The State of Hawaii and the DNLR dedicated a transformed Fort Ruger Pathway and the Bryan Clay Exercise Park on October 15, 2013. The transformation is meant to beautify and enhance access to the Mauka exterior slopes of Diamond Head State Monument. The pathway runs 1.3 miles starting from the intersection of Diamond Head Road/Monsarrat Drive and Wauke Street to the American Red Cross Building, just before 22nd Avenue. The pathway is wide and relatively free of uneven walking surfaces that one encounters while on the neighboring sidewalks. Locals and visitors have been provided an accessible multi-use path to the entrance of Diamond Head State Monument that blends in with the natural landscape. Phase 2 improvements were just started to extend and complete the pathway to 22nd Avenue. Improvements are scheduled to be completed in March 2015.
