person runs in to pick-​up the order. However, I obviously don’t let the parking situation stop me because this is my number one place for Chinese food!

Golden Duck is an old time favorite of many in Honolulu. My mom was craving Chinese food and I suggested Golden Duck. I haven’t been here in 30+ years, and was glad that I went to eat here!

The food came out pretty fast after ordering. The service was «typical» Chinese restaurant service! They only had two servers working the floor, so I had to often hellp myself to what I needed (extra napkins, bowls, chopsticks, serving spoons, etc). No complaints!
