This review is about Egan’s Fit Body Bootcamp in Downtown Honolulu. – I was a bit apprehensive when considering joining a fitness bootcamp. I wasn’t too thrilled at the thought of a trainer barking orders and bullying me into military grade workouts. I’m happy to report that I was totally wrong. The trainers, while supportive, know when to let up and actually encourage people to go at their own pace. They focus on form first, then when that’s achieved, they cheer you on to go faster & stronger. They even provide real world nutritional and healthy lifestyle guidance during class and through email newsletters and Facebook posts. While I haven’t yet had a chance to join a class at any of the other Fit Body locations, one of the main reasons why I joined was because the Downtown location(inside the YWCA on Richards St.) was the most convenient for me. They also offered evening classes, which was another plus. They recently switched up their evening hours(effective 2÷1÷13). So instead of 4 – 4:30, 5 – 5:30 every Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, they offer a 45minute class that starts at 4:45 and ends at 5:30. Now… if I can just find a way to sneak away from work early enough! Otherwise, I really wish they kept the 5pm start(or moved it to a 5:30pm start, so that way I know for sure I can make it). But I think the YWCA has a rule that all classes need to end at 5:30. They also offer early morning classes 5:45 — 6:30a every weekdays as well as a lunchtime work out between 11:30-Noon, Tuesdays-Thursdays. At the moment, there aren’t many people who attend the evening classes, which is also another plus. Trainers will take the time to get to know you, correct your form and you build a good relationship with everyone in the class. Sometimes, if you’re the only one that shows up, you get one-on-one personal training!(This could be a good or bad thing… I haven’t yet decided.) So what sort of workout can you expect? No two workouts are the same! Every trainer switches it up so you never get bored: interval, circuit training, calisthenics, running, strength/resistance, MMA, kickboxing. An excellent workout for people like me who have no rhythm and wouldn’t survive a zumba or step aerobics class. It’s all about«grr!» Trust that at the end of the workout, you’ll be all sweaty and out of breath. You may even be in pain the next day. But it’s the«good pain» where you know you put your all in that 45minute workout and are that much closer to your ideal fit body.
